I had the Itch to replay the series and trying to install the HD mod i get an error regarding the texture process; Starting FFXIII-2 HD 4GB Patch OK Starting FA Error - models\orig\chr\FA directory not found. Starting NPC Error - models\orig\chr\NPC directory not found. Starting Mon Error - models\orig\chr\Mon directory not found. Starting PC Error - models\orig\chr\PC directory not found. Starting Weapon Error - models\orig\chr\Weapon directory not found.
Same error occurring. Nothing is working. Getting tons of 'std::bad_alloc' errors and nothing is working correctly. Consider avoiding until the problem is fixed. :(
More info: log.txt looks normal, showing files uncrompressed and copied correctly. HDProjectlog shows a lot of 0 / X (example: Textures: 0 / 3 : HDProject f177.win32) Then model with error X (Error -1073741819 with model c158 ) over and over again. At this point I just end task.
I can not reproduce this error. I started with a clean install of the game (verified game files through Steam), downloaded this mod from Nexus in the event that it somehow got corrupted, and it installed without any issues (English). So I will need more information to try to understand what is happening such as:
- Do you have any mods installed - Did you try to verify the game files through Steam prior to installing. - What version of Windows are you using? (I still use Windows 10) - Do you have 20 GB of free disk space when you install? - What antivirus software are you using? Could this be preventing it from running properly? - Is your mod directory on a traditional hard drive or SSD? (shouldn't matter, but...)
Also, can you post your HDProject2.log file somewhere so I can review it.
I appreciate you getting back to us on this issue. After trying again and again, I actually think my error may be slightly different than OP, but I'm not certain.
Anyways, to answer your questions, I tried to apply the mod first by following the "Fixing and enhancing Final Fantasy XIII-2" guide found on Steam. Then I tried again with a clean install, sans any mods or tinkering. Both yielded the same results. -tried with mods, and with a fresh installation -files were verified -running windows10 -hundreds of gigs still available on HD -no antivirus software running, except the usual one built into Win10 (ran the batch file as admin) -mod files were extracted to my D:/ where steam game folders are located, but not in the game folder as per the instructions ---LINK REMOVED---- (note that I ended task before the process was finished) -as mentioned before (and not really shown in the log) almost everything was throwing a 'std::bad_alloc' error
Thanks for your dedication to the project, but I'm done with it for the moment. I just want to play the game for now :D
Edit: More clues from the CMD window that don't show up in the log:
(normal to see this I assume. It pops up several times) The system cannot find the file specified. Extracting zone z0210. Finished decrypting file.
(The following happens again and again for many of the textures) FA Textures ............................................................................................................................terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc' what(): std::bad_alloc .The system cannot find the file specified. terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc'
So while the log file doesn't tell me much, it does indicate that the install process isn't working pretty much from the beginning. You are just not getting errors, but it is not finding the matching upscaled textures so it isn't really doing anything useful. If you could, I'd like to get a copy of two of the files the mod makes and see if there is something different in your files. The two files are in your mod directory and are:
The first one is an early file that 3 textures should be replaced. In your install none of them were. The second file your install replaced 3 textures, when it should have only found 1. So looking at these file may give me a clue to what is occurring. These should be the game's original files and should match what I have with my game, but I suspect they don't for some reason.
Best of luck. Here are the two files: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MHzRIEUyRcnbnxOt4bRH1S-eR7TV_tKx/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bu4sCbcoRQkBX2DExD9O6C3V-SPUmk9U/view?usp=sharing
As expected, these files are incorrect. I have seen this happen before where all the game files are there, the sizes are correct, but the actual data in the files is wrong. When this happens, the installer can never recover as it never overwrites what it thinks is the original data from the initial install. I don't have a cause, but I can suggest a fix.
In the mod directory you will need to delete two subdirectories; the 'models' and the 'zone' folders. Just to be on the safe side, re-verify your game files through Steam, then re-run the mod. In the past this has fixed the problem.
Greetings! Thanks for the HD Mod! I just finished through 13 and ready for 13-2.
I ran into an error when unzipping with 7zip and don't want to install if files are incomplete. CRC failed :textures\z0052\T_ym_ise03.bin
I did not see anyone else post about this yet. Has the file been corrupted on site? I've re-downloaded it a few times to make sure it wasn't my connection timing out at some point.
I just downloaded the mod and it unzipped fine with 7-Zip. I know occasionally some people have trouble downloading from Nexus and by using a different browser (like Firefox) they are able to get the files correctly. Not sure if that is the problem or not, but the file here on Nexus doesn't seem to be corrupted.
The bat file seems to get stuck on updating models for some reason. I have already tried running the installer 3 times and it always gets stuck at updating models. And yes I have the 4gb patch.
I looked at the log.txt and from what I can see if it's any worry it extracted 14381 with 470 duplicates (from running the installer multiple times I guess?) and 533 files copied.
Is the issue due to being on a seperate drive or what? I noticed a couple other people had this issue so idk.
log.txt is not the right file to look at. There should be a HDProject.log file that has more information. Also, the updating models does take somewhat longer than other parts, although you should see an occasional '.' (period) as it works through the models.
Where do you have your Steam library? Just wondering if it is due to some sort of Windows security. For example, if you have your steam library in c:\program files (x86)\ it's possible that has something to do with it as Windows can restrict some access to files/directories here.
Maybe I'm a little too late to the party, however the way I got it fixed is by right clicking on the FFXIII-2 HD.bat and choosing "Run As Administrator"
No, that only works for 13, not 13-2. However, 13-2 doesn't need any special method to apply the 4gb patch as Steam doesn't check the exe file for changes, so you can use the 4gb patch right from NTCore. https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371
thanks. also im planning on using nova to install the better audio in pre-rendered cutscenes as well as several of the optional mods in the nova discord server. Will nova undo this mod?
I believe it is not a delay problem, as I left the cmd open from 16:00 until the time when I am typing my question to post here (19:22). I've already downloaded the game again, I've already corrected the files by steam and none of that solves it.
Has anyone had this problem managed to resolve it?
UPDATE: I finally managed to install the mods, I had to copy the files to the root folder of the game and so it was able to install
Is there an option for just the characters? I am playing on Steam Deck and just finished XIII with the HD Models but didnt go with the full HD patch as the creator mentioned it wouldnt really be worth it. But the models were a big improvement. So I would like to make that same change here. Any suggestions?
Edit: Nevermind this game runs like poo poo garbage on the Deck no matter what. Like down to 1 fps sometimes. Yowzers.
Unsure if you need it, but I was in the same boat as you for a while...Maybe it will help someone else with this issue:
I ended up running with proton 8.0-2 compatibility on Steamdeck and it worked WONDERS! I haven't really ventured far into the game but the initial tutorial area ran smoothly with no dips compared to stuttering adn drops to 1 FPS during the "explosions". I also have the CryoByte33 mod installed with his recommended defaults on and 4GB Vram toggle. I also switched the frame limiter to 30 fps on steamdeck for battery life.
Big thanks, even if you weren't able to do as much with this game as FFXIII, the results are still lovely 🙂
Forgive the likely stupid question; can we delete the downloaded unzipped mod folder once we've installed the mod? Since I assume the mod puts all the newly added HD files in the game's directory?
As long as you don't need or plan to make any future changes, then yes, the mod directory is no longer required. All the updated files are now within the game directory.

I don't know why I didn't think to try that but I appreciate it!
I haven't been able to play for a while but coming back to this and it working: *chef's kiss*

I've tried four times today and I can't seem to get a solution for this.
Looking at the logs, the last information I have is

Extracted 14381 files in total.
13849 files uncompressed. 532 files copied.
