By far the best mod for me as a casual to Metroidvanias. I was about to drop the game. The amount of backtracking, secret areas, terrible map (understanding where you actually discovered sections, blocked routes, etc) was already too much for me. You'd think a game with a 97% review score wouldn't lose more than half the players after the first Hornet fight.
This made the game 10x more enjoyable as you spend less time dying to compensate the backtracking, and to actually enjoy the charms you got.
I write this as I finally beat the game with the true ending, now looking into all the secrets and extra content that I missed for 112%!
(One issue I encountered was at rare moments, my fps would drop from 240 to frozen during intense fights and cause me to die)
--- edit: all assets (music, sound, graphic and video) are in the wrong folder... since this patch convert the steam version to gog version, before extracting the content of the zip file, you need to rename the folder hollow_knight_Data inside the game folder into Hollow Knight_Data
edit2: do not forget that i uploaded a new version of the patch, before using it remember to rename the folder inside the game folder
extract the zip file inside c:\Games\Hollow Knight
go to your steam folder , inside the steam game copy all .assets files like sharedassets411.assets, and all level files like level413 and place all those file both inside: c:\Games\Hollow Knight\Hollow Knight_Data and inside c:\Games\Hollow Knight\hollow_knight_Data
then use c:\Games\Hollow Knight\Hollow Knight.exe
--- i am running out of options here :/
edit: are you sure you did download the new zip files ? it still says 0 downloads...
Bit of a story. Copying all files from the new steam version kept failing to launch the game. I decided to download the old version marked "Old File" at the bottom of the page. I installed, found there was only one file in the archive marked "Assembly-CSharp.dll". I replaced the original with it. The game started. I sat at a bench and swapped out some of the enchantment things. Each only took up one slot, meaning it worked. I wiped the installation and downloaded the new steam version. This time instead of copying and renaming the entire archive I only took the "Assembly-CSharp.dll" out and overwrote the original again. Booted again. The game launched, and as far as I can tell it worked.
i see, keep in mind that the last version 7.0 , 1.9mb filesize, has a bugfix on damage that XxArcherEmiya11xX helped me to discover. that same file was included in the steam version, you say it was the only file needed, i see, so i will remove the steam patch.
with the version 7.0, in the dll file, there is an improvement on the second dlc... you are asked to get one temporary nerf of your choice among many, and these nerfs are lowered in amount/impact
unfortunately previously i bugged out the nail damage, that returned to the unmodded value. with the 7.0 fix, now the nail damage is +3 compared to the unmodded value, and when you apply a temporary malus in the dlc 2, you just gain the unmodded damage value, instead of the unmodded malus.
modded nail damage x+3, max 21+3 (unmodded just x, max 21) nail bound damage x, max 21 (unmodded 13)
---
other than that, the amount of monsters you need to kill to complete the bestiary is reduced when the bestiary asks for 20+ monster kill, you get a -20% discount... so you need to kill 16 monsters instead of 20, also kill 20 monsters instead of 25
---
well i am glad it works for you, maybe some of those extra files were actually useful, while other of those extra files were crashing the game.
Hi! I encountered a problem, nail damage didnt increase? In example: crawlid with 8hp still takes 2 hits to kill, husk bully with 15hp still takes 3 hits to kill, husk guard with 70hp still takes 14 hits to kill. Charm notches increased and health decresed accordingly. Game Version 1.5.78.1183 (Steam)
i tested this game with gog version, hopefully with steam there should be no problem
the part that adjust the naildamage, and the charm slot cost activates when you are near a bench and sit on the bench, then after you move and stand up the damage should be increased.
tell me if you still have that problem, if yes you can give me a sha1 checksum file of your game folder, so i can check the differences between steam and gog.
--- in case you cannot fix the improved nail damage just sitting on a bench, then:
install this: using this tool: https://github.com/gurnec/HashCheck/releases/download/v2.4.0/HashCheckSetup-v2.4.0.exe
create for me a sha1 file of inside the game folder: select all files and folders, then right click and choose: create checksum.
1 single sha1 will have all files on the game, including those in sub-folders... so i can check what is different from gog version.
Did you ever get an update on this? I seem to be having the same problem that the nail damage is not increasing when I sit on a bench at the start of the game.
Hello! Thank you for an incredible mod, helped me pass pantheon 5. But now the question is how to remove it? I have tried to reinstall the game twice but everything is still the same, can you help?
after substituting the dll file, with this mod remover dll file enter the modded saved game, go to the nearest bench, sit and take off all charms, then exit game and restore the unmodded dll file
How do i modify the notch costs? i did use dnspy went too charmCost tried to modify them but the notch still costed 1 i tried to hange them to 0 i also noticed that the mods i installed using scarab will not carry over when i put your file into the directory and when i selected the directory for scarab the mod will dissapear or rather will not take effect i use Infinite notches there for my enjoyment however i do like the expierience this nod of yours brings to the game or can i just modify how many notches i can equip?
in theory you will be able to equip all charms... but it will graphically be glitched, the menu where you equip charms. as it can draw only 13 max charms used, without glitching the graphic... so 12 charms + void charm for no visual menu glitch
---
the added code check if your charm " Fury of the Fallen" costs 1, if it costs 1 then tries to set all charms to 0 there is extra code to write if you want the dual choice charms to be 0 always... but even if you do nothing more, at most you will still be able to equip all charms at once.
edit: unfortunately this mod is not compatible with scarab, i tried to use bepinex and other similar tools to scarab, but i always have difficulty... modding with dnspy is easier even if bepinex and scarab have advantages :/ but i am kinda noob on modding...
if you become good at scarab, you can create your mod borrowing pieces from other mods including this... or you can just use dnspy and use this mod as a base, if you only need to do a few little changes.
thanks a lot yeah my editing didn't work hahaha it just made my health to 1 and i died in one hit always no also messed with the mask ui and the notch cost was still 1 haahahahah
dreamnail now gives back 66 or 99 soul, instead of 33 or 66
weaversong + grub charm make spider pets give 8 soul while being hit, instead of 3 adding elegy raises it to 13 soul
edit: modded boundnail and fixed boundshell for godmaster dlc
boundnail = -3 damage boundshell = -looted masks (base is 4 masks +2 charm, +2 joni charm, +2 lifeblood, +4 lifecore) boundcharm = keep all charms, if more than 4 slots used then become overcharmed
I added this mod to try to get past Hornet, and I'm not sure it helped... I now have 4 health but can't yet access the charm you mention that boosts my health, so while I do more damage I have less margin for error, so I'm not really getting any further even with all my charms equipped (stalwart shell and the soul one being the important ones). Just a warning for others that this mod might be best to add to a game where you're past Hornet.
For others looking to adjust the game difficulty a bit: If this mod's setup isn't your specific need, download Scarab mod manager created by "fifty-six" from Github. Download the zip file, unzip and run the .exe file and you can then look through the available mods for "Debug" and install with one click. It's a mod that lets you toggle a variety of cheat options off and on very easily, like infinite health, by adding a "mods" menu with debug console options to your game. (Edited- I previously was requesting a version without the health adjustment, but found the Debug mode mod worked for me so wanted to post something helpful to others instead of just bothering the mod creator.)
the mod works best when starting a new game from scratch. still... you have 1 less health, but you can equip up to 13 different charms if i am not mistaken. did you try to equip more charms ? do they all cost 1 socket only ? (except void)
if you can upgrade the weapon, you will raise its power much more. if you already have the secret tecniques they now charge very fast. also the blue health is consumed as last resort, when only 1 white health is left. (instead of always consuming blue first)
edit: before fighting hornet in greenpath you can kill 2 blue bugs, and get 2 extra blue health (with this mod, blue health is consumed for last... when you have only 1 white health left.) it is easy to start the hornet fight in greenpath with +2 blue health.
if you cannot pogo stick jump from the shade to salubra shop, then with the dash ability (after hornet greenpath) you can get a charm from salubra, then explore east and bottom to another vendor giving +2 white health charm.

ok this should work it by interacting with the bench
I
dreamnail now gives back 66 or 99 soul, instead of 33 or 66
weaversong + grub charm make spider pets give 8 soul while being hit, instead of 3
adding elegy raises it to 13 soul
edit: modded boundnail and fixed boundshell for godmaster dlc
boundnail = -3 damage
boundshell = -looted masks (base is 4 masks +2 charm, +2 joni charm, +2 lifeblood, +4 lifecore)
boundcharm = keep all charms, if more than 4 slots used then become overcharmed
Thanks so much for making this!
still... you have 1 less health, but you can equip up to 13 different charms if i am not mistaken.
did you try to equip more charms ? do they all cost 1 socket only ?
