About this mod
Adds new ATB abilities for Cloud, based on Zack's abilities, as well as branching combo strings, as well as additional enhancements to Cloud's combat.
- Permissions and credits
* Cloud now starts with the ability "Soldier Slash Combo" which is a modified version of Chain Slash
* Cloud can acquire two new moves (Braver Combo and Meteorain) through the folios. Meteorain is based on Meteo Shots and Braver Combo is based on High Braver
* Every time Cloud uses a limit break it raises his limit level
* Finishing touch does more damage on the last hit (probably a bit too much, but I like it)
* Added new combos for Cloud (more below)
Combos
Cloud's normal combos have been tweaked a bit. Firstly, holding square now does the same aerial launcher that Zack has. Additionally, Cloud can now hit the triangle button during his normal combos to follow up with a different attack (including the launcher). Some of these moves can also link to other moves (through square or triangle). These moves are mostly lifted from other characters (like Tifa, Yuffie, and Zack), but I've also included a few unused Cloud animations from such as his punisher combo from Remake. One of these moves costs a half ATB.
For your convenience, I have included a flowchart.
To install, unzip the folder and drop the 6 files into
FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH\End\Content\Paks\~mods
This mod will be incompatible with mods that also alter any of these files
DataObject files:
- BattleAbility.uasset
- BattlePlayerAbility.uasset
- BattleDamageSource.uasset
- CharaSpec.uasset
- PCReinforced.uasset
Mod also alters
- Cloud's CharaSpecs in the DataAsset directory
- Cloud's Motion files
This means that any mods which alter abilities, damage, folios, Cloud's animations, and possibly items will be incompatible.
FAQ
Q: Will you be updating combat for the other characters?
A: Possibly, but not for a while, and definitely not anything on the order of this change. It was pretty time consuming to do this, and I still want to make a few updates. If I can automate my workflow a bit more I might. As it stands I'll probably make some updates or optional versions that make some small changes to other characters, especially if I can think of fun ideas. I am open to ideas and will consider them, but I won't be making tons of different versions or taking commissions.
Q: Are there any known bugs?
A: I have not encountered any bugs with this mod, but I will admit that the triangle combos do conflict with Cloud's ability to switch to punisher when in the middle of a combo. I may consider other options if this ends up feeling like a problem, such as making the timing of the button press more precise for the combo, moving most of the branching combos to punisher mode, or giving Cloud a counterattack from his normal Guard (or maybe just perfect guard).
Lastly, there are a few "hidden moves" in here, and I'll probably add more in future updates. As of right now there are two ATB moves that have a triangle follow up (make sure you have extra ATB).
