About this mod

This mod attempts to fix the extremely bright fullscreen flashes that occur when Cloud hits things with his sword, reverting them to something much closer to how they were in the original PS4 release of FF7R. This mod also attempts to curb a few other instances of VFX with very bright fullscreen flashes.

This is a test release of the mod I've been working on to get rid of the bright flashing that occurs whenever Cloud hits stuff with his sword in the PC release of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. This changes the particle effect to something that's much closer to how it looked in the original PS4 release.

Currently the flashing for the majority of Cloud's basic attacks seems to be fixed. There is some major flashing for a few other effects that I hope to fix at a later point. That would be the VFX for Thunder, Thundara, Thundaga, Barrier, Manaward, Manawall, and the Refocus Limit Break.

Instructions for installation:
  • Once you've downloaded the .pak file, you need to go to where FF7R is installed on your computer. By default that would be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE for Steam, and C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE for Epic.
  • Once there, you need to go to End\Content\Paks and create a new folder called ~mods if you don't already have one. Simply drop the zParticleHitFix_v2.pak file into this folder and it should take effect when you launch the game. Very quick to confirm if it works since you just need to start hitting stuff with Cloud's sword. Especially easy to notice in the very first fight when you start a new game, since the lighting there is dark and makes the flash even more noticeable when it's present.

For reference, this mod does not alter any in-engine bloom settings. This mod modifies the mask files for certain particle effects. I darkened the masks so they are not pure white on black, which affects the intensity of the bloom for that specific particle effect. I'm hoping to track down the other masks I need to edit in order to fix some of the spell effects at a later point.
