Kart's process is a lot more technically and has a few more steps than Ours and is automated with tools like python and a custom version of TexTools from my understanding last speaking with them.
This means that they're upscales are VERY sharp but Imo, sometimes too sharp and can exacerbate the "Jaggies" look of textures.
Our process with Defined is a bit more manual and with a slightly more artistic approach of balancing sharpness and clarity without being unnatural or fighting the Jaggy on textures.
Oh and a slight jab at Kart, Our work is technically compressed so it works with Textools still and doesn't take a 100gbs to download all of our work.
In the end, Try both and see which You like the look of more is my honest answer. Visuals are subjective and the great thing about modding is We have the freedom of choice to use and mix and match what We want. ♥
From personal experience in testing when I have had to reinstall my game, unless your penumbra mods are on a dedicated SSD or NVME drive you are going to have one hell of a horrible time playing the game as the more mods you have loaded into penumbra, the longer it will take for your character and everything around you to load in every time you zone. I made the mistake of putting my mods on an external HDD once and it took me a full 15+ seconds after I zoned for me and my mods to load.
As a comparison as well you can see the difference in quality here https://imgsli.com/MjM2Mzcz this is a kart texture vs a base defined asset vs what would have been if 7.0 was not happening. And it stands to note that Karts mods do not give you the option to install singular races or characters. You either install them all or nothing. Defined lets you install just a singular race or gender. SO we don't force everything on you.
I backed everything up and started over in TT before the update, which is what I think I needed to do to avoid issues.
Please help? :)
Could you tell me in Penumbra which should take prio over which?
Hair Defined/Face Defined/Npc Defined and Eyeworks?
Been switching them about and sometimes I still have for example Varshahn that has low textures, so i put that higher prio but then i get conflict on hair defined.
Edit: I've managed to correct this issue myself by finding the effected character's face in Textools and disabling the updated eye texture. This will not effect the overall mod, just the eyes, which are a barely noticeable upgrade. To do so navigate to character > face. Most of the Ancients are Elezen faces, but some are Midlander such as Themis and Erichthonios. From there use the dropdown menus to find the specific face number and eye textures.
