You will need to find the compactdata folder of the game, and browse in the c://...documents and after that it's the same as the instructions. You need to make sure its the FF compactdata (if you've played the game last and saved, it should be the most recent folder).
Depending on where you installed your game, main drive or sd card, go to the steam folder of that drive. Go to ______\steam\steamapps\compatdata\2909400\pfx\drive_c\users\steamuser\My Documents/My Games\FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
For future reference, if you are going to do this on other games. It should still be on compatdata, just look for the games ID of the specific game you are going to mod. After that, you can follow the same path. 2909400 is FF7 rebirth's game ID by the way.
I do not have this folder 2909400. I have 2348590 , 1493710 1895880 and 1887720 instead... FF7 rebirth is installed on my SD card too... Found the folder but it only has one item. Remotecache.vdf =/
I take back what I said. This does what it says it does, BUT it's lying about the visuals. You get a massive hit in draw distance. I used a mod before that fixes the issue where shadows and some textures only load a few feet from Cloud. This brings it back.
I've tested multiple of these files and none of them work, I drag and drop them and when I'm ingame im getting no visual improvement nor am I getting better performance, What am I doing wrong?
Try setting the files to read-only. The system saved over the files after I closed the game and in doing so reverted some of the changes. Once I set it to read-only, the stutters remained gone.
I'm not sure if I've ever even commented on a mod on this website in the 10+ years I've been on it, but i felt like i had to by how effective and easy this mod was to improve the game. I put this on my Steamdeck, and on my main PC, the steamdeck 45 FPS, and the 1440P for my PC. Both improved visuals and performance, absolutely amazing what modders. Thanks so much!
