Hey, would it possible to play this mod with a single friend or would we have to join a server and play with a random amount of players? Would love to play this with a buddy and go through the story, but don't want our progress trampled by randoms in the server.
You can host your own private server, the information for it can be found on the Discord. However, it may not really be necessary. HogWarp is mainly intended as a sandbox that is ideal for exploration with friends and roleplay, plus other custom activities (like the included Broom Racing example plugin), similar to FiveM for GTA V.
Everything important to be able to do the story or any quest together is not synchronized: you cannot see the same enemies/NPCs, progression is not shared, spellcasting sync is not implemented, etc. While you can attempt to do the story at the same exact time, it will not be a good experience and you’ll also encounter bugs or crashes at various parts.
Playing on the available public servers should be fine to simplify things and random players would largely not affect much should you attempt to try the story anyway. In a nutshell, you would be experiencing it together but can’t affect each other’s progress at all, nor see the same things. So it may not be worth it if you want a good story co-op experience.
Hey, no viruses or trojans are in HogWarp. The code is unsigned, and it behaves in a way where antivirus software can trigger false positives as it needs to inject into the game's process. It is absolutely safe and if you don't trust it, you don't have to use it. There have been talks about code signing in the past, but it was deemed not worth it for the cost, the need to register personal information, and this is really just a side project for the developers. It is understandable to be alarmed but if you look around at similar projects on the Internet, this is a common situation. It's completely safe, and if it wasn't it wouldn't be allowed on Nexus Mods. Themida is also used to obfuscate the code and protect against people wanting to steal it.
The presence of a Themida Trojan cannot be ruled out: Although it is claimed that there are no viruses or Trojans in the mod, the presence of a Themida Trojan in the code may be a legitimate concern for users. Themida is known for its ability to hide malware within a program's code, which can compromise the security of the system it runs on.
The lead developer is a well known modder with other popular projects such as Cyber Engine Tweaks for Cyberpunk 2077 and is also a medical doctor in real life. Do you think he would really risk his reputation by including malicious things in it? Themida is used to protect against reverse engineering from those that want to steal it and make their own mod, and that's it. There is no virus in this, please remove your tinfoil hat.
If you have installed other mods, remove them, Unmanage the game from Vortex if you've used it. Do not use ReShade, UE4SS.
Change the game language to English if using a different language. If Chinese, I have an unofficial mod available that fixes the startup crash with Chinese.
Make sure the game is fully updated from Steam or Epic Games Store. Restart your PC, run it normally, close it, then retry.
Check if your antivirus is falsely blocking anything.
It is also in the pinned messages of the #general channel of the HogWarp Discord server.
You must make sure the game language for Hogwarts Legacy is set to **English** and then copy either the Simplified or Traditional Chinese mod file to the Mods folder in your HogWarp folder. It will be in Chinese now without crashing.
This fix worked for most Chinese players that tried it. However, there was one person that it still didn't work for. Please let me know if it works for you.
No, it only works on legitimately obtained copies of the game. This developer along with every other ethical modder makes their mods compatible for purchased copies of games. Furthermore, if you like the game enough why don't you support the creators to show that you actually like their work. It gives them a reason to continue to do the work they do and publishers look at this as a reason to make more games of this franchise. TLDR; NO, IT DOESN'T WORK FOR PIRATED COPIES.
No, respect the law, respect the hard work of the developers and actually buy it legit, even if that means you have to wait till it goes on sale. And blocking people because they respect the law unlike you aparently isn't exactly the best course of action.
In countries like mine, Argentina, buying a game like this costs a lot, a lot of money, 1 dollar is worth 1,000 pesos, they charge us 50 USD + 100% taxes, it is 100 USD, here it is 100,000 thousand pesos, that is, half of an average monthly salary... It is quite unfair that being a mod it is purposely designed not to work with cracked versions
Bruh in some countries that game costs half of average monthly salary, i'm not going to argue who is wrong or right, the choice is creator's only and i can respect it. But be a bit understanding before judging, needless to say the company still earns millions off the game and devs get paid regardless whether the game gets pirated or not.
Im not debating repecting the law to a bunch of people who expolt and change the game these devs spend time making, I anit sinless for being a pirate but I aint a high horse riding, butthole bleacher unlike you

1. Cracking a game is not against the law, you are legally allowed to do whatever you want with software on your computer. No matter what bullshit these companies want to spout in their not legally enforceable EULAs and TOS. Specifically, the redistribution of copyright protected software is the Illegal part of piracy, as it violates copyright law. Cracking a game, or even downloading a cracked copy, is not illegal, the only person doing something illegal in this process is the person who uploaded the game files for others to download. If instead, we want to believe that the EULA and ToS of these companies and games is determining what is legal, this entire mod is illegal. The Hogwarts Legacy EULA clearly states that "The purchaser is not allowed to modify the game client in any way."
2. I will "respect the law" and "hard work of developers" when the companies selling this do that themselves. Developers do not get a cut of the sales. They were paid to produce the game, they do not see any cut of the sales, all of the money is pocketed by Execs who had absolutely nothing to do with the development or production of the game, to add insult to injury, Game developers are often overworked and underpaid because they are often exploited for their passion about producing a product(This is extremely common for most creative fields, Manga publishers have been known to literally work artists to death), unreasonable deadlines are set, forcing large amounts of unpaid overtime, as well as generally low wages. Ontop of that, the company blatantly does not respect us, because you can't even buy a copy of the game that is guaranteed to work indefinitely (As long as you can obtain hardware/software capable of running it). According to the EULA and ToS that you signed, you purchased a REVOCABLE limited license to access the game client, the Publisher can null your copy of a single player game at any time without notice, software on your computer, that you purchased, will only run with continued permission from the publisher/developer. If Warner Bros. Ever decides to stop paying Denuvo the continued payments for their DRM, Denuvo will stop accepting and renewing tickets from the game, if Warner Bros then does not push out an update removing Denuvo (They don't have too, legally, you didn't actually buy the game, you bought a revocable license, and this is just them revoking it, so it doesn't actually have to work, and they already have your money), your single player game that you legally purchased will never work again. (Unless you "Illegally" pirate the software that you purchased)
Honestly, whether you think it's fair or unfair, mod authors and Nexus staff/moderators are not going to say or do anything on this website that could be construed as supporting or enabling piracy. It could jeopardize their ability to continue making mods and hosting them on this website if some IP owner decides they're tacitly condoning or encouraging piracy and drags them into a legal battle that will cost a fortune and almost certainly disrupt their work for a time, even if they ultimately win the case. None of these folks are rich or powerful enough to want to risk their own neck to help strangers mod pirated games.
Hello, do I have to do some kind of creating my own hogwarts server or client thing to put minor mods in the game? Me and my friend wants to play together and we understand some mods won't be allowed but what about simple minor mods like makeup/skin tones and hair mods? That's really all we care about if we play together.
Buy the game on Steam (recommended) or Epic Games Store. There is no support for pirated versions and there is a strict rule in the Discord against inquiring about piracy.
Modders with legit copies making the mod for people who bought the game to have a fun time and actually supporting the community, and then you go there with a pirate copy, you deserve that ban and that ban will be as long as they want it to be. You don't deserve this mod, ever nor will they ever make it for pirates.
@giogimic You think they are scummy for not supporting pirated games? What a deluded statement that is to make. Of course they're not going to go out of their way to give support to outdated cracked versions. This multiplayer mod works great as long as you own the game. Stop being broke and entitled.
sad to see mod devs being dicks. there is nothing wrong with pirating or using pirated version. but it is hilarious to see devs who steal code for their mods themselves to hate piracy. great hypocrisy right there
@Sssl So you're saying theirs nothing wrong with stealing and playing a game without paying for it or supporting the team that put a lot of work into it? What world do you live in where theirs nothing wrong with that?
Also Modders don't steal code. They alter or add code, and in a single player game, that they own and paid for, they have every right to do this. It is in no way stealing or illegal for them to do so.
>if he asked the question then he's obviously pirated the game it is a legit question, I've encountered mods before that required cracked versions of the game because of how invasive they were (they would trigger DRM and anti-cheat). How about you give somebody the benefit of the doubt before jumping on them and branding them the devil? Besides, what's so wrong about using a pirated version to begin with? I used to pirate games my entire childhood because I was too poor to buy them, I wouldn't be a gamer right now if I didn't do that.
Before I get bringanded like OP, I bought Hogwarts Legacy on Steam in the first week after release, though of course I pirated it first to see how it performs and if it's worth the money ;)
@Viper9293 its scummy to ban someone for just asking. i looked for that too, even if i have it brought on steam but i would like to play with someone that has not brought it and will not brought it.
@Merazul i agree that they don't have to support it. but the OP claims that they banned him in the discord just for asking. Just tell him its not supported and he has to deal with it themself is more than enough.
This Single Player non-gaas game requires an internet connection to launch and run locally, because Denuvo needs to periodically (Generally Weekly to Monthly) contact the server to obtain a key. If the game is installed on a machine that will have no access to the internet for an extended period, the Denuvo key will expire, and your Single-Player non-gaas game will not run.
Denuvo and WB as per the ToS and EULA that was signed when purchasing the game, is allowed to revoke access for any reason without warning. So even with an internet connection, Denuvo could decide to not validate your license, bricking your game. :) We live in a dystopian society where people defend these practices.

Why does the mod carry viruses? (Trojan themida)
quien no confie en lo que digo que use la web de virus total.
anyone who does not trust what I say should use virustotal's web site.

That's like asking, in the middle of a bank, "Could I rob the bank?.... In my head though ... not real life..." you'd get tackled to the ground...
Lol, banned in a single player non-gaas game.
