Q. I can't locate the right path where to paste the Engine.ini A. Just press Win + R and copy/paste the following path in the box it will appear:
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
then hit enter and you will end up in the correct folder where to put the Engine.ini
Q. When I launch the game the modded Engine.ini is automatically deleted or reverted to default one? A. Right-Click on my Engine.ini -> Properties -> make sure the "Read-Only" box is selected -> Apply/OK It's important. If the file keeps getting deleted or reverted, un-tick the "Read-only" box -> Apply -> re-tick it -> Apply/OK Q. When I right click on Engine.ini Properties I have a security warning stating "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer"? A. That's just a warning that tells you the file comes from another PC (mine). It will still work without issues.
Q. My CPU usage is skyrocketing to 100% after the mod A. This is initial shader compilation which may continue in-game even after the initial precompilation loading screen. Wait 4-5 minutes at max to let the game finish it and CPU usage / performance will return normal.
Q. I have noticeable ghosting A. To improve ghosting I highly recommend updating the game's DLSS .dlls to latest DLSS4 version (easiest method: DLSS Swapper) and force the "Latest" DLSS preset via NVIDIA Profile Inspector or NVIDIA App. It will make an huge difference for the better. Also always use the latest version of the mod.
Q. I have the same or worse performance after the mod A. For super high-end PCs the performance difference may be small but you should still notice reduced stuttering, more consistent 1% lows, lower input latency and better visual clarity. For mid and low-end PCs the fps difference may be much bigger on top of all that. If for some specific PC configs you end up with worse performance try deleting shaders cache including the files which end with "cache" located in the "Saved" folder from the above path and open the game again. If you still have worse performance just delete my Engine.ini and on next boot the game will recreate its default one. You don't need to verify the game files or reinstall it to restore it to what it was before the mod.
Q. Will this mod downgrade visuals/graphics? A. No :) "Lossless" means this mod was created with the goal to optimize everything I could in Unreal Engine without sacrificing visuals and/or altering your in-game graphics' choices (except for Chromatic Aberration removal and Film Grain optimization which you can still revert back by changing their described lines within the Engine.ini itself) With improvements to TAA and Sharpening you should actually have even better visuals after the mod.
Q. Can I use it together with FF7R Optimiser, FF7R Ultra+, FF7R "Uber-Tweaks" or whatever? A. No. Don't mix my Engine.ini with other mods which will do their own optimization tweaks to the engine or they may conflict with each other. You can try each of them separately and choose the one which performs the best for you and only use that exclusively. You can still install any other "non-optimization" mods.
Q. Will this Engine.ini disable Achievements? A. Straight and simple: no. :)
Q. Will this Engine.ini work/load also with future game patches? A. Yes. Just be sure the file is set to "Read-only"
Q. The game crashes when opening it and/or during gameplay after a while A. Make sure your PC is actually stable under sustained load (e.g. you are not using an excessive overclock/undervolt). You can test it using OCCT (launch a 1 hour "CPU+RAM" test, followed by another 1 hour "3D Adaptive" test. If you have even a single error, you need to fix your PC stability first) Another solution if you use Vortex is to open it, go to the game section -> Load Order and click the last button ⛔ on the top bar ("Reset Plugins File") If even doing the above you still crash, try lowering PoolSizeVRAMPercentage=60 (both in [TextureStreaming] and [ConsoleVariables] sections of the .ini), then remember to set the .ini to Read-only again.
After using it for 2 chapters now it's save to say that this really is a big game changer for me, i used to run this game a couple years ago with a other engine.ini and it was still stuttering like crazy. But with this one it's just soooo soooo much better and only slightly stutters sometimes but nothing compared to the other engine.ini i've tried before.
Thank you so much man, ur engine.ini files are also helping a ton in stellar blade and FFV rebirth as well. Keep up the good work! ^ ^
Hello, I just downloaded and installed this mod into my game. It does improve the overall perfomance so thank you for that! however for some reason the game keeps shifting between very high brightness and then reverting to normal in certain scenes. Is there any setting in the .ini I have to change or could this have anything to do with my display and HDR settings perhaps?
I think that's auto exposure which the game also uses without the mod and which can be more prominent if coupled with HDR, so it shouldn't be something added by the mod.
HDR of the game is also meant to be looking "normal" most of the time but with VERY bright elements which will contrast with the average luminance (like lights, sparkles, flashes during combat etc.) It's intended that way.
Hey thanks for the response, I understand however this wasn't an issue before I installed the mod. So the only explanation I’d have is that I made an error whilst installing it I guess.
Here is what I mean.
With mod installed: https://ibb.co/QFJ1yxTt
Without mod installed: https://ibb.co/wvpvrLw
Sometimes in a cutscene the scene seems to fix itself automatically, but then proceeds to go super bright again in the next scene in the cutscene. Anyhow I don’t want to bother you too much with this, I'll see if I can find the solution for it.
It doesn’t fix itself permanently. Only briefly until the scene changes again and everything goes very bright again. 95% of the time the game is like this and only changes to normal briefly in a part of a cutscene.
Mmmh, that's very weird. I'll try to investigate it but it will be hard if I can't directly reproduce it on my 7800X3D + RTX 4080.
I would try removing settings' "block to block" from the .ini (including eventual duplicates in [ConsoleVariables] section) until you spot the exact block which causes the issue, then test line per line until you find the line giving the issue and remove it.
If it works, obviously let me know which line is and I will update the mod accordingly.
I updated it, but the issue persists. I've tested a few things yesterday and played the game on for like an hour to see if it might have been just that part in the game. For a moment I thought it was the case, because when I went outside of the church in the game, everything seemed looking normal again. Then when I reached Aerith's house the issue started occuring again. What I've learned that it seems to be something caused due to Godrays or light illuminating within. I've tried to see if i could find anything related to that in the Engine.ini and disable and enable a few things, but to no avail yet
Yeah no problem, the least I could do for a mod that has helped me out alot. Hope this also helps out other potential people that might come across this issue otherwise.
FOR NVIDIA OWNERS:DO NOT USE GLOBAL REBAR SETTINGS or you will always stutter every few seconds. If you enabled ReBar globally, disable it only for this game as an exception like the following (in NVIDIA Profile Inspector):
Sorry man, but this mod did absolutely zero for reducing micro-stuttering, and I'm running the game at 4k120 on a 7800x3d and RTX 4090.
Sector 7 was still filled with tons of microstutters, especially while running with the HD Texture mod, but even without that mod was still getting lots of microstutters.
Wanna what mod actually fixed it, and basially got rid of 95% of stuttering and let the game run completely smoothly?

Has 1200+ endorsements, so this older method is definitely best the way to go.
Noticeably improved Anti-Aliasing efficiency and further optimized Sharpening in order to remove all remaining ghosting and shimmering (while still looking sharp)
Reintroduced and optimized a very slight amount of Film Grain in order to improve/fix color banding through dithering, all without visible noise on screen
Naah who downloads and uses these engine tweaks mod man. All the fake tagged comments and ppl placebo-ing themselves into thinking they gdoes anything and then spreading the bs around with "this fixed it/runs buttery smooth for me"...
Grain should already be disabled with the mod, but yeah for the rest you can add whatever you want at the bottom of it (I left a dedicated section only for that 😉)

I cannot reproduce it so let me know if and how you will manage to fix it!

Could you also try v1.1 and see how it goes?
Thanks!
I won't be doing any other updates in the meanwhile.
Thank you again,

Just wanted to add that i'm having the same issue with the brightness on 8700k + 3070ti. Other than that everything else is working great!
r.Shadow.UnbuiltPreviewInGame=0
on line 864 and 178 which according to your documentation should: Disable unbuilt shadows in-game.
I hope this can help you further.
I just uploaded v1.2 with those lines removed so the issue should finally be fixed for everybody now.
Thank you again and enjoy! ;)

You didn't even try it and still came here shooting judgments to me and others.
Piss off
Where should we put direct storage dll's?
Otherwise this one line does nothing.
i just added few lines to disable motion blur, depth of field and grain from pcgamingwiki and it runs well for now
Thanks for the feedback and enjoy!
