Due to whatever 343 does when they push updates to MCC, the mod always breaks whenever MCC gets an update even when that update has nothing to do with Halo 2 singleplayer.
If you get crashes or see that the mod no longer works and the "Last Updated" date for this mod is before the date of the most recent MCC update, the mod just needs to be updated with the latest update's version of the singleplayer maps. No need to search for fixes or be worried something is wrong with your install.
Random question. Out of all the *Invincible Marines* mods, you are the only one who actually keeps their mod updated. The individual who uploaded all of the other mods seems to be inactive. Would you be willing to do the same treatment to Halo 3 for example as you did 2 and make the marines once again unkillable for the latest update?
However, I wouldn't mind doing it myself if I knew how. I have coding experience but no modding experience so I am not sure how difficult the process is or to really even go about it. If you would be willing to put together a simple document saying how you did it, that would also be awesome!
Actually just taught myself how to do it thanks to the assembly instructions you provided, so big thank you for that!! I am uploading a working Halo 3 version now and plan on uploading one for Halo 4, and Reach here soon.
Although how did you prevent the AI from being infected by the infection forms?
I didn't actually prevent them from being infected in 2 as I did not find a tag for it. It's possible that there is a tag somewhere that prevents infection in 3. I haven't had much time recently to work on mods so keeping this one updated is most of what I can do at the moment, so thank you for creating updated versions of reach and 3 invincible marines. I will link them in the description of this page.
I really enjoy the mod thank you a lot. It makes it possible to hear all the funny things the npc lines.
The recent update (december 2022) broke the mod however, i'm not sure what changed but i tried multiple times to reinstall the game and put the mod in, the game crashes while loading the map, it was working fine prior to that update tho.
Updated the mod to fix the crash, it's just something to do with MCC updates changing something that requires singleplayer maps to be from the latest update (even if the file itself has not changed at all).
Idk if anyone else have this problem but I'm playing on the original Halo 2 with the mods, the first mission using the mod was alright but from later missions it keeps crashing the game
By "original Halo 2" do you mean Halo 2 Vista (not MCC)? I haven't tested it with that version of the game so I'm not sure if it's compatible. As for the crash, if you're playing on MCC and having it happen that's because MCC got updated in December 2022 and broke the mod.
Thanks for this. Would you be willing/able to show what you changed in the files to make allies invulnerable? I was hoping to add this to the ODST skin mod for Halo 2 but both replace the map files.
The way the mod works is by changing an HLMT tag for ally NPCs in each map. If you want to be able to do this yourself, I used the Assembly modding tool and performed the following:
Click Tools > Map Compressor and select the map file/folder containing multiple map files and select "Decompress"/"Decompress All"
Click File > Open File... and select a decompressed map file
Click "Tags" in the top left, then find the "hlmt" tag (you can search for it) and click the arrow next to the to expand it
NPCs have names starting with "objects\characters", so select the type of NPC you want to make immortal (for example "objects\characters\marine\marine" refers to standard male marine NPCs)
In the newly opened tab, search "die" at the top and select the checkbox for "Cannot Die From Damage" in the "Flags" section
Click "Save" at the bottom of the window (or at the bottom left and then click "Save Changes in All Open Tags")
Repeat steps 4 - 6 for each type of NPC you want to make immortal
