Now with grunt customization!




--Description--
A mod to play through the campaign as a grunt with Covenant allies. All allies and enemies have been swapped and equipped with appropriate weapons.

Elites are now Spartans.
Grunts are now male Marines.
Jackals are now female Marines.
Hunters are now Jorge.
Drones are now Marines with jetpacks.
Brutes are now ODSTs.

Currently affects the first six missions. Will be updated as I complete and test each mission. Each mission I upload will have been tested to confirm it is possible to complete on Legendary difficulty.

--Installation--
1. Go to <MCC Install Location>\haloreach\maps.

2. Rename the following files as such:

  • m10.map to m10-original.map (Winter Contingency)
  • m20.map to m20-original.map (ONI: Sword Base)
  • m30.map to m30-original.map (Nightfall)
  • m35.map to m35-original.map (Tip of the Spear)
  • m45.map to m45-original.map (Long Night of Solace)
  • m50.map to m50-original.map (Exodus)

3. Extract the maps from this mod to the maps folder.

4. Done!

--Grunt Customization--
As of r16, you can now customize your grunt's armour!

Mask:
Choose the base variant of any helmet for the normal mask, or any non-base variant for the spec ops/heavy mask.

Backpack:
The backpack your grunt wears depends on your chest armour.

Default backpack:
  • Default
  • HP/Halo
  • Tactical/Recon
  • UA/Base Security (W)

Armoured backpack:
  • UA/Counterassault
  • UA/ODST
  • COLLAR/Grenadier
  • COLLAR/Grenadier (UA)
  • UA/Base Security

Major/spec ops backpack:
  • Tactical/LRP
  • Tactical/Patrol
  • UA/Multi-Threat (W)
  • UA/Multi-Threat

(The chest pieces not listed here do work as well. But I don't have them unlocked. So I wasn't able to test what they change to.)

Helmet:
Equip any utility to put a helmet on your grunt. Don't equip any utility to go helmetless.

--Known Issues--
Global issues:
  • Vehicles are not swapped. If I can figure out how to implement this without causing issues, I will do so.
  • Getting hijacked as a grunt causes the player to lose control of their control of their character unless they are killed, forcing you to load from a checkpoint or restart.
  • Having the vehicle you are in be destroyed does not kill you. (Not a significant issue. You can still exit the vehicle.)
  • Armor lock and drop shield do not work as a grunt. While using them, you will just stand in place doing nothing.
  • Elites' arms go a bit wonky when they get on some vehicle turrets.
  • If you send out a decoy, it will not disappear until you send out another decoy. Outside of that, it functions as intended; so it's not a major issue.

m10 issues:
  • You and most of your team do not spawn in the falcons.
  • Going too far ahead of your team at the beginning of the mission can cause them to become stuck behind a door and unable to join you for the majority of the mission. (They will start moving once the falcon that's supposed to drop you off goes in for a landing.)
  • Carter starts A-posing and becomes stuck on the falcon that carries you to the base mid-mission.
  • Setting Jorge to be a hunter caused the game to not load the mission. So I made him a zealot instead.
  • I originally gave zealot Jorge a plasma turret as a weapon. But he didn't seem to know how to fire it.

m30 issues:
  • Female marines caused the game to crash on this mission for some reason. So jackals are militia members instead.
  • The Jorge-hunters couldn't use his turret properly in this mission. So they got plasma turrets instead.

m35 issues:
  • There's a spartan near the end of the mission that doesn't sit in the Shade turret properly.
  • Your grunt uses the jetpack like a surfboard. (It's still functional though).

m45 issues:
  • Hunter Jorge doesn't seem to know how to shoot. (He'll still melee though.)
  • I wanted to swap the sabres with seraphs; but the game doesn't seem to allow the player to spawn in anything but a sabre at that point. Anything else, you just spawn in space and die.
