    6 June 2024 Update News
Hi everyone 😊. My GPU has died due to a faulty laptop bios update so I can't do much at the moment. I was able to run the new patch for a few minutes... It looks like Avalanche has disabled (broken?) the UE Tonemapper, over sharpened the game, and some of the lighting in the library looks broken. None of these are great news. I can't fully verify at the moment, but I'll be investigating as soon as I can 🖖❤️

    Be excellent to each other.
If you have constructive feedback please do let me know 😊. This mod has been tested on many PCs by many different people and works fine, but you need to read Common Problems in the next sticky.

Use version v9.0 if you want to just jump in and play
Use v9.1 if you want to customise in-game graphics.

FSR3 is working fine with v9.0 and v9.1 without any changes.
    I recommend:

    • Download the DLSSTweaks version of DLSS-to-FSR3
    • As per the instructions add the line for nvngx_dlssg. For Steam, this is:
        nvngx_dlssg=C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts
        Legacy\Phoenix\Binaries\Win64\dlssg_dlsstweaks_wrapper.dll

    • Copy the two FSR3 0.81 or higher files, and DLSSTweaks files to:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Binaries\Win64\
    • Enable Frame Gen in game
    • That's it! There should be no changes required to the ini or anything else for it to work 😊
UPDATE: I didn't realise DLSS-to-FSR3 doesn't work with 1000 series cards. I'll update the mod to work with LukeFZ's FSR3 as well (please give me a few days)

    Solutions to Problems

    • Low FPS / Crash on startup — This game has problems in its config files which only appear when you run this mod, even if things run fine in vanilla. Unfortunately I can't patch the game directly, so I've provided tools to automatically fix it for you. In the mod go to the folder Solutions -> Crash on startup OR low FPS and follow the instructions
    • Disable VSync. Ultra+ enables the newer DirectX flip presentation, which doesn't need VSync (and doesn't work with it). You will see this is most new games. if you need to, please cap FPS for the game in the GPU control panel.
    • Empress is no longer supported. It's simply too complicated to debug just the current version of the game. Please stay with v9.0 or purchase the game if you're able
    • If you see dithered shadows the main pak isn't working. Please ensure "Upscaling Technology" in the in-game graphics menu is not set to "None". The pak uses FSR1 to do de-dithering on the higher quality shadows and will not work with zero upscaling (DLAA works correctly, too — just not 'none').
    • If you get potato graphics, set in-game graphics to Low > click Apply > set back to Ultra > click Apply
    • If you've used Empressyou may have a cryptominer causing problems. The miner exits when you open Task Manager. Type tasklist /v in an adnim Command Prompt to find it. Search Reddit for more info.
    • If you can't quite run the game because your PC is too potato, please let me know and I'll help if I can
    • Flickering grass with NVidia frame gen -> enable Low Latency mode in NVidia control panel (ty to DerUngrund 😊)
    • Any other common issues check the full How to Use and Troubleshooting Guide (Description page) and ask here if you're still stuck
    • Tested with the NVidia 537.99 Studio and 537.13 Game Ready driver and all is well again 😊

If you need help or having great success please tell us here. I answer everyone (though I may take a few days). Let me know:

    • Version of game (Feb or June)
    • Full / Insane / Basic?
    • Version of Ultra+? e.g. v8.1
    • Raytracing settings?
    • Video card + graphics memory
    • What's happening (screenshots and error messages help a lot)

    Ty 😊

Trying to use this for the first time but can't get it to work consistently. Using zzz_UltraPlus-_v9.0-rc1_RTSkylight_P, zzz_UltraPlus_RealismLighting_v1.1 and 'Insane with RT Water (30x0 or 40x0 or AMD equivalent) - Copy' with an FE 3080.

I get really low FPS and it just looks awful. I don't even know how to describe how it looks...like flat and pastelly with really blotchy shadows that flicker and pop in big blocks.

Yesterday when trying this mod I ran 'reset-hogwarts-config.bat' and it fixed the graphics and then ran really well - but today, back to the original problem. Don't know if this is relevant but I seem to get a message saying the game is rebuilding shader cache every time I load.

Just FYI, the mod breaks whenever you toggle Photomode. Any chance to get a fix?

This mod + Ultra Fog + Sherlock Lighting makes the game look beautiful. Using it on my 2nd "evil" playthrough. However, the Skylight RT and ray tracing in general is just not worth it. My system is a 13700k paired with a 4080 and I can't get playable FPS with the Skylight RT. Even if I use the regular RT, I have to set DLSS to performance (big image quality hit) or mess around with the frame gen part of this mod. I skipped all of that and I'm now using the regular pak along with the "Insane" (non-RT) ini. I can run it with no DLSS, just using DLAA. Kudos to sammilucia!

interesting. see the sticky posts about FPS issues. I get 70 fps with RT skylight at DLSS quality on a 3070 Ti (laptop, 1440p)

haha my first playthrough was evil! 😂 🙌

I wasn't able to get the Skylight RT to produce playable FPS for me, but I ended up switching to the "Fantasy" lighting included in this mod. I turned on all of the raytracing and now I'm able to run it at 60+ FPS with DLSS Balanced mode. The game looks beautiful. Thanks again for this mod!

Here's a couple screen caps. I'm not good at screenshotting but it gives an idea of performance.

I should mention the changes I made, mostly due to the Summer Update.

      1. I ditched the Ultra Fog mod. I actually don't mind the vanilla fog, it's just everywhere in the interiors and creates an ugly haze. This mod alone fixes that problem.
      2. The Summer Update apparently broke Tonemapper settings, which causes the image to be grainy. I went into the Engine.ini (insane preset) and removed the r.TonemapperFilm=1 and r.Tonemapper.Quality=5 settings.
      3. I also had to edit the r.RayTracing.Reflections.MaxRoughness and change it from 0.7 to 0.5. Without this change, the RT is incredibly noisy and looks awful.
      4. Finally, the Summer Update caused repeated crashing. It crashes in vanilla, so not the fault of any mod. I resolved this by forcing an FPS limit in the NVIDIA Control Panel. My monitor's refresh rate is 144hz so I set the limit to 72 FPS. No crashes after that change.

Hope this helps others who are having issues.

The changes you mentioned made my game more smooth and nicer - but I am still getting crashes. I have a 60Hz monitor so I set 60Hz limit in Nvidia Settings for Hogwarts.
Update: turning GPU scheduling off solves the crashes, but turns off frame generation, which results in a big hit on FPS. Seems we'll have to live with that until it is fixed.

Unfortunately couldn't really get this to work for me fully. The lighting changes and rendering improvements worked, as well as the upscaling, but I was getting horrible screen breakage and awful anti-aliasing artifacts around the characters and some UI elements.

what version should I use with empress? Tried 9.0 and 8.4 neither seem to work. The lighting changes but I get low quality textures and they dont change no matter what I do or how long I wait.

    • Steam Version 1218405

    •  v9.0-rc1

    • AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics            3.90 GHz
    • My game original has a lot of issues with lighting and color palette. With colors having a filter for each room that would pretty much overwrite all color. If the room was warm then everything was yellow, if the room why bright then everything was white, etc. On top of that the colors didn't really "pop". I install the mod and not much has changed. On top of that I feel that now it looks worse, with a lot of weird artifacts.
Edit. The color filter issue was fixed by changing the lighting from Hary's to the Fatansy one offer on this mod.
    Pic 1 (everything is yellow)

    Pic 2 (wierd artifacts)

      Hey @redtim76!

I scanned all 42 pages of this Mod Page and found 4 mentions of the Steam Deck (Five if I include your question right here)

2 of those mentions were questions, and the other 2 were responses from the author.

The first mention was a "bug report" about the Lumos spell causing frame drops, which was quickly sorted-through and patched by the author, so I believe that bug-fix is present in the latest update. The user who posted that report said that this mod greatly increased performance in most areas, but that they still experienced slight frame drops in certain locations, but over all the game looks and feels great.

From that post alone I can infer that, yes, this mod works great on Steam Deck, and I'm excited to try it out myself.

Running into a few issues, however.

Yeah, I think it was just the patch that broke the game for me (not this mod).

I haven't played the game for months. So I just updated the game with latest patch and then applied this mod (v9.0) and I'm having crashes to desktop. I tried the tips about disable TDR, but did not work. So maybe the latest patch is not working well with this mod. I'll try Ascendio III to se if I have better performance with no crashes.

PS: I also applied the Nukem's frame generation mod. But I used the universal dll version. I couldn't make work using the DLSSTweaks Edition.

Not sure what the cause is, but it seems after the first crash the problems are becoming more frequent until you restart the whole PC.
Maybe video memory not freed up?

im on 9.1 not 9.0 i have not tested any of the older versions of this mod. one thing you might want to try is putting this mod in the main pak folder and not the ~mods folder

Well doesn't look like I'll be playing the game until this mod is updated, the game looks like it's been rendered at a lower resolution than it should be, and everything is overbright, which is what I think the sticky mentioned about the tonemapper being disabled. Doesn't look oversharp to me though.

By the way, if you do not own an RTX GPU you should give 'Lossless Scaling' app a try. It has its own form of DLSS/FSR and Frame Generation that works with any GPU. You can find the app in Steam as well.

oh that's a good point! I could enable UE's temporal upscaler, which is excellent. it looks very similar to DLSS and runs on anything.

nice one 😊. I don't have a computer at the moment and have a bunch of work to catch up on, but keen to fix this game as soon as I can, Iincluding the horrible, horrible exposure problems (wtf Avalanche)

interrresting... is that a blueprints mod?

if BP mods are written badly they will kill performance. if it's a mod speak with the author 😊
