You can reset the volume back to normal by setting the slider level to 5.

Hello, I was wondering if it would be possible to adjust SFX and VO volume as well with separate sliders?

I'm playing the game with headphones on and the original volume was blowing my ears out. Your app is working great for the music, but the SFX for me are still really loud.

I was poking around the source code and see that you are patching the volume values directly in the bin file. Assuming this process could just be done assuming the SFX files and offsets are known?

I considered doing this sometime back but there is one problem that I wasn't sure on how to handle the best when it comes to patching in packed mode.

Most of the sound files are stored inside a tiny archive like file with a .wpd extension. these wpd files are then stored compressed inside the main bin file and so if I want to edit the sound files inside these wpd files, then I would have to decompress the wpd file from the bin file, edit the volume offsets of all the sound files in the wpd and then pack the wpd file back into the bin file. these wpd files are stored inside multiple bin files and doing the above operation for each and every one of the wpd files will take quite a lot of time. the reason why my slider program is faster for the music files is cause the music files are all stored uncompressed in the bin file and aren't inside a wpd file. cause of this, I need not have to extract them to edit the volume offsets.

Do you use an external sound card or a special speaker setup ?

Maybe 0=mute and 1=max, so then you use 0.1-0.9?

Did anyone else get this issue? I'm a bit worried about getting stuck with a too loud or muted game

Give the app a try yourself and see if it works properly. you can always put the volume levels back to the default level with the app if none of the volume levels are satisfactory.

Even on 1 the music is blowing my ears away. And im already at 20% windows sound in the volume mixer. Barely understand the people talking. Effects sound is alright mostly. Maybe because im emulating 7.1 surround sound with my creative sound card? I have no idea. But thanks anyway, its definetly working, as 0 mutes it.

Edit: By testing i noticed that it acutally does not work on my end. 1 is as loud as 5 or 10. I can either 0 for mute or anything else for ear cancer.

Can you test without the surround sound setting ?
There should be a noticeable decrease in volume with each level below 4 onwards. I am assuming the surround setup is probably the issue as this game and the sequel have a broken surround sound implementation on PC.

Yeah i set it on 2 speaker and everything is alot quieter, but everything, not just the music Guess this game wont work with my setup, but i found something that worked for me on the steam forum.
A guy on the second page posted a batch for FF13 and the Japanese VO. Put it on 0.6 and its perfect now. Would be 3 on your slider if math doesnt fail me. But thanks for your reply. I hope others can just use your tools without problems.

Interesting that you are facing issues with this even with a 2 speakers setup. the mod which you linked does the same thing that my app does as even that modifies the volume data for each music file just like this app. so its even more weird that this app is not working correctly with your game files.

Well, i hope it works for others. But i noticed that the batch unpacked and (de)-compressed the bin files for a few mins, while your app just said "volume changed" after i clicked it like i just turned something on or off in a menu. So, if your programm should unpack and repack something too, it didnt do that on my system, for whatever reason. But muting works, so it apperently does something on my end.

That's the expected behavior from this app as it directly patches the volume data in the music files without decompressing each file out of the main bin file. I first dump a text file with all of the file positions from the filelist file and using that text file, I locate and patch all of the music files in the bin file. as its not decompressing or extracting each file out of the bin file just to get the music files, its a lot faster and space efficient too.

If possible, can you please test the app again with unmodified files? like do a steam verify integrity check and once the modified files are all re downloaded, try the app again with the 2 speaker setup itself. I need some proper tests done too and nowadays its quite hard to find testers for testing such tools with scams and account hacks being on the rise.

Interesting. I had to uninstall the game and reinstall it after changing my setting to 2 speaker, then it suddenly works. If i change that after the game is installed, it just dont work, like its hard coding the speaker setup during the installation somehow. And i have to leave it on 2 speaker. Changing it back to 7.1 resets the volume also. What makes no sense in my eyes but whatever. I surely dont change my whole sound system just for this game. So i will use that batch from the steam forum again, which works with my 7.1 setup. But good to know that Square Enix had no clue what surround sound is in 2014.
