Remake refers to whats happening in the story. Sephiroth is trying to remake the future because no matter what he does he is a puppet of Jenova, and wants to break free from this control so he can travel the cosmos with gaia as his vessel. For each attempt by Jenova to destroy the planet completing the cycle of death and rebirth both Jenova and Sephiroth have been defeated. In Remake Sephiroth accomplishes exactly what he wanted. He is now free, destiny a.k.a. the fate of the planet is now unknown. This will also play into why the next installment is called Rebirth and not Part II.
Of course if you doubt what I'm saying this is all information from ff7 Ultimania books for the original, remake, crisis core, dirge of cerberus, and before crisis AS WELL as the writer, director, and producer themselves. You can find this information yourselves if you wanted to.
But I cant get mad or fault people for not knowing this because the naming theme they chose isnt very obvious.
Well then you agree with me, the rebbot theme is more what Sephiroth is doing than a remake which would be a copy of the original events without any changes.
Yikes. Imagine being THIS childishly petty... Feeling "cheated" by the remake.. Whoof. The remake we've all known since 2015 (when it was literally first announced!) that it'd be a multi-part full-scale expanded saga (only recently confirmed to be a trilogy. and "Remake" is INTENTIONAL as a subtitle (considering Part 2 is Rebirth), as the party is *remaking* the present. Aerith said it herself. You can't change the past, what's done is *done*. The only step is forward. Regardless, the original FFVII's lead director (Kitase, Producer of remake saga) *did not want to make a lazy 1:1 copy of a 20+ year old game they've already made and still exists on multiple platforms*. Nor did original lead scenario writer (Kazushige Nojima), he wanted to re-write with a fresh take. Simple as that. Their creation, not yours. It's *their* world, we're merely *invited to visit it*. It's actually rather depressing commentary about the toxicity of nostalgia, and people's self-entitled inability to *move on*. I sure as hell never wanted an exact 1:1 shot for shot identical "remake". That's lazy AF. If I wanted to play the same game, I'd play *the game that still exists*.
i feel that this remake feels like the evangelion new 4 movies, where you discover that the anime is still canon and just rebooted in that universe, but still kaworu have the memory about it
To be more precise, from the 25th Anniversary stream and the social media messages from Kitase/Hamaguchi/Nomura that followed, Kitase's vision (he directed original FFVII, producer of remake saga) is that the trilogy is emulating what Star Wars IV/V/VI were. An overarching narrative, and he even outright proves it by saying "most often the second instalment in a trilogy in the world of film becomes the favourite among fans". He's referring to The Empire Strikes Back.
