There's a problem, I find it odd that no one has told you about it until now.

The NPC “Byscilla” comes out invisible, as if she has no textures, and her avatar (the portrait of her that comes out when you talk to her) doesn't come out either, a purple background comes out instead.

This happens in the new directory, but not in the old one, that is, if I put the textures in:

    X:\Users\MyUser\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\Settings\

So Byscilla is invisible, but if I put the textures in the old path:

    X:\Steam\steamapps\common\Grim Dawn\Settings

Byscilla will work correctly, so I’m asking: are the textures still loading from the old path? Because if they are, then the problem is that Byscilla doesn’t work in the new path, for some strange reason.

If the textures no longer work in the old path, then your textures weren’t actually working (the original Byscilla textures were being loaded, which is why it looked like it was working). That would mean there’s a problem with Byscilla’s files.

I hope I explained myself clearly, English isn’t my native language, but to summarize: Byscilla works in the old path but not in the new one. If the new path no longer loads textures, then it’s showing me the original textures, which is why it works. That, as I said, means there’s a problem with Byscilla’s textures and that’s why they’re not loading in the new path.

Interesting. I actually converted every single .dds back to their original format, and wrapped them in .tex. I have a custom program I use to check ALL dds files for errors in their headers and such so if one is broken I would know. I wonder if it just is not scaling properly on her for some reason. Thank you for pointing this out. I also found that .7z format compression can damage files sometimes upon extraction. Try extracting the big file once again and overwriting what you have and let me know if it persists.

It has happened to me as well. Her belt blade is floating in mid air and the npc marker is above her head but no model. Not a deal breaker as you can still interact.  Reminds me of the crypt floor texture issue from previous releases. Wonder if it's similar to that hiccup.

Yes, it's exactly as @Tallencor01 says, you can see the sword floating and you know she's there because of that. You can interact with her normally, but her body isn't visible, and her avatar (her portrait?) doesn't show up either, though you talk to her normally. I've been ignoring it because the texture improvement overall is really good, but I thought it would be a good idea to mention it.

It's strange that this happens in one directory but not the other. In the game's directory, in the "Settings" folder (with a capital "S", I didn't try lowercase, but I swear this wasn't a problem before, I used to write it with a lowercase "s" and it still worked, in the main game directory, of course), it works correctly. However, in the new directory under "documents/my games/etc," that's where it doesn't work. I've verified this 100%, and as you can see, there are more users having this issue.

I guess as long as it works in one directory, it's fine, but clearly there's an issue with Byscilla's texture, a very strange one, because for it to work in one directory and not the other is quite odd 😅

It actually did not even work for me in old directory anymore at all. Using steam version. Strange. Maybe it was bugged and they fixed it XD.

Well, clearly something’s going on. I mean, maybe the old directory, the one in the main game folder, doesn’t actually work anymore. If Byscilla looks fine in the old directory, it could be because it’s loading the original textures, and that’s why she looks fine. But when I load the textures in the new directory, she looks broken because it's actually loading the custom textures there, and Byscilla has an issue with her textures. I’m not sure if I’m explaining myself clearly.

In fact, I don’t see any screen in the loading images that says “GimteX.” Didn’t you have an image with that text added to confirm if the textures were loading properly? I haven’t seen that image in either the main (old) directory or the new one since the latest version. In the previous one, everything was fine.

I removed the load screen before because it only worked like 50% of the time anyways since there are several load screen files. Short of repacking the .arc which is a nightmare, not much I can do about it at this time.

Hey, forget what I told you about Byscilla looking fine in the old directory (the game’s directory) and not in the new one. It turns out that the old directory still had the previous version of your texture mod, and in that one, Byscilla does appear correctly. But in your current version, Byscilla is invisible, doesn’t matter which directory, she’s invisible both in the game directory (old directory) and in the new one in my games/grim dawn/etc.

It’s a problem with Byscilla’s textures. As a recommendation, I’d suggest making a patch for us to test, and if it works, keep that patch as the solution, this way you don’t have to upload a very large file again.

Sorry for the confusion about the directory 😅 but it's confirmed that Byscilla has an issue regardless of that, since another user also sees her as invisible. Others simply haven't said anything, but it's probably happening to everyone with the new version, I suppose.

No confusion ty. I will not be able to get to it for awhile sadly. Sometimes with so many files, I do everything right and a compression issue happens still. Glad its only 1!

I’d like to make a request, if possible. Since it looks like you’re going to take a while to fix the problem, would it be possible to get a temporary download of the texture files for Byscilla from the previous version where this NPC’s textures worked? Just Byscilla’s textures, since they’re small in size. I already deleted the previous version of your mod to save space and I can’t access older versions in your mod downloads 😅

Just to comment, the Byscilla from v6 that you have restored works correctly, so you can corroborate 200% that indeed Byscilla has some problem in the current v7 of the mod, some problem with her textures, both of the NPC and her portrait, which is also invisible.

Thanks for restoring v6, in my case it's just to restore NPC Byscilla, otherwise v7 looks wonderfully good hehe. (づ ̄ 3 ̄)づ

Thanks for the 4x unarchive. Is the issue for all upscale versions or just 4x. Is it possible to just get a download zip of Byscilla files needed to overwrite V7 with V6 because I did not see one. Downloading 12GB just for a small portion would take a long time and extra space. Hopefully once the fix is done in the future you could upload a separate updated hotfix file of Byscilla instead of having to redownload the entire archive again.

I haven't gotten to Byscilla in this playthrough yet but is an alternate fix to temporarily rename/remove byscilla01a_dif.tex and byscilla01a_glo.tex in the meantime. I assume this would revert her model back to the original non-upscaled state.

Onilink146 If Grim Dawn didn’t use such an infuriatingly proprietary and inconsistent texture system—and if I wasn’t dealing with thousands of files where the tiniest oversight can slip through—or if Nexus hadn’t blocked my original auto-updater EXE that would’ve handled these placements automatically, we wouldn’t even be having this issue. 😅
Unfortunately, that’s the reality we’re stuck with. I’ll investigate what’s going on with Byscilla specifically—thanks for catching it. Will update whole file when done.

Thanks so much for creating and always improving this mod! Recently I tried every single ARPG and no matter what none come close to what Grim Dawn offers. This update GrimTex with the new GrimShade has fixed the only problem Grim Dawn had. It's graphics are showing the age of the game but this mod completely revitalizes that!

Also, one caveat as pointed out from another comment - I also had to disable the SSAO in Reshade. I don't think that works for some individuals including myself. I have AMD CPU and AMD GPU.

Would this also work along side the Grimarillion mod?

I love your work, and have it installed on a few games. But Grimarillion is just so good..

Bit late of a reply just to answer this for anyone else. Yes this will work as it is not a mod it is a texture pack while Grimarillion is an actual mod so use both and go nuts. I use both and the game is awesome.

So I'm not entirely sure... since you updated the mod, do I only need the 0.7 vanilla pack or do I also need the other one that is still 0.6 for all the textures in the expansions as well?

the 7.0 version is the better version but there is one known bug for an NPC at this time. Not game breaking, but I have not had time to fix yet and reupload.

Can Confirm that with a Radeon 6700xt The SSAO makes the UI semi transparent. Tried with all driver related visual effects off and on Inc Freesync. Everything else works as intended. Thanks for the update! Maybe a fidelity Guru can understand why it's only happening on some configs.

Yeah, I downloaded and setup everything from this mod page. It doesn't happen everywhere so it's not a deal breaker. I also had the transparent menu issue that someone else mentioned but turning off SSAO fixed that.

Great mod, I used it for a year now. I saw there was an update and I read your changes on one of the recent post.

Previously the texture files for Steam version were in Steam\steamapps\common\Grim Dawn\settings (with lowercase s) with the subfolders of creature/item/level art/terrain textures. Are we to delete this folder and put the new textures in the new location Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\Settings instead now. If so, are there other files to delete. I don't have the original zip and the old 4x has been archive so I cannot preview which files outside of settings.

Edit: I tested in both locations and 4x texture seems to work fine for the steam version. "My Games" location worked with Settings and in the steam location settings worked. I tested comparing a before and after screenshot on top of seeing the GPU VRAM increase.

Some of the textures were not in the other Grim Tex iterations. I also remastered all of the flora and fauna in the game with a regenerative Ai. They look way better imo. I ran each texture through several models.

Just started Grim Dawn, and I'm a little confused here on how to install. Your instructions say to make "C:\Users\YourWindowsUsername\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\Settings", but that already exists and has a couple files in it, and also to make "C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Grim Dawn\settings" so I did that. Didn't seem to change anything when I put the files in the Documents location. Which folder do the files go in exactly? Sorry if I'm just being dumb here.

C:\Users\YourWindowsUsername\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\Settings сюда надо разархивировать просто.больше ничего не надо. настроек тоже не обнаружил никаких,но текстуры изменились слегка,четкость появилась,особенно при приближении. не тестировал еще в самой игре

      - To install, create a new folder in this directory. "C:\Users\YourWindowsUsername\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\Settings". Name the folder "Settings" it is case sensitive, it is a hidden override folder for grim dawns vanilla assets.

      - Inside this folder, place the extracted contents of the mod. They should have paths like this:

      C:\Users\YourWindowsUsername\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\Settings\creatures
      C:\Users\YourWindowsUsername\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\Settings\items
      C:\Users\YourWindowsUsername\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\Settings\level art
      C:\Users\YourWindowsUsername\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\Settings\terrain textures
