Thank you everyone for your messages/comments. I apologize for seeming inactive.
I am aware of the current issues from the newest update with the official mod support. Head models use skeletal meshes, which were updated with this patch. This means my current mods do not work. Remove any locally installed mods and folders for a clean game, verify files.
Modding on hold for now, but looking at possible solutions. I will update when I am able to, unsure when. I need some time to learn how to use the Creator Kit.
Updated both versions to 1.1, fixing game crashes. I tested in game for a while and have not yet experienced any issues, looks like it is solved - please let me know.
hi! thank you so much for your hard work, this was my favorite character preset. the new update broke this one and many other mods, but it's sooo hard to find good presets that look natural with darker skin, so this is the one i'm hoping will be added to the new modding system the most!
just tried this i did finally get in the game and create character ,even tho face was dark body seemed white at neckline, after creating game crashes , no other mods
Is there an easy way for a non-modder to change what Chunk ID or which face or hair a replacement mod uses? What tools would be needed? Are there any tutorials that you know of? A couple of other authors have a mod I really like, but they conflict with other mods I also like. I'm gussing it's more complicated than it probably sounds. Thanks!
It seems like it is possible, but as of writing I am sceptical. Was going to link a tool that I found for your specific issue with Chunk IDs, but I am hesitant now to link, as there is a recent comment about malware - I haven't personally tried the tool myself.
Changing which face or hair a mod replaces, has to be done by the author of the mod I think.
This tool rewrites all conflict ID's, so no conflicts exist, redo after every mod, and you get no conflict ID issues Do note that, a "PAK Mod" means (PAK UTOC UCAS) files each mod requires Chunk ID Conflict Manager at Hogwarts Legacy Nexus
Techy stuff Zen Loader is the new runtime loader for UE5 (also used in UE4.27 that's what version HL is using) Zen Loader reduces CPU overhead by using an optimized package and object dependency graph that is computed offline during the staging phase. Instead of packing all assets into one or more .pak file(s), Zen Loader packages all package data, bulk data and shader data into a set of .utoc and .ucas container files.
One thing to be aware of, this allows conflicting Chunk IDs to work together, it does NOT mean the files packed inside don't conflict. Known incompatible mods, that edit the files used to make Face 5, will conflict, and we don't (yet) have any file conflict resolution. That's what mod managers are for, putting three files in a ~Mods folder isn't really "managing" the mods, load order is file name managed. See a mod start zMOdName_P, it's trying to load last, and the _P tells UE4 it's a "DLC?Update Patch".
Also adding ! at the front seems to let more mods load, it's not usually needed, to begin with. Last after starting with new mods, you may lose some keybinds, just RESTART the game, and it gets fixed.
This seems to be due to mods editing ini files, and those don't get loaded until next time. In game keybinds work because that changes the game in your RAM, and edits the Ini.
While that may go over your head, it's basically saying the three files each mod has are just an extension to the older UE system of a Single pak file. So if you here talk of PAK Mod, UTOC Mod, or UCAS Mod, it usually means all three files, and because PAK files are much older, us old school modders have been saying PAK mods for many years.
Only thing it won't work with is the few single PAK file mods, as these mod the SQLlite Database, and that's the only old style "PAK" mods I've seen. So they need to be merged, as only one of SQLDB can exist, but also that's NOT the "SQL Mod Menu" SQL Mod Menu at Hogwarts Legacy Nexus This works, in a similar way but does it in game, button on the main menu is best, but a hotkey in a running game exists.
How it works, trying to be non technical, but modding is harder than making the games, as we often don't get the manual, or tools devs would use, even with some tools provided like base UE4, it's a "Microtransaction Engine", lots of costly plugins add functions we never get.
You can use a generic tool called QBMS, to extract many games Packed Games files, but for most mods like this one FModel is bette. It's designed for UE4 Model modding, does a grand job at that task, and this mod uses it, as the face mod guide mentioned explains..
Not so with HLs SQLite Database G:\Extracted\HogwartsLegacy\Phoenix\Content\SQLiteDB\PhoenixShipData.sqlite This is the Player's New game start state, and is the only thing in those single PAK mods (and the very first mods we got). It's the Game provided file, but Modded by each SQL mod creator Hogwarts Mod Merger at Hogwarts Legacy Nexus Only one "New Game" state can exist so all the PhoenixShipData.sqlite mods must be merged, and if they edit same entry last one in list wins.
PhoenixShipData.sqlite Is the Player New Game State, and is combined with the changes to that state (SAVE Game Files), together these give you your current loaded game state. To change a save game state, first make a backup, then use this tool for that job. Hogwarts Legacy Save Game Editor at Hogwarts Legacy Nexus
This is an HTML file, and can edit your save.
With all these Tools RTFM (Read The f***ing Manual) Not being offensive, that's the definition of the Acronym, and it's as old as engineering, but you'd be amazed how many time, the exact same question that a mod creator answered in the first line of many mod descriptions, is the same one asked over, and over again.
I've been providing mod support in 100s of game, all over the internet, for over a decade now, and I'm always willing to help you, AFTER you RTFM, and don't understand.I'm a modding expert, because I do RTFM, and know how to find answers without asking for help.
It's a skill most lack, and that's OK mod creators are often the worst, because their aim is to get their own mod(s) working with the game. Where my aim is always to get many (often hundreds) of mods working with each other, and the game. So we approach modding games from opposite directions.
That pretty much gets you up to date, tool wise, and were barely two months from release, and Skyrim didn't even get the Creation Kit, until 3 months after release. It's very early days, just yet. so mod creators Are still getting up to speed.
Most of this Info, is me trying things, and long experience with getting mods working. Knowing lots of pitfalls, and having over 600 games installed, most modded ready to play right now, you get to know what usually works with each engine, regardless of the game.
Thank you for that extensive and outstanding answer, UhuruNUru! Most of it was over my head (due to my lack of technical savvy, not your explanation). As someone who has trained people in almost every job I've ever had, I most definitely appreciate not only your knowledge, but your willingness and ability to lucidly share it with others.
I haven't wanted to download any other faces until this absolutely gorgeous face. Big sad though, cause the face itself either crashes my game (standard) or the texture doesn't load (stiff; I get the grey square boxes). I don't have any mods that are incompatible - I would love for the Stiff one to work big time :c
Sorry about this! I haven't been home for a few days, but I will investigate this issue as soon as I can. For this face model, I used a resource with standard faces ready to be sculpted, instead of preparing the model myself (to save time) - so I suspect the issue is from this. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thank you so much for updating so quickly! The face is so lovely it is absolutely worth the wait :)
Unfortunately, the updated stiff version is now causing a hard crash whenever I try to choose my character or load into character creator. The original stiff did work on occasion as I was able to load the texture correctly a few times with graphical changes (Changing from Ultra to Medium). Though, I am still having issues where the face doesn't load correctly and there is a grey checkered texture on the face instead especially in Ultra graphical settings.
I haven't tried the updated standard yet - I am particular to the stiff one cause of RP immersion purposes for my Slytherin playthrough. Thank you again for everything!
OMG - I'm so stupid! I fixed the updated stiff version. I realized I had an incompatible mod and removed it! So sorry for any confusion. I am so happy! Thank you~
It seems to be fixed now - thank you! Love your mods, BTW. This issue was a little different for me. In the past when mods have caused crashes, it was immediate. With the original version of this one, it allowed me to get almost halfway through the 'going to Hogwart's' sequences before crashing. With your update, I just made it all the way to Central Hall without issues. Awesome work, as usual!
This face is beautiful and I love using it, but the standard version is causing my game to crash. Not immediately, but only after a few minutes. At first I thought I accidentally deleted something in the game files, but I uninstalled and reinstalled the game to fix it, but it didn't change anything. I know it was this mod because I played for a while with everything else loaded except this mod, then restarted the game but with the mod and it crashed. Do you have any idea why or what's happening? I guess it could be a problem on my end, but I'm not sure. I haven't tried it with the stiff version yet, so I'm not sure if the same thing would happen with that.
Update + Edit: Tried it with the stiff version, it made the game crash too.
I am crashing as soon as I enter the game using this mod too. I tried everything including turning all of my settings down and nothing worked. I believe now this must sadly be the culprit. I love the face

I have included how to install and troubleshooting, frequent questions and how-to,
as well as mods shown, and resources I use for modding.
