This mod alters the overworld graphics. Colors are based on the SNES version. 3D buildings have also been disabled in favor of new 2D town graphics, more accurate to their actual layouts.
This is the main tool needed to enable and install mods. If you don't want to use Atma, use this instead.

This is an extensive overhaul of the overworld maps, encompassing both World of Balance and World of Ruin. I've taken the overworld map and color corrected it to more closely match the SNES version (this is not the same as the one included in the Atma mod program, I've redone it from scratch). This is not only a color correction however. I have also disabled the 3D building models in favor of creating new 2D town graphics. However, unlike the other releases of FF6 which repeat the same buildings for every town, all of the towns in my mod now have unique design adapted from their specific actual layouts. As a result, I can make Zozo actually look like it's supposed to, dark and dirty. Towns with ports will now have the dock and boat visible from the overworld. Narshe and the surrounding mountains are also given a more snowy makeover to differentiate it from the rest of the world, thanks to Faospark for providing a lot of the assets for this. Etc etc. Every town is now unique in appearance. I've also included new skies for the mode7 segments (including the approach to Vector). And a brand new animation for the Baren Falls overworld asset.
There is one caveat to this mod. While all of the other 2D assets can be permanently baked into the overworld tiles, Figaro Castle can't. The castle moves between different locations on the world map, so it needs to be handled differently to make it a 2D sprite. I have a temporary and hacky workaround included in this pack. To spare you the details, the castle is now a 2D asset and does move between locations, but there are two issues. One is that the castle sprite is smaller than it normally should be. The other issue is that the animation to make it gradually sink and rise from the sand smoothly is not working. It just disappears and reappears abruptly in a single frame. If I find a way around these two issues in the future, I will update the mod to fix it. Until then, it is what it is and I still far prefer it over the 3D model.
To use this mod, you will need the FFVI_Explorer Tool to get the game into a state where it will load mods. The tool is also included in the Atma Weapon Multimod installer. They contain their own instructions. If your game's directory has an obb folder with about 14 other folders inside of it, your game is ready to install and use mods. Just open the downloaded zip file and extract the obb folder into the FF6 directory. It will ask you if you want to overwrite a bunch of files, do so.
EXTRA IMPORTANT NOTE- You will need to actually remove two files to get the 3D model to disappear over Doma Castle (if you don't, you'll see the texture for Figaro Castle on top since Doma shares the same texture). The file overwriting process will not do this automatically, you need to manually remove them. These two files are in the obb/world/buildings directory located inside of your FF6 folder. Delete the doma.tmb and doma_2.tmb files found in there. Or move them elsewhere to a backup if you'd prefer (a backup would be a good idea in general), just make sure they're not in that folder.
