On 04 May 2023 WB Games released an official patch which made lots of changes to the game's SQL database. I have incorporated these into v1.1.0 of this mod, and (as of 07 May 2023) Mod Merger has been updated to reflect the changes made by the patch so you can now merge v1.1.0 with other SQL mods! Happy days! If this is the only SQL mod that you use, please update to version 1.1.0. If you use Mod Merger to merge this mod with other SQL mods then you don't need to update it, but you must update Mod Merger to v0.12 and re-merge your mods to incorporate the 04 May 2023 changes.

Introduction

Once you get used to the combat system in Hogwarts Legacy it can become a little too easy to defeat your enemies. If you add in potions, deadly plants and gear perks... you become quite significantly overpowered compared to your foes. There are several mods out there that seek to address this by making enemies more aggressive or giving them more health. This mod takes the simpler approach of merely giving all NPC's a level boost. (There is even a mechanism for doing this built into the Hogwarts Legacy SQL database)

In this mod I have given NPC's an average boost of 5 levels, but it can vary from 2 to 7. You should also be aware that the game already boosts some of the more deadly enemies by 2 or 3, so you could occasionally find yourself facing an enemy that's up to 10 levels higher than you. That's still do-able, given your advantages, but if they have a couple of friends with them (who are also several levels above you)... well... then you might have a decent fight on your hands! 😁

I should emphasise, however, that this mod will only boost NPC's by 5 levels from the level the game was planning to give them. How the game decides what level to assign is anyone's guess. It's not based solely on the player's level (though that does play a part) so you won't always face enemies that are 2-7 levels above you. A lot of the time they will be less than that. But at least they'll be 5 levels higher than you would have been facing!

Installation

This mod should install automatically via the "Vortex" or "Mod Manager Download" buttons.

Alternatively (or if Vortex fails) do a manual download then extract the PAK file from the ZIP file and put it in:
Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods\

If the ~mods directory doesn't exist, create it.

How to Un-Install

If you installed using Vortex, hit the "Remove" button on the mod inside Vortex... BUT afterwards ALSO check the folder "Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods\" to make sure there are no folders called something like "XXX-TougherEnemies5_v?_?_?" (where XXX is a three-letter prefix which depends on how many mods you have installed). If such a folder exists, delete it. Vortex should have deleted it but sometimes doesn't. If that folder is still there, the mod is still installed.

If you installed manually, just delete the TougherEnemies5 PAK file from the "Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods\" folder.

Conflicts

This mod alters and replaces the game's PhoenixShipData.sqlite SQL database file.

If you have other mods that modify the game's SQL data [like NPC Schedule Enhanced (Better AI) or my Fewer Spiders mod], use the Mod Merger program and follow the instructions therein on how to a) intelligently merge the changes and b) install the resultant merged PAK file. As an aside, if you want to know what changes my mod makes to the SQL database, just load my mod into Mod Merger and you'll see the list. 😇
