Due to the current.... global crisis, I've had to put this mod on hold for a bit. To my surprise, eating toilet roll to survive gives you severe malnutrition, and as such my brain doesn't think-bit proper good like.
Joking aside, the mod will be on hold for a while due to the continuing updates from 343i, the lack of updates on the tools I use to modify the game, and other amazing mods coming out. Like, have you seen that Eternal mod? Goddamn son. Oh, not to forget my personal health isn't quite doing too well. Can't forget that.
I don't really have a date for when this mod will be continued as despite what the voices in my head tell me, I AM NOT the omnigod who created this reality, and as such I cannot change the current circumstances. Should anyone wish to pick up this mod in my absense, I 100% permit it. All I've done is modify existing files within Bungie's beautiful game, and as such its not my place to claim ownership over it.
Cheers peeps.
For those of you who are wondering what tool I use to do these things, I download the in-development branches of Assembly from the XboxChaos github then compile them myself. If you are looking to get into modding MCC, or any Halo game on the PC for that matter, I strongly recommend Assembly. Being able to edit the game as its running, "poking" to memory, means you can fine-tune things more effectively and easily. I look forward to seeing the creations put forth by those of you interested in modding the game.
I feel that in an attempt to avoid similarities with Vadam's mod you went too far in many places.I honestly don't know what possessed you into changing Carter and making energy swords red but whatever, your vision, who am i to judge? I feel that while Vadam's mod is loved there are many glaring features such as the disgusting uniformity and washing down of covenant designs. Most wouldn't care if your mod was similar to his as it may give players the option to enjoy the experience without some of his more divisive artistic choices.
Food for thought I may just be talking out of my ass, I have very little experience with modding
The goal with the red energy sword was to issue it to "spec ops" units as far as the story went, not as in spec ops elites. There's an energy sword in halo lore known as the Bloodblade. See source: https://halo.fandom.com/wiki/Bloodblade I hadn't intended for it to appear in every mission. As far as I'm aware, it doesn't appear in Sword Base.
As far as Carter went.. it was half an experiment and half a bug. The way models work in this game is a little clunky. Each model has a bunch of parts that can be switched between. Say helmets. Each helmet variant has a number tied to it, and the active helmet can be changed using said number in the model's definition. I had wanted to try to give him a variant of his helmet available to the player, but messed up quite thoroughly in the process. Decided to roll with it, see what people thought.
Whether you know about modding or not doesn't matter. User opinions count regardless of experience or knowledge. Thank you.
Really looking for this mod. The ones by Vaadam is good but he remove or change some of the distinct features that made Reach good like: DMR, the variety of Elite Armor... Anyway, stay healthy!
Really loving your take on Halo Reach - especially the changes to the atmosphere such as with the stormy Winter Contingency and the added spartans of ONI Sword Base. I'm looking forward to whatever changes you might have in the future, if you do indeed intend to continue your fine work. Otherwise, hoping you stay safe out there. :)
Hello, im going to try the mod, it seems good. Can i ask if you can create a download link like in mega or something else in order to get a faster download?
As a complete noob concerning Assembly, I love the atmospheric change you did to Winter Contingency. I prefer another mod (Ruby's Rebalanced) for the gameplay, so I want to know how i could change the weather myself to insert it into the already modded map file via Assembly to have the best of both worlds. Can you help me?
I had to import the fog, some of the environment models, the skybox and a bunch of other stuff from Nightfall. It took like 8-9 hours to tune the fog in order for it to look like night. Thats how Bungie obtained the darkness and such; fog.
Already, this is looking very impressive. However, one thing I do suggest is that we stick with having the crosshair at the lowered position, rather than at center. One of the biggest mistakes that 343 Industries did was centering the crosshairs. Bungie very deliberately placed the crosshairs lower as the series progressed, since it gives players much better situational awareness, and the ability to take in the epic scenery. We honestly don't need to look at our feet that much. XD
That would be one of my goals, yes. There were plenty more Spartan IIIs on Reach than the game reflects. They'll obviously be a fair bit weaker than Noble Spartans, as Noble were the only ones with the Mjolnir shield system within the Spartan III program besides the ehm.... spooky ones.
Sorry to ask but any chance that if you do add new Spartans that one of them can be Rosenda or designed after her?
She was originally going to be a member on Noble Team alongside Spartan Thom back when Noble Team had 8 members, she was cut and relegated in the lore as a possible replacement for Emile if Noble Team was assigned to combat Insurrectionists, while on the opposite spectrum Thom was changed to be the previous Noble 6 who died, you can see him in the deliver hope trailer where his armor is a white default Noble 6.
The most I could do is a cameo of said character I'm afraid. No voice lines exist for the character, nor for other characters acknowledging her. As a result, I would have to borrow lines from the female UNSC Army troopers you encounter.
Saying that, I'll certainly keep the suggestion in mind. I'm tempted to have the player encounter other Spartan teams in the New Alexandrea mission, maybe find a way for them to join the player's fireteam, board the falcon etc.
Oh for sure, I realize it would only be a voiceless "cameo" and there isn't too much room for what you could do, just a suggestion as a fun fan nod that some fans might catch.
Maybe making her "immortal" like Noble Team Spartans could be a small thing to make the cameo unit a little bit more special, not sure if the new Spartans you potentially add would be immune to dying but if you were this would be the exception.
Regardless, looking forward to whatever you do, really enjoying the mod so far.
Majority of them won't be. Won't have shields either. They'll essentially be beefier marines who join your fireteam, etc. Then probably die to something horrible.
As far as Rosenda goes, I'm considering having her be part of the squad you have to rescue at the hospital. If I can find a way to branch off the scripting of the mission, I'd have her enter the player's fireteam and help for the remainder of the mission. I'm not 100% on that though, because I am considering something with Jorge in that mission, hint hint.
Interesting plans, while this mod is of course a little iffy canon wise, this being a campaign overhaul mod I really like what your doing with the gameplay aspects such as the extra Spartans, I was actually just playing New Alexandria a couple days ago and the Hospital bit I presume you mean does have a female marine talking over in the coms and dialogue so in theory replacing her with "Rosenda" would work well.
So wait does Jorge not die or something? Curious about how that will work in regards to cutscene/story integration, an interesting concept regardless.
A squad appears at the very end of the hospital to be rescued. If you're quick enough, you can save 'em, then escort them to the exit. Ideally, I could replace the female marine that spawns there with Rosenda. This would allow the dialoge to work too, as it comes from that very NPC.
As far as Jorge goes, I always felt the way he died was... stupid. The Spartan II supersoldier staying behind and throwing the cheap Spartan III out of the ship? Should've been the other way about. Anyway, I want to play about with that, and the cutscene. Maybe have him come out with you, or maybe continuing the remainder as Jorge somehow. Its up in the air for now though, I've only just finished the basic interation of Sword Base.
I love the armor tweaks you did with Carter and Kat, although Kat's edit doesn't seem to work with cutscenes. Are you planning on editing more of noble team like that? Otherwise this mod along with the no crosshairs mod are a perfect match. Definitely looking forward to the updates whenever they are released!
Yes, I have had to revert my changes on Kat for now. For some reason, the colours of her armour invert in cutscenes. Whilst I can change what armour parts she has, I cannot change the colours easily at all.
As far as the others go, I think Emile and Jun are amazing as they are. Jorge cannot be edited sadly as he is a completely separate model from the rest, being a Spartan II.

Due to my health, I've put the mod on hold. I would thoroughly like to continue working on this mod once I recover.
