Can you make a version of the Repeat Offender with cheats enabled? I only ask this as my save was corrupted cause of the stupid memory access violation bs, I'd like to just get my stats back to where they were and my cash as well. Rip my gun collection though :(
All cheats are enabled in the "Legacy Edition" download. This edition keeps the cheats and terrrorist attacks and stuff from the OG game. Cheats were disabled in the main remaster to make it a little tougher.
Yes, I am using the Legacy Edition but none of the keybinds that work in the original game function in this version. I was just wondering how to utilize the cheats whilst playing, because nothing seems to work.
Q.) How do I run the mod? A.) Download the zip. Extract the zip file cntents (1 folder) anywhere. Open the folder. Double-Click the EXE. Windows might prompt you to install legacy components. Go ahead and do it. The game should launch if running Windows 10 or 11.
Q.) Why is the resolution locked? No 4k support? A.) Because of the HUD overhaul. It becomes unreadable at UHD resolutions. The old resolutions have been scrapped for the same reason. The new HUD will look wonky. If you don't have a monitor or a TV that supports 1920x1080, I feel bad for you... seriously
Q.) Can you make a version that...? or Will there be a version that...? A.) No. The remaster is complete. Please don't ask for custom versions. I've moved on to other projects and don't have the time.
Q.) I get white textures, white boxes, or a white screen! A.) The game uses DGVoodoo to render old Directx. If your video card is not compatible with DGVoodoo, these white effects will occur. Hopefully an update to DGVoodoo in the future will include your card.
Q.) Can you make inmates/gangs/guards stop doing XYZ? it's annoying! A.) No. That's part of the original gameplay, which was not touched in the remaster. Go to Mdickie.com and download the OG game. It will do the same thing. I did not make this game. I just remastered it with new textures and performance etc.. The oeiginal gameplay mechanics are untouched. Even the OG bugs were left alone.
Q.) Why do I keep getting my ass kicked? A.) Because you're too busy throwing punches instead of building up your guy's stats, Lay low at first, your guy's weak and dumb. That's why inmates harrass you. Build speed to about 68-70 early so you can run from fights and guards. Once you can outrun everyone easily, now work on strength. You'll start knocking guys down in a few shots. Use a power attack by pressing RUN and ATTACK while holding WALK in the direction of your opponent.
Q.) How do I fill the sanity meter so my guy stops going into a rage? A.) Sit in the Day Room and watch TV. Answering phones here can also raise the meter if your family calls. Consume beer, drugs, cigarettes, though these drop your health.
Q.) How do I make stuff in the workshop? A.) Build your strength and intellect each to 75, then sit at a workbench to start making the item. You will be paid upon item completion. You're supposed to leave the item on the table ... but...
Will there be a version with less gang in fighting bc the game runs like a dream but every time i join a gang a member will start ramdom beef with me over haveing beef with one of their non gang friends it kinda sucks but the game is fun just hard to stay in a gang
Can you make a version without this stupid game pausing dialogues, they ruin everything, i fight and some dumb idiot comes to me and start talking and while im paused degenerative warden comes to me and grab because of this idiotic dialogues
This is a modded remaster of an old MDickie game. The dialogue during fights is in the OG game from 2006. That's how the game plays. The dialogue is part of the game. It's supposed to annoy you. If I took out the dialogue, people would complain that I changed the gameplay.
I would love to play the mod, but when I tried to, it didn't even run, giving me the error message: "Memory Violation". I swapped the DGVoodoo 86X files with the 64X files, and it then gave me the message: "Unable to set graphics mode". Can you make a 64X version? I would probably be able to play the game, and this comment would become obsolite, allowing me to give my actual unimportant opinion about the game.
If you can't do that, then how do I fix this issue? (Reminder, this is before the game even gets opened when I get this error message)
EDIT: Please respond, I really don't know if I could fix the issue myself.
This is an unusual issue so I'll try to help as best I can. The game runs well on other computers so the issue is not in the game's code. A 64 bit version would neither be possible nor would it fix this issue. Things to try... First, the game is locked at 1920x1080 resolution. If your screen does not support this resolution, the game will throw this error. Play the game on a screen that can support this resolution. Next, remove all the DLL files from the game's directory. It should run but gameplay will be unbearably slow so don't start a game, just see if it loads the main menu. This eliminates DGVoodoo as a possible cause. If it loads, then DGVoodoo is causing the error. If not, Try updating graphics drivers Go into the game's data folder and delete the Options dat file Go into each slot folder and make sure only an empty "photos" folder is in each. This should run if all is compatible and you're running Win10 or 11. Try running it in administrator mode but this shouldn't be necessary if you run the exe from a folder on your desktop. Try a friend's laptop, it should work. Head over to Mdickie's site and download the OG game. See if it runs or throws the same error. I didn't change anything in the OG except made it support 1920x1080 fullscreen. Some graphics systems just don't work with DGVoodoo (yet), it gets updated. Some just can't run these ancient games. There's not much else I can do. The issue isn't in the game's code nor can code fix the issue.
Would like an original+ version where the only changes are qol/performance fixes, legacy edition still changes too much in the game. most the stuff ruins the original charm
You are in the minority. Makes no sense. Why remaster only half of it? An entirely new version to maintain with features stripped away? "Announcing a NEW, stripped down version with fewer updates than the others!" LOL. This remaster adds charm that the OG game lacked. Much more detail, modern, and sleeker. This kind of remaster is exactly what this game needed.
Because some people just want to play the base game without people adding to or changing MDickie's vision, but since that version is completely broken, there is difficulty. You could add least make a separate thing that's just the vanilla game + fixes. Why are you against giving people more options? I appreciate the work you've done to add fixes, but changing MDickie's original game dialogue for example isn't anything anyone even asked for. I just don't think it'd hurt to have a vanilla + fixes mod, it'd only give more people options for what they want and idk why you'd be against it.
You miss the point of this remaster entirely. This is redone how I would have done it. It's my take on Hard Time. I have had nothing but positive comments on Steam forums, Facebook, and Youtube of how well put together and how well done this mod is. Other comments were to get it working correctly. This is MY version of Hard Time, not MDickie's. It's "Repeat Offender," NOT the OG game. It wasn't meant to be the OG game. It was meant to stand out as it's own version. Which it does. The Legacy Edition only exists for those that liked the old names and "terrorist attacks" because you can't use power outages and terror attacks in one version without scrapping the ability to get sick. 600+ downloads and you are the only one to say anything. That's hardly a majority of what people want. You also don't seem to understand the work involved in maintaining yet another version. Ask MDickie to make the OG game with fixes. I wanted to make the game look how I would have done it.
It's not a remaster if you intentionally want to go away from the game's original vision, it's more like an expansion at that point. I can't even imagine a company like Nintendo doing a remaster just to change everything people loved, that's not what a remaster is. A shame a mod that includes fixes is in the hands of such an egotistical modder that puts their mod above the very game that's being modded, not even caring enough to fix the old classic. So disrespectful to MDickie.
Yeah, I would have also preferred a version where the dialogue doesn't sound like it was written by a five year old with anti-social personality disorder. Honestly the original dialogue was many times better.
Remaster: To improve the fidelity or quality of something old. This is, by definition, a remaster. What's so wrong with a new take on an old classic? What is so egotistical about "redoing" a game in one's own vision? it's harmless I assure you. It was a fun project and has it's own charm. It IS a "mod" too right? Don't Mods change things? It is on a MOD site... right? There is absolutely nothing wrong with what I did here. Most people that commented say it's a well-put-together mod, feels like the OG but with better graphics, etc. Read the Steam forums in the Hard Time discussion. Search for this on Reddit. I posted a couple times and got comments. Read comments on youtube. You are in the minority here fella. People really like this. Of all the downloaders who are enjoying, why are you attacking this? It IS free after all. Don't play it then. Disrespectful? Funny, Mat thanked me for doing this after I emailed him the download link. Ask him yourself. He told me he was hoping to remake Hard Time from scratch next year. I showed this to MDickie, so, it doesn't disrespect him. The code is open source as well. Nothing was done here without respect and integrity. I did all this work out of sheer passion for the game. How dare you call it disrespectful just because I didn't redo the original game? Because I didn't do the enormous job of updating all textures for 1080p detail, drawing in details for each one. resetting all code back to original to incorporate the new fixes AGAIN. Then maintain the new version. You have NO idea what goes into doing what you're asking. Isn't MDickie to be the one that handles his own OG version? You are the egotistical one who wants his own version his own way. No gratitude for something someone did out of passion and shared it with you for free. Ungrateful. I never disrespected you. I don't appreciate you calling me egotistical just because I don't have the time to put into yet another version that only a small minority ever said anything about. You clearly don't understand what goes into doing this. Good day.
Aren't people in prisons immature and anti-social??? It's prison! In America, people talk like that in prison. Several of the terms and phrases used in the dialogue were taken from popular prison movies. in fact, the "lights out" sound is straight from Shawshank Redemption. You are in prison as a repeat offender on an island. The worst of the worst are here. Anti-social morons. Thanks for pointing out how realistic the dialogue is.

It's an 18 year old 32 bit game.

I am using cheats just fine here
