Hi, I have a request, can you make a mod where the font size is slightly smaller and just for a single subtitle? (i use english but the official subtitles feel a tad large for me. )
Hello, I really liked your mod, I did some tests here and it is very promising. However, I would like to have the option to choose the lower subtitle as Japanese regardless of the chosen language as the main one. This is because I am learning Japanese and English is not my native language either, for now I will use it to practice reading in English and learn new words, but I would really appreciate it if you gave me this option or told me how to do it with this same version of the mod. I speak Brazilian Portuguese, I have a good understanding of English but I would really like to play this game to relax and not to practice english, but i can learn japanese by context with this mod, that is why I am asking for this modification. Thank you very much. The thing is that in any language it leaves the lower subtitle in English, with the exception of English which leaves the lower one in Japanese, I would like the same for the other languages.
I instalelled the mod and it works perfectly! I have a question though, is there a way to switch to japanese subtitles even with another language? I'm using jp audio and ITA subtitles, and since I've been studying japanese for the last three and a half years it would really be useful for me!
Thank you for your hard work for this wonderful mod. Could I trouble you to make another one with English as primary & Chinese subtitles as secondary instead of Japanese ? I can read both Chinese and English fine but I wanted to keep everything else in English (the interface/menu) but have Chinese subtitle to display alongside as the Chinese texts are actually much closer to Japanese in translation (in meaning , grammar/sentences structures ) compared to English .
Again , thanks for your effort , the English translations really took way too much liberty in many of the dialogues and character's names , at least with Chinese subtitles I could understand the original intent of the Japanese dub
No worries man , you already done a lot with this mod . For now I'm able to display both English & Chinese by changing the in game language to Chinese (which makes every text on menu/interface to display Chinese) , then English as secondary subtitle underneath the Chinese ones. It works as intended , & now I finally able to see how drastically differences the English localization can be when playing with Japanese Dub , as the Chinese texts translation are more faithful to the Japanese text/audio . For example , certain Character's name are different in Japanese Dub, Chocobo Billy's name in Japanese is Gurin Gurin , & in the Chinese subtitles it's written as 格林葛林 (which read as ge lin ge lin ) .
& in this particular scene , in Japanese Dub you can hear him mention Onē-san-tachi (which means Big sis and others ,emphasing on both Aerith & Tifa ,and the guys as 'others") , and the Chinese texts are faithfully translated as 姐姐们 ,it adds a bit of nuance context that the reason he didn't charge them for info is because he see Aerith & Tifa as attractive Big Sis. However in the English dub and text it's been localized as as simply Billy didn't charge them as he is not a scoundrel ,removing any subtle context that he is playful with the Big Sis ,perhaps to sound less sexist and gender neutral ?
Man, I'm French, I know how to read english but I want my game in french, still the dialogues are soooo dull, and the VA so much accurate and cool, you're a true life saver! And I still have to understand some expressions, not being a native (even with a C1 lvl)!
By the way, I don't know which one is the most faithful to the japanese original dialogues, french or english?
Definitely French. Or even German. Basically anything that's not English. The English subs are based on the English voiced dialog which rewrites a lot of the script sometimes. And no other dub does it to the extent that the English one does, for some reason.
Just a head's up, you might wanna reconsider using this game to do that, as the English translation is shit. It takes too many liberties and sometimes take things out of context.
Even in the main screetshot for the game, the English & Japanese are different. 「早く来い」literally translates to "Come here quick".
If you still wanna use this game as an excuse to learn Japanese, you need to play it with BOTH text & audio in Japanese.
Depends on your level of Japanese. The English subs are for the dub, which is why it's so jarring and not 1:1 with the Japanese voice (English is localized to use phrases/words that are English-only, especially when the voice uses Japanese-only phases/syntax).
But I think this is excellent for anyone who wants to practice reading against the original voice, and gap filling English with anything they don't understand.

Can displays all text in the game (not only subtitle, but also command, menu, etc.) in 2 languages ?
