Basically I edited the AI package responsible for Raptors (possibly other animals) eating your crops. Now they will leave you alone to start your lovely farming community. This can probably be considered cheating but I found it unrealistic that raptors that are omnivores will bother with breaking down gates and walls to eat your small crops.
