Update available!. Simply follow the new install instructions and enjoy using this mod for Grim Dawn V1.1.9.8!
Update: New version of this preset released! I decided I wanted to update this mod to optimize it and bring it back to its roots: increase visual quality at optimized performance and balance the game's colors so the overall game feel is more dark and less gray. An additional bonus with this edition is no clipping with UI unlike the previous versions. The new version uses optimized shaders that are successors to the qUINT and PD80 shaders.
Note: I collected this set of shaders by hand and customized settings in them. Do not reset any of the settings as the game will look weird!
How to increase my FPS? The truth is: only quite powerful PCs can run the full mod. You may have to disable one or two shaders to get a better performance and/or tinker with in-game settings. If you suffer great FPS loss, the first option you should disable is '"RadiantGI". This can provide a 20-30 fps boost. If you still need more FPS, the second option is to disable "GloomAO". Keep in mind that both of these provide major boosts to visual detail and you will lose out on better looks by disabling these. At minimum, all other shaders should stay enabled if you wish to use this mod.
Other ways to increase FPS Try reducing the resolution you play at and graphics settings in general. It is recommended to turn off anti-aliasing (provided by the mod) and triple buffering.
Using SSAO with more FPS It is possible to reduce some of the quality of SSAO to gain more FPS. In the RadiantGI options, reduce the resolution slider until you gain more FPS. Note that this reduces quality of the SSAO.
Hey, thanks for this. Really makes a massive difference. Could I ask what UI you are using to make the action bar at the bottom have skulls etc? Looks nice.
Got a question about v2 of this vs v3 as its a bit unclear.
Is V3 the 'better' version with better quality shaders, or is it better in terms of less quality but easier to run/be handled by pc (making V2 best visual quality).
In my opinion, v2 was prettier than v3. But for v3, I took a chance to get rid of some issues with v2 that I disliked, such as some effects altering the UI and performance. So v3 was my vision for a 'better' version, but it looks slightly different. It should perform better in terms of fps though.
I don't know if I'm misunderstanding or blind but for the "ReShadeGraphicOverhaul.ini" is it supposed to be all unchecked? Like I can't tell if the reshade is on since nothing is checked. Please let me know if it means that it's on I've never used reshade before. Sorry if this is a dumb question. T^T
If everything is unchecked it means no effects are on, so you will not see the desired effects. You can try enabling them to get your desired look. But, it is likely it didn't load the premade config properly.
Is it normal for Reshade.log to have 11 "WARN" sections and end with saying " INFO uninstalling 40 hooks" before " INFO finished exiting"? I see reshade load when i boot up the game and i can hit the home key and check a bunch of boxes but there is zero change in how the game looks. Im unclear if im supposed to do anything at this point. Some of the boxes are checked by default so i left them alone and didnt check any other boxes. I know in many other older games reshades do jack squat... I guess im wondering if this is one of them.
If someone says "just follow the instructions" on the mod page well that doesnt work, i had to troubleshoot a direct3dll.dll problem in order to get the mod to work. The post that helped is only a few posts below mine in november by Martinboy1974, thanks. Perhaps update the installation instructions on the mod page with more detail? I noticed this same problem dating back quite a few months by other people as well.
Hello, Could someone explain to me in more detail how to do this:Open ReShade by pressing HOME and configure akey to toggle the effects to see the difference.Thank you very much
This looks great already even without the GloomAO.fx shader. I am getting compilation errors while loading.
21:09:04:303 [ 2180] | ERROR | Failed to compile '...\Grim Dawn\reshade-shaders\Shaders\GloomAO.fx': ...\Grim Dawn\reshade-shaders\Shaders\GloomAO.fx(1431, 1): error X3020: 'V__texColorsSSDO': cannot sample from texture that is also used as render target in the same pass ...\Grim Dawn\reshade-shaders\Shaders\GloomAO.fx(1461, 15): error X3067: ambiguous function 'TAA_SSDO'
I also get the "cannot sample from" error when compiling RadiantGI but without the "ambiguous function" piece so it compiles with a warning.
I don't see solutions to this from Google; any ideas?
Edit: I found new versions of GloomAO and RadiantGI on their github and installed those to resolve the compilation errors. Had you edited any settings within them? I tried diffing the files but I wasn't sure which were from new versions and which were your edits.
I have installed Grim Dawn 1.1.9.8. I have downloaded Reshade. There is also Reshade Full Addon support, but I guess the first one is the correct one. I installed it pointing it to Grim Danw x64 exe and DirectX10/11/12. There is no d3d11.dll file in my Grim Dawn x64 folder, but a Direct3D.dll and a Direct3D11.dll file. I renamed Direct3D11.dll to Direct3D11.dll.bak. I then downloaded this reshade graphical overhaul mod and moved the unzipped files into the Grim Dawn x64 game folder and fired up the game. The game starts, but there is no indication that the mod is enabled and working. HOME button doesnt bring up a reshade menu. I also tried renaming dxgi.dll to d3d11.dll and that made no diffence. I then tried renaming dxgi.dll to Direct3D11.dll and that crashed my game. What am I doing wrong?
UPDATE. I moved the mod files to my x64 game folder without renaming Direct3D11.dll to Direct3D11.dll.bak and now Reshade starts up with the game and HOME button brings up Reshade menu.
I tried this (which included overriding some files as they had the same name) and it is not working. Idk whats wrong
For reference: I moved all the contnts of the extracted mod into the x64 folder where the EXE is, had to overwrite some files, and that is not working. I have not deleted or renamed anything as nothing is (as you said) called d3d11.dll
You could try: https://lib.rs/crates/reshader But I don't actively use Linux, so I can't provide much help unfortunately. Another thing you could try is running ReShade using WINE, which should work.
Just wanted to say I just double-clicked the Reshade_Setup and Wine started it right up without issue. I just had to manually choose the x64/Grim Dawn.exe and followed the rest of the description. Works so far on 1.2. Thanks, @danielzondervan. Looks great.

Thanks for your work <3

If you renamed or deleted your Direct3D11.dll file then undelete and rename it to what it was.

Edit: Nvm. Tried it and it works.
