This really is quite the amazing project. Now only if I could get my machine to behave! I have loaded all of the textures, including the HD models and have the FFXIII fix. When I boot the game, I get to the new/load game menu and once I get past the initial loading screen giving you a recap, the game freezes and stays dark. I've tried Windowed Mode and Full Screen, doesn't make a difference. Any idea what to do next?

I've never had it stay dark, although in the early days when I was doing this project and still had some errors in the insertion process, I sometimes had it stuck on the loading screen. Are you using an existing save or starting a new game? I'm just trying to get an idea where you are in the game. If you are using an existing save, do you have a save in a different chapter of the game you can try? I'm looking to see if this occurs everywhere or only in a specific chapter. Come to think of it, I did have a somewhat similar issue on the Palamicia on a transition between the inside of the ship and the outside but that wasn't on a game start, but while playing but as able to resolve the problem.

Edit: Just verifying, but the game worked fine before you installed the mods, correct?

I have tried a new game and a save in chapters 2 and 3. It was working before I installed the mods. I've rolled back to a fresh copy from Steam and will slowly step out my additions from there.

    Yo !

Too much tanks for this project, in the past I loved playing the game in the past and know, I want to play it again but the game is uglier than what I see in my memories x) so your mods are perfect for me

My problem is that when I run the bat files, they try to locate my game but it fails and when I give the location, it don't works (D:\FINAL FANTASY XIII\) Maybe because it isn't in C:\ ?

Can you provide more information like any install messages?

Based on what you posted I do have one question. Does it give the error "Error: Can not run this batch file from the Final Fantasy directory."?The reason I asked is that I have a bug in the install process when your game is the root directory (which yours is) and the mod is on the same drive. If this is your case, then either move the mod to a different drive (c:\, e:\, anything), or temporarily move it 4 or more levels deep (ex. d:\level1\level2\level3\ModDirectory\). Or wait a day or two, as I was planning on putting out a patch for it. If this isn't your error, then please post any information from the install process you can. That will give me an idea where it is failing.

At first, it gave me the error that u'r talking about, I understoud it and moved it (it was in D:\ like the game but now it's in F:\) but the fact is that when I retry, it first searches the game's directory for a time and when it fails, it demands to enter manually the path , I type Y for "yes", then it says "Enter the full path including the drive, path including a trailling \. This path should be similar to C:\SomePath\FINAL FANTASI XIII\

Then I tried two paths D:\FINAL FANTASY XIII\ (but the launcher is deeper) then I tried D:\FINAL FANTASY XIII\white_data\prog\win\bin\ that is the path where is the .exe called ffxiiiimg and it didn't work

It should still be able to find your FF13 directory wherever it is as long as it is in a directory called "FINAL FANTASY XIII". It will then look to see if the launcher is in this directory (it should be named "FFXiiiLauncher.exe") If you've moved it or renamed it, then it will assume that this is not the correct directory. It sounds like your launcher is not in this directory (you mention it is deeper). If you create a copy of the launcher and put it in this directory, things should work.

    Hey,

First, thanks to the effort of the HD project. I like FFXIII very much.
But when I tried to install the textures, the bat file always showed the following error:
Error: Can not run this batch file from the Final Fantasy directory.
No matter I unpack the files to FFXIII installation folder or other folders.

I did not install the former version, and I do not find anywhere to modify the directory info.
    How could I solve it?

So what is supposed to happen is the install process is looking to try to see if you installed the mod in the actual game directory. It does this as it creates temporary game files that it then deletes later. If you install the mod in the same directory as the original game files, it will delete them and the game will be unplayable. However in your case it seems to think that the mod is always in the game directory. If you are sure you have the mod in a different directory then you can try this. Edit the file "FFXIII HD Setup.b" with a text editor (Notepad will work). Near the top there are two lines

@echo Error: Can not run this batch file from the Final Fantasy directory.
      exit /B 1

If you delete both of these lines (or technically only the "exit /B 1") then it should get past this problem. Technically the "/B 1" is incorrect and I need fix that, but that is not your problem. Also, let me know if your the text in your file doesn't match the above two lines exactly.

I am downloading the current version from Nexus just to verify the files, but give this a try. Assuming I don't find anything wrong, then it's possible that there is some odd windows condition I am not aware of that is not making the check not work properly.

Edit: Would your game directory be in the root of your drive? (ex. "D:\FINAL FANTASY XIII"), and if so, is this the same drive you are using for the mod?

Thanks for the reply, and after remove those two lines, the patch can be installed normally.
But after installation, the game stopped at "SQUARE ENIX" logo.
I will try installation again to see if there is anything abnormal...

Hey Greenthumb, hope you are doing good.
I had to reinstall FFXIII again , i installed HD Mod. I have the the original HD mod file , copied the contents from patch 2 into it & then from version2 to v3 into it , overwriting all files & installed the mod.
Now am trying to do update 2-1 (by copying the content to the above made folder & overwriting files), but it gives mod directory error.

    Any suggestions?
Shall i overwrite the files via "version 2 to version3" update files again & rerun the full mod?

If you copied the Version 2 to version 3 into the directory before you ran (installed) the main mod it then you do not have to do anything else since you started with a new install. All that is left is to install patch 3.0.2 and follow the instructions in the file. Technically if you had the original HD, then copied patch 2, ver 2 to 3 and then patch 3.0.2 into the mod directory (in that order) before you installed it, then you wouldn't need to do anything else.

Correct. I think you're all set as long as you do the 3.0.2 patch (or loaded it before you installed).

Hi just installed the new Main updated mod, installed flawlessly. When I load the game though, it just hangs on a black screen after loading and never goes anywhere even though I can hear the music and SFX playing. I am unable to tab out or even close the game with some other manner. Only thing im able to do is logout and force a shutdown.

    Setup:
    Windows 10
    Ryzen 6 3600x
    Radeon 5700xt
    16GB Ram

Edit: Works for a bit in Windowed mode but tends to just lock up randomly.

Edit 2: Mod is randomly working for now it seems.

I've read a lot about troubles with the 5700xt and DX9, I'm assuming that the game played fine before the install? Was this just an update to the mod, or is this the first time you installed it? Are you using the ff13fix?

So it appears to be a weird bug I randomly figured out. Start a new game get to the first save and make a new save file. After that any save you have works with the mod no problems, not sure why it works this way but its how im playing now. This was with a clean install of the MOD, i didnt use the fix as it says it's for Nvidia cards.

Edit: While the game is working fine now, there is another issue thats arose. I get weird lines going through characters and some pixelated graphics here and there. Its only when in the open world though, battle its fine. Here's a pic of the issue, ive circled the areas its happening.

      https://ibb.co/C6xv0bD

Edit 2: Fixed this problem by running the game at 1080p, was running it at 2k and even though I have a 2k monitor and setup I was getting that weird AA issue. It seems to be completely gone at 1080p

Edit 3: This game is truly a strange port... So ill explain everything ive learned recently.
      1. Game wont load unless you have more then 1 save.
      2. Game wont play right in 2k, it gives you really weird and messed up AA and lots of pixelation
      3. Game wont run in 1080p, it will load and play for a bit but always end up locking up... funny note at 1080p Snows jacket emblem renders perfectly at least.
      4. The sweet spot from what I can see, run it at 1900x1200. Plays fantastic and looks great, but on my large monitor I get black borders around the whole screen... And sadly Snows Jacket emblem doesnt render right at 1900x1200.

Edit 4: Last thing ive noticed... at 2k it seems the game is cutting the screen in half, and rendering the left half at a much lower resolution and the right half at a high resolution. In the above image i linked you can see it pretty well, how on all things there is a diagonal line through them.

Final note, MOD make the game look amazing and hard to believe its a PS3 title. I had alot of these problems with the AA and resolution pre MOD install, i think its just chalked up to the shitty port job they did. Good work on the MOD, im installing the FMV upscales as well!

I believe your pixelated problem is a known bug in the game. There is a mod (fix) for the problems you are seeing called FF13Fix It also does wonders for the frame rate.

      Amazing! ill check it out!

Edit: fix does nothing really, I can uncap the frame rate and it fixes the 2k AA problem, but the pixelation is still there at 2k and now its locking up at 2k. The only way to have the game look amazing and play properly is at 1900x1200. When its set to that all the HD mods work and look great and the game never freezes. Only down side is snows messed up jacket.

I've been staring at "Searching for the Steam Final Fantasy XIII Directory. Please Wait..." for a while and nothing is happening. I've even tried to specify the path in a txt file like I've seen suggested in the thread but it hasn't changed anything. Is there something else I can do?

EDIT: Nvm I just had to wait an ungodly amount of time but it finally worked.

Yes, there is no finesse in the method I use to find the FF13 directory. It is brute force. It literally goes through every hard drive and every directory looking for the game files. On the positive side, you only need to go through this process once as long as you don't move your game directory or delete the file the mod creates. Also, if you download any of my other mods you can copy the FFXIII_Dir.txt file from this one into the other mod directories saving yourself some time (and aggravation).

Hello, I was able to install patch 1.0.0 and patch 2.0.0 without issues, both english and japanese audio. But for update patch 2-1, i receive an error saying the mod directory structure is missing. i looked in the comments to see if anyone had any results with update 2-1 but i haven't seen any notes on it yet. Would there be someone that can assist with some information on this?

Yes, that is a known issue. I just uploaded a new version that also fixed a critical bug that was introduced in Patch 2.0.0 that prevented the environmental textures from loading. If you've unzipped the main mod, patch 2.0.0 and Update 2-1 (which it sounds like you have, even though you got the error), then download the optional file "Ver 2 to Ver 3 Update". Unzip into your mod directory, then rerun the main mod. This should correct all the problems.

Let me know if it doesn't seem to work. There should be a noticeable difference in the the environment, especially at 4k and when you do close-ups of the surroundings (rocks, plants, bridges, etc.) Distance things, not so much as it will be using lower resolution mipmaps for those, but there may be a bit of additional clarity, especially in text like objects.

i redownloaded the new files you updated and did full refresh install with FF13. It seems the HD textures are working. But i did find that Snow has some texture issues when in battle. the Color seems to be distorted. It probably could be fixed with the model swap. But i wanted to let you know. Also for some reason when i go to the abilities for each character, it will crash the game. I am not sure if its related to the FF13fix file.

I'll take a look at Snow (and co.) as soon as I can. I had to change the way I did some of the PC textures since all of Snow's emblems are called the same thing in-game and there might be a problem with it. If it's what I think it might be, it should be a quick and easy fix. Haven't heard anything about the ability problem, but I'll try that out as well.

I found out the ability problem was with the FF13fix file. It looks like i was using a higher version. 1.4.3 seems to resolve that issue. But Snow on the new patch looks like the textures are showing up green on his jacket. Thanks!

I tried several emblems for Snow and they all worked. Which one(s) are you having problems with, or is it all of them? I'll keep trying different things to see if I can duplicate the problem.

When you installed the HD mod, it should have asked you a question regarding the PC characters. Did you install the HD textures, or skip them?

Just installed the HD Project...Snow's jacket is all f***ed up during combat (But no other time). It seems to be the only glitch. I tried using an HD model mod to fix it but that didn't work. Seems he's stuck with screwed up textures. Not a huge deal but still a bit annoying

You're the second person to mention Snow jacket. I wasn't able to reproduce the problem before, but I think I have an idea what is causing it and may have to rethink how I do Snow's emblems. Installing the HD model of Snow should fix the problem as the HD model doesn't use emblems. (Using the model mod and selecting 'Original', however, will probably not solve the problem).

Edit: So I am still having trouble duplicating the problem. Everything I'm trying works. I will make a change shortly to the HD Model mod that should correct the issue if you go back to "original", however, since I can't duplicate the problem, I can't be sure it will work. I will try a few more things.

Edit #2: I take back what I said about not being able to duplicate the problem. I see it on some of the emblems (Power Circle for one), but not on others.

Edit #3: It appears that it was only a problem with the Power Circle emblem that wasn't getting loaded with the rest of the emblems. Patch 3.0.2 has been uploaded and instructions on how to fix the problem. Note that you will have to update all the main PCs to correct this problem, so if you use the HD Model Plus (the old Model Swap) mod, then you will have to reload the characters. I plan on adding a fix to Snow's Original & HQ installer at some point.

Hello, I would like to comment, download the 6GB patch today and install everything perfect. Because the first version of the patch threw me an error and it did not install correctly. When I first talked about this, I saw that everything was well installed, but it didn't work. But the patch that improves character textures worked, yes. Now it occurred to me to install the patch again and I see that it weighs 6 GB. I downloaded the patch and installed it. It worked perfectly and the game now looks more beautiful than before. But there is a problem that I saw, in the beach scene, when he snows the question to his friends: Where is Serah? I go to the wooden bridge and see in the distance a completely black rectangle, like a piece of the environment that does not load correctly, I speak of the place where it snows, he proposed to marry Serah. If I find other errors, I will report them to help make everything look more beautiful. Once again, I want to thank you for your great work on this remastering and for everyone involved. Because the game really looks amazing. I hope to see this quality in Final Fantasy XIII-2 or at least in Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII. Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII, I see that it would cost less to improve it, right? It is shorter than Final Fantasy XIII or XIII-2. The same takes work and time.

Processor: Intel Core I5 7 Generation
      Ram: 16GB
Video card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 - 4GB
I play the Japanese game version.

oh, when I installed the patch, I was given the option to choose which version to install in Japanese or English. Obviously install Japanese, as I described earlier that I play the Japanese audio version. But for the textures to remain in the English audio version, do I have to install everything again? . It is that I like both voices and if at any time I want to change to English voices, I would like to keep the textures. But the quality remains in the 2 versions, right?.

Hello, before downloading the small patch, now I wanted to update the English version, but I got an error. This error appears after choosing between the (E)nglish or (J)apanase version and pressing "E", thus updating that version.
      The next:

Problem detected in environment files. Files may not be in original format.
To proceed past this point, you will need to revert the environmental zone files back to their original state either through backup copies you made, or by having Steam verify the integrity of the game. Note that having Steam verify the game will result in the loss of all mods.

That error indicates that the installer already thinks that some of the English language environment files have already been modified so it can't get a copy of the base game files. This can occur if you already installed this mod sometime in the past, and are now running this mod from a new directory, or you have deleted the "models\orig" directory. All of the HD mods that work on the textures expect that when you update/upgrade the mod version that you just continue to use the same directory, overwriting any of the old files. If you have two "HD Project" mod directories, then you can copy the "models\orig" directory from one to the other, overwriting any existing files as they should be the same. If you had an older mod directory and you deleted it, then there isn't much you can do but have Steam verify the integrity of the game files and then reinstall all the mods. If neither of these two situations apply, let me know and I can suggest some other actions.

Ahh I understand, thank you very much. At least the Japanese version is perfect and the mini patch was recently installed perfect on that version. In the English version it also showed a bug with that mini patch. Also, the only folder I have for the mod is the one I downloaded yesterday. I removed the old one and the game location remains the same. I never altered the location of the game.

It sounds like the problem you are having on the English version is because you deleted the old mod directory and the actual English game files are already modified. This mod requires the original game file in order to install correctly, otherwise the game will not work, so it checks them before it tries to install.

As for the LOD, Microsoft Direct X uses DDS (Direct Draw Surface) texture files to "skin" the models. Within the DDS files are multiple mipmaps, or smaller resolution versions of the main image. When a model is being rendered in the distance, you don't need the full resolution image to display it, so it uses one of the smaller resolution ones generally for speed. Say for example, you have a 1024 x 1024 texture image of a ball. If you're very close to the ball, then you need a high resolution picture to make it look visually good. However, if this same ball is far away, and now much smaller, you might only need a 256 x 256 or smaller image as there aren't as many pixels on the screen to display. This speeds the rendering of distant objects (and some quality things too). What setting a negative LOD does, is cause the game to utilize a larger resolution image for display. So for the ball example, if the game normally wanted to use a 256 x 256 image for the ball, a negative LOD might force it to use a 512 x 512 image. Using a slightly larger image size can improve visual quality on larger resolution displays. However, if you go too big, then the game will do the downsizing of the image to fit the object and it doesn't do that very well. In a sense, it tells the game you are closer to an object than you really are making it use a higher quality image for display. Hopefully I've explained it reasonably well.

Good to hear. I'm not surprised about the 8gb ram though. The game itself can only use 2gb and Steam has protected the .exe so it's not easy to set the large address aware bit to allow it to use 4gb (well, really 3gb, - like what the 4GB Patch tool normally does).
