While playing the vanilla game I grew annoyed with some of the combat mechanics as they seemed to not make tactical sense, as well as some aspects seem decoupled when they should be all based on a core rule set. While the vanilla game values do allow for an interesting combat game, the tactical
inconsistencies were immersion disrupting for me and thus this re-balance mod was born. A more detailed discussion is in the readme. In summary this mod makes the following changes:
Re-balanced starbases to hold their own in small scale combat
- Tier 1 starbase defense module is combat equivalent to two balanced medium class ship with all mass allocated for weapons and defense modules
- Tier 2 starbase defense module is combat equivalent to two balanced large class ship with all mass allocated for weapons and defense modules
- Tier 3 starbase defense module is combat equivalent to two balanced huge class ship with all mass allocated for weapons and defense modules
Re-balanced starbase weapon and defensive modules based on ship modules
- All starbase defense module tiers have constructor costs scaled to match mass of added weapon and defense modules
- Starbase defense module combat values recalculated to match per weapon/defense module instances for ship modules
- Advanced Defense module based on Militarization Tech rather than weapon tech, since all 'starbase defense' modules add both weapons and defense capabilities
- Sensor range values recalculated based on having starbase having significantly larger sensor suite (multiple ship modules)
Physics/Logically Consistent Ship Weapon vs. Defense Rating Ratios
- Re-balanced defense values based on physics concepts for weapon and defense types
- Switched values to double with each tech tier progression to more realistically model aggressive offensive vs. defense technology competition during wartime
