If you wish to view the improvement in the cutscene quality without downloading the entire 90 GB of files, download the Main Installer and the first FMV file. This will allow you to install the intro scene as well as most of the Hanging Edge scenes including the purge train. Then start a new game. You can then get the remaining files and re-run the installer if the graphical improvement is worthwhile.
Should you want to verify that you are actually seeing the new FMV files, you can temporarily rename your original intro movie file. If the game actually tries to access this file and it does not exist, then it will just skip the intro. If the intro plays, then it is showing the upgraded FMV. The intro file can be found in your Final Fantasy XIII directory at the following location. Restore the original filename once you have completed your check.
FINAL FANTASY XIII\white_data\movie\z000.win32.wmp

I run the .bat on my win11 and seems it do not useable now.It can locate .bin but no actual file was unpacked, can someone help me?
By the way, can I keep downloading the files as I need them? For example if I start a new game and already have the chapter 1 and 2 FMV's downloaded, can I just download chapter 3 FMV's and install them later?
If so, can I delete the ones I've already watched to preserve space?
Yes, you can download the FMVs as you need them. Just re-run the installer and it will find any new ones you've downloaded. Also, once they have been installed, you can delete the downloaded FMVs from your mod directory as they have been transferred over into the game directory.
You can place these files on a different drive, but when you install the mod, the actual FMVs will be installed to your game drive, taking about 90gb of space.
If you have the mod directory and the game directory too close to the root directory (ex. D:\FINAL FANTASY XIII\ and D:\Mods\) then it can incorrectly think you put it in the game directory. Just put the mod farther down a path. (D:\Mods\Mod1\Mod2\) and it should work.
The .bat can't find my directory and it's stuck in an endless search.
Directory: E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY XIII
I changed the following line 11 to go to MANUALINPUT instead of NOTFF13 but it says it can't find the launcher after I copy and pasted the directory: "if not exist "..\..\..\FINAL FANTASY XIII" goto MANUALINPUT"
Edit: Idk how this was incapable of reading my directory no matter what edits I made. I read a bit and added the FF13_Dir.txt from HD Project after seeing it scans for that and it started working.
Excuse me, I got Error locating original FF13 Japanese Movie 'z000_a.win32.wmp'. . I know the cause, I deleted the english and japanese movies from the movie dir, since my laptop don't have much empty space in the SSD, and I thought that the mod would just replace them anyway.
So I was wondering, why the mod needs the original videos?
Edit: I reinstalled the game and installed the mod, so what can I safely delete in order to free up some space?
Once the mod has been installed, it doesn't need the original movies any more. You also don't need the .bin files in the mod directory. The upscaled FMV files are now in the game's movie\ directory. They have a letter after the name, so like z002_a and z002_b, etc. You need to keep these.
I noticed that the files are all extracting into their own movies folders. Should I put all the contents within them into 1 movies folder or is a seperate folder for each rar file is fine?
