The screenshots look great, but everything looks really dark in my game. Any help to fix the darkness around objects? EDIT: Turns out it was caused by the MXAO fx, so I've disabled it for now. Might be able to tweak it into something manageable later.
Interesting, could you describe the situation more? Does the MXAO look like the screenshots at all?
I have 3 ideas: What aspect ratio are you playing with, what is the size of your screen? Under the DX11 tab, are all the appropriate boxes checked? Are the Global Preprocesser Definitions what they ought to be? (check the last screenshot for this)
It may just be that you or you computer are not really jiving with the settings that work on my machine and personal taste, in that case you can try tweaking the MXAO, I would advise trying to manipulate the following settings, "AO Gamma", "Ambient Occlusion Amount", and, lastly what sounds most relevant "Sample Radius".
i have tried reinstalling kenshi several time,in some cases each time i turn on,ssao the screen becomes white the outlines of everything is visible thou,as for this moment turning ssao just makes the characters body have a weird glitchy effect
Interesting, what this almost sounds like is a debug view for the shader.
When you say shaderssao are you revering to this mod? (https://www.nexusmods.com/kenshi/mods/215) or the MXAO that is part of the reshade preset itself? If it is the MXAO it may be possible that a debug view was inadvertently kicked on. Take a look at the linked picture below. As for the SSAO mod on the nexus I am afraid I don't know, I have never had any issues with it, nor do I know how to manipulate it.
I crapped together a picture for you, it has all the possible reshade related issues covered. Here is a link: https://www.nexusmods.com/kenshi/images/86 .
My best advice if that does not work is to uninstall reshade entirely and start a clean install. Granted reshade itself has been updated so the installation is a bit different but I imagine that checking all the boxes for effects will be safe. Interestingly enough sometimes it will enable another MXAO setting that I am not fond of by default, the only one you want active is MXAO, not quint_Mxao. Ideally this preset should be installed with reshade 4.6 as opposed to 4.8.2(current as of typing this). If you really want to you can look for a download for reshade 4.6, and follow all the aforementioned steps in the images above.
If none of this works I think it is safe to say that this is caused by the ShaderSSAO mod. Try disabling it or uninstalling. I do not have the knowledge needed to troubleshoot it, sorry. That being said, the reshade works fine without it, so you ought to be alright not using it.
If that does not work I guess the issue may be with your drivers, or your install of Direct X. Unfortunately, this is way above my paygrade metaphorically speaking. The best advice I can offer on that front is to update your drivers, I dunno, sorry :(
At this point I am just brain storming, I know a few other mods use these same 3d effects most notably TSUKI, if all this fails try installing that one, after the update it looks rather similar to my reshade, and, frankly, is most likely far more competently made. Sadly there is not too much I can do about this, it is simply the nature of the depth effects, they also can be seen through loading screens. It helps if you zoom out. From what I understand it is possible to use a UI mask through reshade. I never bothered with it because I am a lazy bastard. IF you are interested, and, perhaps a better man than I, then that is something you can look into. My personal way of dealing with this is far, far simpler, just use the transparent UI (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1681013987), it has the added benefit of being sleek and gorgeous. Not to mention it will not mess make any light on its own (no bright colors), making the game itself shine a bit brighter.
Honestly, this was EXACTLY what I was looking for in a Kenshi reshade. It's beautiful and it really brings out the games textures.
The only problem with it is, I think, unfortunately Kenshi itself. Kenshi just does not seem to like reshades very much, so a lot of systems will run into performance issues, regardless of the game's settings, and I genuinely have no idea if there's anything that can be done to mitigate that.
Outside of that, though, I think this is one of the best reshades out there for Kenshi!
As far as performance goes what works best for me is disabling vsync and telling the game to go full screen. Admittedly you need to press Alt+Enter every time you start your game, but for my system I can play with everything maxed out, though shadows can still drag me below 60fps in cities.
