Hello, I'm new to the game, I was wondering what's the difference between this mod and the upscale mods by kartoffels?

Hard to say. And If a fan of Karts work sees this  I mean nothing negative by this. I personally use Karts work for gear.

Kart's process is a lot more technically and has a few more steps than Ours and is automated with tools like python and a custom version of TexTools from my understanding last speaking with them.
This means that they're upscales are VERY sharp but Imo, sometimes too sharp and can exacerbate the "Jaggies" look of textures.

Our process with Defined is a bit more manual and with a slightly more artistic approach of balancing sharpness and clarity without being unnatural or  fighting the Jaggy on textures.

Oh and a slight jab at Kart, Our work is technically compressed so it works with Textools still and doesn't take a 100gbs to download all of our work.

In the end, Try both and see which You like the look of more is my honest answer. Visuals are subjective and the great thing about modding is We have the freedom of choice to use and mix and match what We want. ♥

I was also recently forced to install Karts work at the request of someone in our patreon server as well. The only other key difference as of now is that while karts install is indeed massive it is also 1/2 the resolution of ours as well. While they do have a 4x version available on their own site that does increase the mod size by a great deal. The core issue here is the fact that their series is a Penumbra ONLY mod. And it is not even a pmp mod either but a already extracted penumbra file set you drag and drop into your penumbra mod folder.
From personal experience in testing when I have had to reinstall my game, unless your penumbra mods are on a dedicated SSD or NVME drive you are going to have one hell of a horrible time playing the game as the more mods you have loaded into penumbra, the longer it will take for your character and everything around you to load in every time you zone. I made the mistake of putting my mods on an external HDD once and it took me a full 15+ seconds after I zoned for me and my mods to load.

As a comparison as well you can see the difference in quality here https://imgsli.com/MjM2Mzcz this is a kart texture vs a base defined asset vs what would have been if 7.0 was not happening. And it stands to note that Karts mods do not give you the option to install singular races or characters. You either install them all or nothing. Defined lets you install just a singular race or gender. SO we don't force everything on you.

Maybe I'm being an idiot (which is very likely), but ever since the latest update some Lalafell noses are not appearing on their face. I've first noticed this on Wedge who didn't have this problem before.

I backed everything up and started over in TT before the update, which is what I think I needed to do to avoid issues.
    Please help? :)

    Hello

Could you tell me in Penumbra which should take prio over which?

Hair Defined/Face Defined/Npc Defined and Eyeworks?

Been switching them about and sometimes I still have for example Varshahn that has low textures, so i put that higher prio but then i get conflict on hair defined.

I use it with NPC > Face > Hair, no conflicts

Not sure if you're aware, but this mod removes the glowing effect for the Ancients' (Erichthonios, Lahabrea etc) eyes.  A fix would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I've managed to correct this issue myself by finding the effected character's face in Textools and disabling the updated eye texture.  This will not effect the overall mod, just the eyes, which are a barely noticeable upgrade.  To do so navigate to character > face.  Most of the Ancients are Elezen faces, but some are Midlander such as Themis and Erichthonios.  From there use the dropdown menus to find the specific face number and eye textures.

Thank you for these mods. Question, after they've been imported, can the mod files be deleted to make space?

Is there any reason Ardbert's facial hair wouldn't be showing up? For some reason, his new beard isn't showing up for me, despite putting NPC Defined higher than Hair and Face Defined in Penumbra <:/

Are you sure it's supposed to be showing in the scenes you're viewing? I played unmodded for a long time, and there was a variation in whether he had it per appearance by default

Hi, I can't figure out if we need the Endwalker patch if we take version 6.2, or if the patch is only needed for version 6.1.1?

Thank you for all your great work.

Just grab the latest version released the other day and install all you want. That should be all you need as in the description it says the endwalker patch standalone was merged into the main ttmp.

Thanks for the answer, indeed I had finally found the information in the description of the mod
but not in the description available on NexusMods.

And once again, thank you for your hard work,
      the rendering is really beautiful.

Hey, just wanted to ask a quick question and greatly appreciate the updated models btw =] But is Estinien not included at all? Everything from his hair etc still looks low res and I don't see the option for him included in the checklist. Was just curious is all. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, noticed this, it seems like Varshauhn's child form and Erichthonios were not upscaled as well unfortunately, kind of jarring.  Sad face...

There is a patch for estiniens hair included as and extra option for the endwalker patch. However his face is not because he does not have a unique face model. He just uses standard character faces. You need face defined for his face. Square Enix did not seem to think he warranted a special face.

His model will be updated for the next patch. Up until recently he was not accessible via Textools. Real life issues and the holidays have forced me to work a lot more so I have not had too much time for modding. However with the new patching coming out in two weeks expect a slew of new raid bosses and anything else I can try to find.
