About this mod

This mod enables and "fixes" a hidden game mode that was left in Journey's code, allowing players to shoot explosive rockets at each other, much like what was shown in the "Rocket Death Match DLC" joke video made by the developers. (Currently only works for Steam version)

The year after Thatgamecompany released Journey for PS3, they put out a video teasing an upcoming "Rocket Death Match DLC" (see video tab) - of course, it was just a joke made for April Fool's Day, and this "DLC" was never released.
However, much of the gameplay/assets were left hidden in the game's code and files, and it has now been hacked together into a working multiplayer game mode for PC(Steam)!

In Rocket Death Match, you run and jump in the style of a third-person shooter, and can shoot rockets that explode when hitting a solid object in the environment. If you or an online companion - rather, a competitor - are caught in a rocket blast, you get pushed away or launched into the air.
This mod also includes the ability to meet competitors in Chapter Select and the final level, and return to Chapter Select from other levels together without getting disconnected.

(Also has a bonus function and special event that are enabled on New Year's Eve/Day)

**Things to note:**
You are only able to connect to other players who are also using this mod, for obvious reasons.

The mod requires Cheat Engine for rockets to work in multiplayer - be aware that Cheat Engine is often incorrectly detected as malware by antivirus/security software. The Cheat Engine .CT file included with this mod does nothing except alter the behavior of the modded game.

The "fix" to make rockets work in multiplayer is not yet 100% accurate, but it is extremely close: rockets will nearly always go
where you aim them, and follow almost exactly the same path in your game and your competitor's game.

Journey's leftover code and files do not seem to include the behavior or assets for any of the other extra game mechanics seen in the "Rocket Death Match DLC" video: there is no health or ammo counter, etc... it appears they were probably just added in with a video editor, anyway.
There's also no collision detection to make rockets explode when they hit players or NPC's.
So at the moment, this mod does not include any of that either, but hopefully it can in the future.
