Bring Back the Fog
A wise man once said: Turn on the fog machine!

NOTE: YouYouTheBoxx has created an in-game fog mod for GTA III and SA, it may be more to your liking rather than using ReShade, so go check it out!

This was made using San Andreas in mind, however it should work with the whole trilogy.

This mod contains a couple custom ReShade shaders + preset.

At times, the GTA "Definitive" Trilogy has no fog whatsoever. While it is cool that you can see the entire city at once, it can be somewhat weird looking without any fog. These shaders aim to alleviate that.

By default, a light amount of fog is added to distant objects. The shader will attempt to adjust the fog depending on the lightness and colors of the screen, so it will blend in better.

Sadly, the water in the game seems to not write to the depth buffer. What does this mean? It means that fog will be applied depending on whatever is behind the water, and not the water itself (this is also part of the reason why the rain looks so weird in this version of the game). It also means there's a very sharp line where the edge of the map meets the sky. I tried many things, but the best I could do in attempt to remedy this was to add a supplemental Depth of Field effect.

Both the Fog and Depth of Field effects can be toggled independently from each other, and can be adjusted to be more subtle or more intense.

INSTALLATION
1. Download and run the ReShade installer (https://reshade.me/)
2. When prompted to select the game, browse for SanAndreas.exe, this should be located in your game directory at \Gameface\Binaries\Win64\
3. Select "Direct3D 10/11/12" as the rendering API. NOTE: it may look like it's already selected. Just click on it anyway.
4. Choose any effect packages you wish. Everything we need is included in the Standard Effects package, so you may deselect everything if you want a smaller download (and don't want to add any extra effects on top).
5. If successful, close the installer.
6. Copy the contents of the mod's zip file into the same directory as you navigated to in step 2. This should overwrite ReShade.ini and ReShadePreset.ini, as well as add to the reshade-shaders folder.
7. Start the game. If installed successfully you should now be able to press the HOME key and follow (or skip) the tutorial.
8. Play the game! If you want to. Also read the usage guide below.

UNINSTALLATION
Method A:
Follow the Installation guide up to step 3. When prompted, choose "Uninstall".

Method B:
Delete all files and folders in the game's exe directory that start with "reshade" or "dxgi".

USAGE
Once installed, the shaders should *mostly* be good to go. Unfortunately, ReShade has no way of telling when you are in a menu, or where the UI elements are. I tried my best to mask the more important UI elements, but you may need to toggle the effect to use the menus or see certain text boxes. This can be done by pressing the END key. Feel free to rebind this in the settings tab of the ReShade menu.

If you wish to adjust the look, or toggle one of the effects, you may do so in the ReShade menu. You can access this by pressing the HOME key. I did not yet provide detailed explanations of what the sliders do, but they should be relatively self-explanatory by adjusting them and seeing how the visuals change.

For general ReShade usage, follow the tutorial. It provides a good explanation on how to use it. Probably. I don't actually know, I've always skipped it.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Visuals shaking/vibrating: Turn off TAA in the game's graphics settings.
