I did try out re-doing a few different motifs from Crisis core as well as FF7 before I landed on Open your heart, but Price of freedom actually wasn't one of them. I wanted the mod to suit the purpose of region exploration/battle background music, and I do also prefer using FF7 tracks that weren't already re-made in the standard score just because I enjoy doing re-making them myself whenever it make sense to do that. Price of freedom to me seems suited to important moments in Crisis Core's story or maybe more broadly just Zack's character, and I think it is used sometimes already when he's brought up. I don't really see a connection between that and exploring and battling in the Gongaga region apart from the fact that it's maybe kinda close to where he's from, which isn't really a strong enough connection to make it fit for purpose. Open your heart isn't a slam-dunk in that regard either, but it had a few kind of generic uses in FF7 one of which was exploring Fort Condor and the mountain path that leads from there to the world map, but what ultimately made me choose it was how well it worked with this ensemble and also the way it lends itself both to field and battle versions, which are both needed for a region re-score.
I usually stay away from music mods, because, let’s be real, FF7 already has one of the sexiest soundtracks known to human ears. But damn, buddy, you got dangerously close to their level of greatness here. If I listened to this with my eyes closed, I’d see Gongaga in full HD… I can imagine some moody NPC monologuing about lost dreams. I swear, it hit me right in my childhood kidney. Brought back flashbacks of that Brother Bear game I played as a kid, which had a soundtrack so similar. But I guess all old games are like that, aren't they? Especially those ones with the nature as the main enviroment (Idk if I spelled it correctly, lol)Can’t download it now ‘cause my brain is operating on 3% battery, one functioning brain cell, and half a soul… But as soon as I wake up tomorrow and feel the urge to sp4nk somme NPC'S, I’m loading up Gongaga and letting those sweet, nostalgic forest vibes wash over me like a hot anime shower scene. This is beautiful, man. I am on a phone rn so I can't slap a sexy-smexy sticker on your face right now. Until then, take this imaginary French kiss and one big ol’ respectful bro-nod🙂✅
Hi, does this modify BGMList at all? I'd like to use it with Aerith Theme throughout Jenova Phases, but you haven't listed what files your mod changes.
Great work on both pieces! I personaly dont mind the field music. Of all the field music in the game Gongaga is probably my favorite ngl. but the original Gongaga battle music is awful. You go from feeling like youre in a jungle to feeling like your playling aladin. It was such a weird change in tone. Thank you for this.
For the love of Final Fantasy, thank you! The basic music was some crappy Enya sounding music on a short loop that was just the most annoying thing I have ever heard.
Absolutely based beyond belief. That utter mess of a track that is the original arrangement is both horrific to listen to, and egregiously out of place in the game. Seriously, it meshes with nothing else in the soundtrack at all, let alone the area it's played in, and definitely doesn't evoke the FFVII feel at all. It smacks of some artsy fartsy auteur's little pet project, that no-one else involved in the soundtrack had the good sense to just say "no" to. Even the objectively worst tracks of Remake (and I can't even say any of those were outright bad) weren't... that.
Thank you for giving us what should have been in the game from the start. Absolute legend.
You are a hero! The OST was an amalgam of African chant mixed with European gospel and it was really painful to listen to. I actually hated it so much that I had to turn off the BGM for that chapter, too bad I finished it already. It's really shameful to make the fanbase suffer that much for some DEI/ESG points. I just listened your music for a few second and it brought back so much memories, 10/10 !
While I like this game, I don't know why they tried to change so many things in it, and the music is at the top of the list (and all those damn minigames).
But, I just installed this mod, and I love it. THIS is the music that they SHOULD have used for Gongaga.
I haven't gone back to Corel Desert yet, but I'm anxious to get there so I can hear how that mod sounds also.
Thank you for doing what the developers SHOULD have done.
