Cool mod! But why does it look like the tail is inside some sort of rock/crystal or whatever? I think if that rocky part was removed it would look more natural. Just a suggestion.

Haha I can see what you mean. I'm not the designer of the base model, but it's supposed to kind of replicate fluffy layered hair.

I'll take that in to consideration though and see what edits I can make, I've definitely wanted to improve on it for a while. Would be neat to be able to make it a bit softer like the hair on the heads and ears our characters

Just wanted to let you know I made an update for what you requested, another update will be released soon that adds the highlight colors back in. But to fix the mod I had to strip it back some. The older version will stay available =)

Any chance of a version that ignores highlight color and uses only your base hair color? I really do love that you've adjusted the tail (size and tilt) to make up for the male slouch though! No other male bun tail mods seems to have done that lol.

I saw you mention in another comment about having a less 'spiky' model, and it made me think of the female bun tail mod I use - https://www.xivmodarchive.com/modid/31897 . Maybe you could use that as a base instead, or use it as a reference?

Hey thanks! I tried, and was also frustrated that other mods weren't correcting for the back arch. "If they wont do it right, do it yourself" or whatever right? lol

I'm assuming you're using either ears 1 or 4? Ears 2 & 3 both ignore the highlight color. There's the smallest tinge of it to help with the natural look I think but unless you're looking for it you wouldn't notice it~

That being said, I might see about releasing a version with just the Main colors and no highlight effect - and do that alongside the more "natural" looking update I want to try and make.

All the tails use the exact same tail model from the mod you linked just pushed around a bit to give the appearance of variety~
The issue comes from an edit another modder made... it ends up coloring the whole polygon/shape rather than coloring with the texture.
I've been trying to figure out how to correct this but it's not the most straight forward thing~ and I'm under the impression the last modder couldn't figure it out either. I can get it to work correctly on some of the tails but not all

For example, here's the original mods tail:

here's the same tail on Male Viera:

You can see the texture is out of place - I know what this is caused by but it's been super difficult to rearrange the texture. Male Viera actually have a shorter distance between their ears and tail and this whole mod relies on the ears... I might try and change this so it's attached to face type instead but we'll see. It would make pulling the correct hair colors all the more complicated BUT probably worth the effort imo

I'm thinking the best course of action would be to take the very original mod and adjust that one from it's starting point - rather than where I started which was already an edit of an edit of an edit, lmao

Wow, I knew this stuff was complex but... what a weird mess lol. And yeah I'm using ear 4 - my base hair is dark red, with white highlights, and my whole tail is bright white with just a tiny hint of red under the spiked fluff... way more highlight than my hairstyle. Similar to the preview images you have with the white-haired character.

And maybe it's my imagination, but even in the preview pics of the raw models, the versions with less highlight pulling (especially the floppy ears) look way less spiky! And yet, the in-game preview pic with the ginger-haired boy, they're all spiky... I dunno how all this works, and you're still amazing for being able to deal with it more than me!

That's amazing! It looks great, and for me the non-highlight style is perfect. Thank you!!

Just a heads-up, but your thumbnail image appears to still be set to one of the TexTool previews, so people looking at the mod are just seeing a grey square.

Thank you for that, I'm new to Nexus Mods and managing those things and catching notifications haha
