NEW :
Modboro standalone update is now available. You can use this file to get the latest improvements of the Xylomod or if you don't care about the graphic changes. You may want to start a new game if you care about the card quest changes.

Modboro update changes :
  • The queen of cards quest. You will now have 10 legendary (character) cards to create through this quest which is linked to the CC club quest in a way. But to help you with this the queen of card can now be convinced to allow you to change the rules of a region. Depending on the current region the gil cost will vary or the rarity of the card she demands for it. Be advised that she gives more hints on the locations of rare and epic cards if you pay for it. Some card drops were adjuted so you won't obtain rare or epic cards from bosses.
  • Dressing and music save points. I always though that save points were tedious to apprehend. You have to stand on it, the save point tells you how to save the game every time, while you probably know intuitively the very first time, then you go to the menu and you either can or cannot save depending whether you stand correctly on it or not. I changed that so that you won't have trouble with it anymore. Now almost every save point is a dressing for all relevant characters and some save points allow to change the battle music.
  • Tweaks here and there. I tried to erase some bugs, adjust the difficulty of Iron Clad, changed some quest rewards etc...

I hope you enjoy it.

This mod is a complete overhaul that changes many aspects of the game starting with gameplay and graphics. The main idea is to improve on the already good mechanics of the game, reduce the tediousness and allow the player for more personalization, cosmetic and gameplay wise.

It uses Succession scenario as base. I edited some lines to match with it (final Ultimecia)

The mod should make the game hard but fair. Rewarding better the usage of junction preparation rather than farming.
I can't make an exhaustive list of all the changes but I'll give the main lines.

This mod changes :
  • The gameplay experience. Monsters still grow on strength with your leveling up but are locked in stat growth. You'll be able to draw and mug better spells and items on high level monsters while still getting a pretty much identical difficulty.
  • Triple Triad graphical appearance. All cards were reworked using artworks from FFVIII when possible. Some are a photoshop combination of artworks, and some are using photoshoped artworks from FFIX and XIV. (try figuring out which is which q:)
  • New recipes, shops, and prices. The main way you'll get magic spells is by refining items. It is still possible to draw but very hard for higher spells, at least for a long part of the game (until you get a high enough magic stat)
  • Reworked magic spells. Status and elemental weakness are linked. That means you'll intuitively know what status an enemy can be put to by Scanning it or just by looking at his type. (e.g. plants fear fire which is linked to the blind status)
  • Limit break changes.
  • GF growth, learning trees, compatibility mechanic and summoning utility. GF should prove much weaker early on in the game, because you start with 0 compatibility and therefore a very long summoning time. You'll need to level them up from level 1 to have access to their abilities.
  • And many small yet interesting changes in scenarization, including music changes, new rewards for quest, ubiquitous Queen of Card, etc...
This mods introduces :
  • Job changes instead of weapon remodel. You don't just change your weapon anymore, you change your entire costume and get a cool Job name along with it. It does not affect your combat abilities in any way and is purely cosmetic. (remember that for your SeeD exams).
  • Dressing and music Save points. For now, you can change battle music between Laguna's and Squall's using the save point in the entrance of the tomb of the unknown king. Dressing save points are located at every Hotel/dormitory plus some others. They allow Squall, Zell and/or Selphie to switch between the normal set of clothes and the Student set. That couldn't be done for other playable characters that do not have 2 sets of clothes. It also works for the Laguna team.

This mod also uses modified versions of:

This mod does not :
  • Change the world map scripts. But I'd liked it did. Disk 4 forbiding you to get back to towns and Lunatic Pandora makes no sense now that you don't need to be careful about disk space. I'll keep trying to figure out a way to allow it.
  • Change spell textures.
  • Change music files. But does change when some tracks are played out. (e.g. Boss battles have different tracks)
  • Kill the fun, hopefully...

  • You need Tonberry installed first.

  • If you want card names to match correctly, make a backup of FF8_EN.exe then download the one I put on the Xylomod's Qhimm page and extract it in your game folder.
