> Quick Overview

The mod adds:
  • Breeding, influenced by social and population stats.
  • A chance for mutation.
  • A whole set of new genes for managing both breeding rate and limits.
  • Ingen Database entries for all the new genes, in case you forget what they do (because the Genetic Engineering GUI can't show this kinda stuff)

Do note that:
  • breeding and mutation can increase your CPU usage, as it happens quite frequently.
  • This is the first version of the mod, and exact breeding and mutation rates, along with what stats can mutate to begin with, is likely going to change over the next few releases.

> Breeding Mechanics

A dinosaur can only breed if:
  • There are at least 2 of its species in the enclosure
  • Its herd/pack isn't already at the maximum breedable amount of animals (by default, this is 80% of their Maximum Social requirements)
  • Its enclosure population isn't already at the maximum breedable amount of animals (by default, this is 80% of their Maximum Population requirements)
  • It has reached sexual maturity. Breeding ages are based  on weight class and diet, and are a percentage of the dinosaur's total life expectation.

The breeding rate of each dinosaur (how often it gives birth to offspring) is affected by:
  • Their current herd/pack size. Dinosaurs will breed the most until they reach 40% of their Maximum Social requirements, then start to slow down and stop entirely at 80%.
  • Its Sociability (how social the dinosaur is). This is a permanent value affected by their Maximum Social requirements (NOT their current herd/pack size).
  • Their "willingness to breed." This is affected by genes.

When a new dinosaur is born:
  • It will spawn at the position of its mother.
  • It will inherit its mother's genome (stats, traits, cosmetics).
  • It will have a small chance to mutate one of the stats it inherited.

Herbivore breeding ages:
  • Light: 5%
  • Medium: 10%
  • Armoured: 15%
  • Giant: 25%

Carnivore breeding ages:
  • Light: 15%
  • Medium: 20%
  • Heavy: 25%
  • Giant: 30%

> Breeding Seasons

Seasons vary in length depending on which version of the mod you use, but they last 15 minutes by default. Dinosaurs will only breed within their breeding season, but are very likely to do so (depending on the other values above).

The game begins at the start of Spring - so if you're 30 minutes into a save file, you will be at the beginning of Autumn (for example).

> Mutation Mechanics

Each time a new dinosaur is born, it has a 1 in 6 chance of mutating. Mutations affect these stats:
  • Attack
  • Defence
  • Lifespan
  • Resilience
  • Cosmetics (skin) (Extremely rare - there is a 1 in 24 chance that a mutation will change cosmetic genes)

Mutations can increase or decrease a dinosaur's stats by:
  • 2% (rarely)
  • 5% (commonly)
  • 10% (extremely rarely)
Of their BASE stats (i.e., the stats that the entire species has without any genes or mutations applied).

When a mutation takes place, it will be far more likely to occur on a stat that has already mutated before:
  • The more modified a stat is, the more chance it has to mutate further.
  • Stats that are modified positively have a higher chance to mutate positively.
  • Stats that are modified negatively have a higher chance to mutate negatively.

This takes into account both stats modified by previous mutations and genome modifications - for example, if you gave a dinosaur +30 Attack and +5 Defence through genes, its children will have a much higher chance to mutate even more Attack, and a lightly higher chance of mutating more Defence. The other stats can also mutate, but they will be less likely to do so.

> New Genes

The mod comes with some genes to help you manage the new breeding mechanics. These are also covered in your IngenDatabase, if you forget what each gene does (because the in-game genetic GUI can't show this kinda stuff).

Breeding Rate Genes:
Affects the rate at which the dinosaur has offspring
(Social and Resilience gaps)

  • Breeding Countermeasures 1.0: Halves the breeding rate of the dinosaur.
  • Breeding Countermeasures 2.0: Quarters the breeding rate of the dinosaur.
  • Breeding Countermeasure X: Stops the dinosaur breeding entirely.
  • Breeding Stimulation 1.0: Doubles the breeding rate of the dinosaur.
  • Breeding Stimulation 2.0: Quadruples the breeding rate of the dinosaur.

Breedable Limit Genes (Social):
Stops dinosaurs breeding once their herd gets too big
(Habitat and Lifespan gaps)

  • Breeding Limit Inhibitor 1.0: Removes all Social and Population limits when breeding.
  • Breedable Social Group Expansion 1.0: Increases the maximum Social percentage at which dinosaurs will breed by 20% (80% -> 100%)
  • Breedable Social Group Limitation 1.0: Decreases the maximum Social percentage at which dinosaurs will breed by 15% (80% -> 65%)
  • Breedable Social Group Limitation 2.0: Decreases the maximum Social percentage at which dinosaurs will breed by 30% (80% -> 50%)
  • Breedable Social Group Limitation 3.0: Decreases the maximum Social percentage at which dinosaurs will breed by 45% (80% -> 35%)
  • Breedable Social Group Limitation 4.0: Decreases the maximum Social percentage at which dinosaurs will breed by 60% (80% -> 20%)

Breedable Limit Genes (Population):
Stops dinosaurs breeding once the population in their enclosure gets too high
(Habitat and Lifespan gaps)

  • Breeding Limit Inhibitor 1.0: Removes all Social and Population limits when breeding.
  • Breedable Population Limitation 1.0: Decreases the maximum enclosure Population percentage at which dinosaurs will breed by 15% (80% -> 65%)
  • Breedable Population Limitation 2.0: Decreases the maximum enclosure Population percentage at which dinosaurs will breed by 30% (80% -> 50%)
  • Breedable Population Limitation 3.0: Decreases the maximum enclosure Population percentage at which dinosaurs will breed by 45% (80% -> 35%)
  • Breedable Population Limitation 3.0: Decreases the maximum enclosure Population percentage at which dinosaurs will breed by 60% (80% -> 20%)

Mutation Genes:
Adjusts the chance each hatchling has to mutate
(Stress and Defence gaps)

  • Mutation Countermeasures 1.0: Lowers chance of mutation by 50%.
  • Mutation Countermeasures 2.0: Lowers chance of mutation by 75%.
  • Mutation Countermeasures X: Entirely removes chances of mutation.
  • Mutation Stimulation 1.0: Increases chances of mutation by 25%.
  • Mutation Stimulation 2.0: Increases chances of mutation by 50%.

Age of Maturity Genes:
Adjusts the minimum age before a dinosaur can breed
(Social and Lifespan gaps)

  • Rapid Maturation 1.0: Lowers the minimum breeding age by 50%.
  • Rapid Maturation 2.0: Lowers the minimum breeding age by 75%.
  • Rapid Maturation 3.0: Lowers the minimum breeding age to 1 (using the in-game age)

> Future Updates

  • Comfort gene mutations (stress/forest/grassland/population/social)
