The Outbreak Stages
Stage 1
In the first stage, there will be a few hordes, both small and large, of zombies attacking everything in sight. Large cities and military outposts should survive relatively easily, but their patrol squads will suffer casualties. Small villages have little chance of survival. Only 4 types of zombies will be present in this phase:
- Zombified Human - The weakest type of zombies, slow and with low stats. Alone, they pose no threat, but where there's one, there are ten more. Quantity is their quality.
- Zombie Runner - This type of zombie is capable of running at moderate speeds. They are the only zombies capable of running in stage 1. They are stronger than Zombified Humans but more fragile. They tend to come in reasonable numbers in the hordes.
- Zombie Striker - Resilient, strong, but slow. They come in small numbers and tend to be the last in the hordes to make contact with prey, after being worn down by the other zombies.
- Zombie Striker Commander - A stronger version of the Zombie Strikers. More powerful and more resilient, they are the ones leading the hordes in phase 1 of the Outbreak.
In the second stage, things start to get complicated. The zombies undergo mutations, gaining improved variants and becoming immune to any type of weather event. In addition to the hordes from stage 1, new hordes of mutant zombies now haunt the population of Kenshi. Bandits, drifters, and other types of humans are less frequently seen wandering than before. Even large cities and military outposts now struggle to stay standing. Occasionally, survivors can be seen wandering alone in search of a safe place to stay.
In this phase, 4 new zombies are introduced:
- Mutation Alpha - A mutation of zombified humans that makes them more agile, more resistant, and stronger than their predecessors, with a long-term healing factor that makes them a threat. Although the weakest element of stage 2, they are comparable in stats to a zombie striker, with the advantage of coming in large numbers.
- Mutation Beta - A mutation of zombie runners that makes them even faster than their predecessors. They are stronger and more resistant but still remain the most fragile of the second stage.
- Mutation Gamma - As a mutation of zombie strikers, they are very resilient and strong, with improved agility, but still slow. In terms of stats, they match up with a Paladin from the Holy Nation.
- Mutation Delta - After various mutation variations, a new mutation unlike the others was created. It is intelligent, uses equipment and weapons of superior quality to the others, possesses a regeneration factor superior to that of the alpha mutation, and has stats and resistance that surpass the gamma mutation. As fast or faster than the beta mutation, the leader of the stage 2 hordes is capable of defeating a high paladin from the Holy Nation.
If there was any hope until now, it ends here. People are becoming scarcer, major cities no longer have the conditions to resist; they are increasing in numbers and strength. It's the end. The Resistance, being one of the last safe havens, reinforces patrols around its base, hoping it won't be in vain. The mutations from stage 2 have evolved to an extreme never before expected. In addition to the hordes from stages 1 and 2, new hordes from stage 3 emerge to crush the remaining hope.
In this phase, another 4 mutations are introduced:
- Mutation Epsilon - The final evolution of the Gamma mutation, it has shed its visual identity to reach the peak of strength and resistance. Such a brute is easily compared to many of the great names in Kenshi. It sacrificed its speed for extreme endurance, absurd strength, and a slight healing factor that, combined with its resilience, makes it an unstoppable exterminator.
- Mutation Zeta - The pinnacle of the Alpha mutation has become a daunting and sleek danger. Increased resistance, increased strength, coupled with an enviable regeneration factor. It's a monster that never comes alone.
- Mutation Eta - Can it get even worse? Yes, the final form of the Beta mutation can be even faster than its predecessor. Few can escape its speed. They are extremely agile, posing a high danger in combat. Additionally, they have a healing factor that helps them stay in combat for longer.
- Mutation Theta - The leader of the stage 3 hordes. The perfected form of the Eta mutation has become a creature that even the greatest warriors tremble in fear of. Combat speed, resilience, strength, speed, healing factor—everything about it is absurd.
The faction created to be the last bastion of humanity, located in a remote zone, preserves the last hopes of humanity. It welcomes refugees and accepts allies willing to cooperate in the survival of all without discrimination. It is possible to ally with the Resistance, and the player can use their base as a refuge that provides food, shelter, security, and some equipment.
The Survivors
Survivors can be occasionally found wandering in almost all areas of Kenshi. They are 100% recruitable and will only ask for a safe place to take refuge.
Player Outpost raids
Constructing anything will be quite challenging. The zombies will frequently attack the player's outpost with hordes of varying sizes, and as the stages progress, the difficulty of raids and their frequency will increase.
Stage Triggers
The progression of the Outbreak is
- Stage 2 Trigger: A weaker version of the Delta mutation presented in the second stage. It is the only zombie in stage 1 that will be seen wearing a *DustCoat*.
- Stage 3 Trigger: A weaker version of the Epsilon mutation. No need to describe it; it is visibly different from the others, making it easy to identify if it appears.
Compatibility
This mod should be compatible with any other mods since it doesn't alter any original game content. If you encounter any incompatibility, please report it to me, and I will try to create a patch to fix it.
