You can put the preset where ever you like and just select it from the ingame ReShade overlay (POS1 hotkey).
However, since you are asking this question, downloading my step-by-step instructions might be the best choice for you, just to be safe. Why? For example: If you have been using a different ReShade preset for Hogarts Legacy before (and selected that one when you first installed ReShade for Hogwarts Legacy), your ReShade installation might not have downloaded all shaders, that are required for my preset, yet. Different ReShade presets use different shaders.
It is a ReShade and would only magnify an existing contrast. It doesn't turn particular objects black. I have several Hippogriffs in my room of requirements and none are close to being black. Please check your screen settings and make sure, that no other mod could have caused this. It might even have been an engine error. I sometimes have black leaves (without any ReShade), because the game doesn't want to render their illumination. You can set a hotkey for enabling/disabling the ReShade in the overlay (press POS1 -> go to the settings tab), to check if the issue is indeed caused by the ReShade (send a screenshot in that case, please).
