Morrowind May Modathon 2025 Has Officially Closed

  • Comment
Another May has come and gone, and with it, another incredible chapter in the modding legacy of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. The 2025 Morrowind May Modathon brought together modders new and old to honour 23 years of adventures across Vvardenfell with an explosion of creativity, collaboration, and community spirit.

Organised by long-time community icons darkelfguy and Danae123, and hosted on both the Nexus Mods Forums and Morrowind Modding Community platforms, this year’s Modathon saw 179 mods submitted and featured new achievement systems, weekly challenges and a treasure trove of modding content.

Modders shared WIPs, gave feedback and helped each other overcome technical hurdles. Whether you were a returning veteran or someone releasing your very first mod (hello, Novice of Madness achievers!), the Modathon was designed to celebrate participation over perfection.

Several mods were born from cross-community collaboration, some even created entirely during the event through team efforts; a testament to the enduring strength of the Morrowind modding scene.

Over 170 Mods Released in May!

Modders rose to the challenge and then some, releasing over 170 mods throughout May 2025. From massive landmasses and sprawling quests to handy bug fixes and immersive audio overhauls, this year’s crop of releases continues to push the boundaries of what Morrowind can be.

Each week featured two theme prompts to help guide the modding community, and modders could incorporate one or both into their mods to earn exclusive challenge achievements!

Week 1: Fables & Foibles
Week 2: Horror & History
Week 3: Greed & Desire
Week 4: Parties & Betrayal

Some of my personal favourites include:

Smith – The Weapon Crafting Framework by Safebox: Introduces a deep and flexible weapon crafting system that integrates seamlessly into Morrowind’s lore and gameplay.
Old Lady Who Lives in a Shoe by HeroDOA: A charming and portable home shaped like a shoe, perfect for nomadic characters.
Aetherwind by Billyfighter and The Aethership Team: A full-blown airship mod, complete with interior cells, quests, and even new floating locations.
Lost Relics of the Temple by Kildozery: A lore-heavy questline involving ancient Tribunal artefacts and mysterious ruins.
Thirty-Six - Playable Dice Game by CarlZee: A beautifully integrated mini-game rooted in Dunmeri culture.
Morrowind BAIN Vortex Support by Apocrypher00: An extension for Vortex that helps with modding files stored in the BAIN format.

If you’re looking for the full list of mods created for the event, you can find them on the original forum post.

Expanded Achievement System & Modathon Prizes

As always, modders participating in the Modathon had the opportunity to unlock exciting achievements from their submissions. This year, the achievement system has greatly expanded to include over 90 achievement badges. Each mod release was automatically eligible for several achievements based on content, release date, popularity and more.

These will be awarded one month after the Modathon, based on stats such as endorsements, downloads and category popularity. You can find out more about the achievements in the original forum post

This year’s Modathon included a prize draw for all participants who released at least one mod:

1st Prize – $50 Digital Gift Card (GOG/Steam)
2nd Prize – $30 Digital Gift Card
3rd Prize – $20 Digital Gift Card

All winners will be announced publicly in late June, after mod stats have settled, so keep an eye out in case you’ve won.

A Huge Thank You

It's safe to say that the Morrowind modding community is more alive than ever. Twenty-three years on, players are still devoted to modding this legendary title as part of a vibrant, passionate and endlessly creative community.

Thank you to everyone who participated, played, endorsed, or simply lurked and enjoyed the incredible work modders have done this year.

I participated for the first time, it was good fun! My first proper Morrowind mod, and my first mod release in 14 years. And I love many of the mods others released during the event.

    Yay, more Morrowind mods!

When is one person going to voice act the entire Morrowind game?
