About this mod

Tuning for animal behavior and diet related mostly to domestic animals and pets.

Permissions and credits
This mod comes in two parts; they can be downloaded separately or used together to customize your game.

  • Pest Control - Cats will now hunt polecats!
  • Diet Rebalance - Domestic animals and pets will now prefer hay and/or cooked fodder first and will go for your garden as the last source of food

Updated for Game Version 0.16!
Now includes the new fish for diets along with a new version of pest control.

Pest Control: By popular request via GM's Discord, cats will now hunt polecats. This feature is exclusive to pet cats and works only when you turn on pest control for a pet cat. I limited this to just cats as otherwise cats don't serve any major purpose in your settlement, yet historically they were raised and kept for vermin control.
  • Normal with Polecat this includes all the normal hunting targets of vanilla gameplay, but adds polecats as well
  • Vermin Only this version only targets vermin creatures - rats, water voles (new water rat type animal) and polecats. Pheasants, hares and mallards are excluded.

Diet Rebalance: Due to pets eating just about everything but what you want them to animal diets have been overhauled. This will effect all animals (wild, domestic, and pets), but shouldn't cause any wild animals to starve.
  • Large Herb Animals (deer, goat, etc) will prefer animal feed and hay piles (such as on a stockpile or in a trough) as their first priority. Wild sources of food such as mushrooms, shrubs (non-redcurrant), and wild hay plants are the second priority and all player grown plants such as carrots, cabbage, etc are at the lowest priority
  • Small Herb Animals (hares, chicken, etc) have similar priority to large herb animals
  • Cats no longer prefer honey (as honey is bad for cats). Animal feed is their first priority with carcasses, meats and fish second and your cooked meals the lowest priority.
  • Meat Eaters (wolves, dogs, etc) have a slightly higher priority for animal feed with carcasses a close second, followed by meat and fish, then cooked meals as the lowest priority.
TLDR - Animals should stay out of your gardens and prioritize hay/animal feed first over other food sources if it's available.
