This is the best freelancer mod. My enjoyment of lazying in safehouse increased tenfold with some nice lewd pictures.

If you can't deploy an edited zip file w/custom pics using the add a mod button in the SMF application,
instead, after unzipping the mod to my desktop and replacing some pictures with my own, keeping the same file name and the same chunk numbered sub-folders, I copied the custompaintings folder into the SMF Mods folder. (Not to be confused w/ Custom Paintings-533-1-0-1681..., I'm referring to the folder immediately inside of it.) Then I found the mod listed in available mods within SMF and added it, then deployed the mod.
TLDR: You shouldn't need to compress the folder back into a zip if you place the main folder directly into the Mods folder. The Custom Paintings-533-... folder shouldn't be necessary.

Note that some art will show in a different orientation at different locations in-game. This is what we in the gaming business call "reusing assets cause we lazy."

Do you mean putting the final zip folder into the extracted folder then copying it to the SMF Mod folder? Because I tried putting the edited extracted folder into the mods folder and it showed this

(edited my original post cause it sounded like globbedy-glook.)
If you're installing the mod by placing it in SMF's Mods folder, then you place the folder that has its content manifest.json immediately inside of it. The Mod content cannot be read if it's not extracted.

Followed all the steps but when I compressed it back to a zip folder and tried imporing it to framework it says it doesn't seem like a mod folder
