    Ok seriously why can't people just stick to modding without all this (whatever "this" is)? I wanted the ITR1 pet cat so i tried getting the itr1 version of ue4ss to work - i tried doing it manually AND using vortex, but the game just kept crashing. I gave up. Now it seems even the simple ITR2 mods i want require this, and i figured the itr2 version would HAVE to work for me, because statistically speaking it's about time my luck should change. BUT NO!

    So now what, i have to go on discord, which i hate because it's just hundreds of people commenting in the same place with no order or organization? Here's what will happen - someone will give me instructions that either won't work or won't come close to reflecting what i am seeing on my own screen. That's what always happens, and because I don't have a cis degree I'm inevitably made to feel stupid

    Should i just wait for all this insanity to get sorted out in the future, or is there any possible way a complete novice can get this stuff WHATEVER IT ACTUALLY EVEN IS working?  Advice please

      Why cant you just drive a car without a steering wheel, or breaks. That's basically what your asking by "why can't people just stick to modding without all this (whatever "this" is)?"
      UE4SS is not native to ITR2 In fact, it never natively worked well at all with ITR2 to begin with. This mod is a repack meaning it is a modified version of general purpose modding tools and loaders so that It may work at all with ITR2 mainly for mod developers.

      If you had asked in the discord, we probably would have referred you this easy to follow along video:

      If you actually followed basic instructions, you would know that the cat mod needs a change to the UE4SSSettings.ini file if you were experiencing crashing with certain versions of UE4SS.

      UE4SS is currently not the most stable mod in the world and crashes ITR2 frequently when transitioning levels. We as a community have been trying to track down this issue for months to little avail. This is an absurdly complicated problem that the modding community is trying to fix using our own free time. In the meantime, most BPML based mods which is one of ue4ss's main use cases are supporting Simple Mod Loader. Give that a try instead. just make sure you follow instructions properly and please stop acting passive aggressive towards developers who are simply trying to make your game better for free.

      Thanks but I did everything in the video exactly how I was told and it still doesn't work. No big deal: ITR2 is a fun game even without mods. My main question before was will it always be this complicated, or will things eventually get sorted out so that even someone who doesn't understand any of this stuff will be able to get things working? You said yourself it was unstable - I'm hoping maybe in the future it won't be, but until then I guess I can just play the sequel and be happy without mods.

      Maybe I got a little mouthy before but computer stuff is always presented as if it's really simple, and if I don't understand everything it must be because I'm just an idiot. Believe me or don't, but I'm not a stupid person - I just don't know ANYTHING about ANY of this. I don't understand 90% of what you just told me. I still don't understand what ue4ss even IS - people say it's a mod, some say a scripting tool (HUH?), etc etc. (Like when people told me England was considered a county, but the UK, which England is in, is also considered a country...huh? ue4ss makes about as much sense to me. You think it's easy because you already understand it.)

      BTW I didn't have a problem with the cat mod because of bad cat-mod installation - the problem was that I never even got that far because I couldn't get ue4ss working on ITR1, despite following the directions exactly. And I was confused because there are hundreds of ITR1 mods that don't require ue4ss. Did people start using ue4ss for itr1 so they could do things that couldn't be done without it? Or did they start using ue4ss as a new way of doing everything, even things that could have been done without ue4ss?

      Let me ask you this, and maybe this will clear up some confusion. Obviously in ITR1, there were many mods that did not require ue4ss. Do most mods for ITR2 absolutely REQUIRE ue4ss, even the simplest ones? In other words, would it be theoretically possible to make a >>SIMPLE<< mod without ue4ss that would allow me to transport from the base to the Perchorsk Outskirts, without anything fancy? (Because I would rather have something simple and reliable than something cool but unreliable.) Also, there is an ITR2 mod (requiring ue4ss) that made it always daytime - there's no way this could have been done without ue4ss? It sounds like such a simple thing to do, and it was easy to do something similar in ITR1, but maybe ITR2 is so totally different from ITR1 that even simple mods like this absolutely require ue4ss? Again I'm genuinely asking, because I have absolutely no idea.

      Regarding your brakes and steering wheel analogy... if I had a car that made even steering and braking so complicated that I couldn't understand any of it, I would just sell that car and get an old 1969 Firebird where the brakes and steering were incredibly simple and made sense even to a non-mechanic.

      Sorry that my response also came across condescending Ive been working on updating and rebuilding my mods for 0.13.0 for the past
      month and as you can imagine, I'm ready to take a much needed break from the ITR2 modding scene for a bit.

      Previously, in terms of mods, You couldn't really make any code mods (Mods that could run custom code). All of the mods made were something along the lines of replacers, data table modifications, and some of the more advanced mods such as chuck's custom items were such complicated and impressive accomplishments that you would need a rocket science degree to understand how they were made. The biggest limitation of ITR1 was that you couldn't add anything completely new to the game. you could only manipulate or change what was already in the game.
      Along came ITR2 and around that time MerithTK had just taken over as the manager of the vortex extension (the code needed for vortex mod manager to install mods correctly.), with this extension, Merith decided to take UE4SS and modify it so that It could run on ITR2 and ITR1 with the vortex installer.
      UE4SS mainly went unnoticed with the exception of a few Lua Programmers in the community until I got curious as to what it was about and I discovered just how capable UE4SS mods made with UE4SS's Blueprint mod loader could be.
      I started experimenting with it to see how capable it really was and I ended up with a fully functional helicopter that completely blew everyone's minds away. That is when I was able to finally make my point that Blueprint mod loading was THE way to make code mods with completely new content for ITR.
      Now that I had made my point, It was now time to figure out how to stabilize the whole thing. I reached out to KZekai to try and get his S.T.A.L.K.E.R.2 BPML project file for me to dissect to try and make my own, however this absolute madlad (who didn't even have a VR headset) went out of his way to make a BP Mod loader designed around stability for ITR2! I genuinely can not thank KZ enough for this super generous act.
      Anyway, the few UE4SS mods in ITR1 were ones me and a few Lua Programmers have made to test the extent of it's capabilities for ITR1. Turns out, its perfectly stable in ITR1 (with the most recent patch). That's why UE4SS is becoming so popular now.
      Soon, with some new mod managers getting developed, I hope UE4SS installation will become much simpler than It currently is.

    Genuinely followed instructions for both Vortex and manually, I cannot get this to install correctly. The instructions are very unclear or incorrect (Step 2 for manual install states "override.dll" but below that it states "Your files should look something like this" where it states "override.txt" instead), and installing it through Vortex causes the error "Installation Cancelled" when trying to install it there with no solution.

    Can someone make a video on how to install this properly? Lots of mods require this but it's extremely confusing on how to actually install it.

    Game crashes. No matter what I do I can't get it to load. A console pop up for a few seconds but nothing more.

    Bro what? I'm so confused. You do realize some of us are not computer engineers right? Changing a folders name....ok I can do that. Modify the settings.ini file to have `ModsFolderPath = ./LuaMods` be set...WTF does that mean? I opened the settings file and it looks like the words "ModsFolderPath = ./LuaMods" are already there. So I don't know what your asking me to change. Then it says "add the file `custom-format.txt` to the root of the zip" Add the file? What file? There is no file named "custom-format.txt" There's only changelog, readme, ue4ss.dll and ue4ss-settings. No custom-format.txt file. and "the root of the zip"? What root?! it's not a plant or a tree. It doesn't have roots! WTH are you talking about?! Try to remember some of us didn't go to hacker collage. You have to give clear instructions that normal people will understand.

    Does what it says on the tin. 
    Cool re-pack and even cooler manual instructions. Although it seems the workings of UE4SS seems to be a magical unicorn to most modders using it. Can't get anything to work besides the default packages that come with this re-pack.

    i use Vortex to install. is that what i am doing wrong. this dont work.

    i installed exactly like the guide was and it didnt work. it only said UE4SS.dll failed to load and i double checked if i manually installec correctly. oh and also i used vortex and that also didnt work.

      and more importantly, why does the installation guide refer to ITR2 even though this should be the conversion to ITR1? I feel like they just copypasted the installation guide from the original mod here

      UE4SS is a "framework" technically, it is meant to allow for loading Blueprint/Logic Mods in Unreal Engine games, ITR2 uses Unreal 5.3, 

      The guide is for those who wish to not use vortex for personal reasons or wish to install a custom version ue4ss, 

      And actually, I put together the guide based off of how I wrote the vortex extension to work. The separate release for ITR1 and ITR2 are because as of release 0.12.0 for ITR2, requires a game specific patch to the BPModLoader,
