The sword originally belonged to Angeal Hewley, which was later passed to Zack Fair and finally to Cloud Strife.
Zack Fair used the sword at the end of the events of Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII, and there the sword was badly damaged. Later Cloud Strife continued using it and ended up modifying it until the version that we see in Final Fantasy VII of 1997 and Final Fantasy VII Remake; the gold details are only part of the Buster Sword while this is Angeal Hewley and Zack Fair.
I think the sword is one of the few things that is excellently well made in this game.
Regarding the correct colors... I am aware of both the belts of the pants and the gloves, they should perhaps be a bit darker, but for me it does not make much sense that only those two pieces of leather have a unique color, so... I think this makes it more logical and more uniform. Ultimately, SOLDIER's clothing is a "uniform," and as such it must follow some logical color patterns.
First of all Thank You for this detailed answer ! You are probably right abuut the sword, I looked again and most of the concept art has a silver in it. As I wrote this before I googled and found the ps1 version https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/finalfantasy/images/9/9a/Buster_sword_2_FF7.png and thought it was always golden. But most artwork for cloud shows a silver buster sword and they changed it in AC anyway to the fusion sword (also silver and maybe the modified buster sword, bc of size and apparence)
Regarding the colors: I think the belt was/sould be metal instead of leather, so maybe the color difference comes from there. The gloves and boots just are black dyed lether parts. If this looks good or correct or anything is in the eye of the observer, at last it's Your mod. Color matching his outfit is a nice touch
I see you updated the mod with darker colors, I really appreciate that you are still working on this mod and maybe on new mods in the future too
