DESCRIPTION
Becklespinax is known from remains that indicate a large theropod dinosaur. A key characteristic, and the source of its name, is the presence of tall neural spines on its vertebrae. These high spines are the most notable feature of the discovered fossil remains. Due to the complicated history of the fossils, and the relationship to Altispinax, precise descriptions are difficult. However, it is clear that is was a large bodied predatory dinosaur. The long neural spines, are the most prominent feature.
DISCOVERY
The fossil remains of what is now known as Becklespinax were discovered in the Early Cretaceous Wealden strata of East Sussex, England. Specifically, the fossil was discovered by Samuel Husbands Beckles. He sent the discovered bones to th...
