This mod is so cool and simultaneously hilarious and incredibly hype to hear Lightsaber sound effects in Final Fantasy.
I don't know if this would be possible, and maybe I'm mistaken in my observation, but it seems that the lightsaber, despite glowing blue and bright, does not seem to be considered as a light source, so when I walk around in a dark area, the blue glow doesn't reflect on either Cloud or other surfaces.
Would it be possible to, I guess, add Ray Tracing/dynamic lighting to the lightsaber itself? Again, maybe it already is and I just didn't see it in my quick play session just now, but yeah.
That's a great question! From my understanding path-tracing and ray-tracing for emissive objects is only supported in Unreal 5 and onward. Since the game is built in 4.26, it's not available by default. However, SQEX has back ported features from newer versions to FF7 (Remake was 4.18 but had features from 4.25).
There's like a 1% chance it's doable but I'm definitely going to try.
First off, thank you for this. Quit out of my game to download this mod as soon as I saw it.
I know you said below that having the saber switch on/off is too complex, but would it be possible to have an optional file where the brightness/glow of the saber is just slightly turned down a bit?
On my setup the saber is super bright on Cloud's back. If it's too much of a hassle, no worries. I'll keep using your mod either way.
Are you by chance using HDR? I can see about having a lower brightness patch, but it will be incompatible with any color change mods in the future. How much brightness reduction would be ideal? 25%?
It looks really good in-game, it's just a smidge distracting at the current brightness level. I'm not using HDR but have a pretty high-end monitor. Honestly, it's probably something I could fix by adjusting my display settings, but I spent so long tweaking various settings to get the game looking really nice I'm scared to change anything lol. Thought I'd check with you first to see if a patch could be done without too much hassle.
Added two new files under Misc for you to try. Be sure to delete the existing mods (they are named differently and won't overwrite). Turns out Emission is logarithmic, so at really high intensity I can't see the changes on my monitor unless I'm in HDR mode and with full brightness. Went a little more than 25% reduction without, hopefully, reducing the effect.
Thank you so much! This is one of my favorite mods so far for the game! I was wondering, if its not too much to ask, could you make one in red for Cloud? If not, its cool bro. Thank you for taking the time out to prove how awesome you are. Appreciate the work you put in. :D
Keep trying to launch the game. Fatal error on launch can sometimes be a general error. A lot of modders deal with it. If it's still an issue after 5 to 10 attempts, then I'd recommended verifying your game cache and giving it a few more tries.
