Hey everyone! Wanted to drop a quick update for the Struggle for Freedom Mod, which is now onto version 1.9.2! Before diving into what 1.9.2 does, I want to emphasize two major important things:
This is not the content update that I'm planning on releasing sometime in the future. This is more of a necessary update that fixes some bugs and reduces file bloat (I'll go into detail below). So still an important update, but this is mostly back-end fixes.
I did not develop this update - all credit goes to Xeavin, FFGriever, and Akita for this update. Seriously, they're awesome. Anyone who's been following SFF updates has seen that life has me basically completely away from modding for any major portion of dedicated time, so I can't thank them enough for helping with this update.
So what does this update entail? Some big things:
The mod size is significantly decreased due to a huge number of redundant files being removed. This not only helps increase download speeds for users with poor internet connections, but also helps greatly increase compatibility with other mods.
The custom title screen can now be disabled as an option during install, a request that many people were asking for.
Several random bugs were fixed, such as the Hybrid Gator not attacking in Ozmone Plain as well as the job symbols being replaced by character portraits during non-Struggle/Freedom playthroughs.
There were some compatibility issues with the most recent Vortex extension update, which this update fixes.
Again, full credit for this update goes to Xeavin and FFGriever. I will also be updating the Proud Mode version of SFF with this in the next day or so and I'm looking into ways to decrease the size and increase the ease of readability of the documentation as well, so keep an eye on updates for those as well. It's been almost 4 years to the day (give or take a little less than a month) since the last SFF update. As always, thank you to everyone who has played this mod, contributed to it, and offered feedback - both positive and negative. It's all appreciated! Please let me know if you run into any issues with this update. Looking forward to the large gameplay update soon(tm)! WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU KEEP THE SAME TERRIBLE RNG CHEST SPAWN OF THE ORIGINAL GAME BUT MENTION IN THE RFFS CHANGELIST THE SPAWN RATE CHANGED, AND WHEN I GO THE TREASURE DOC, YOU HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVE THE f*#@ing AUDACITY THE AUDACITY TO MAKE THE SPAWN RATE THE SAME? ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNND MAKE THE LOOT IN THE CHESTS WORSE? AT THE SAME f*#@ing
Iv enjoyed the challenge up to this point, stayed low level to make it interesting havnt farmed, and when I get to this point excited to get gear I've never touched before in any of my ff12 runs, and done all the content without them, I AM NOW disapointed because its the same 5%.
f*#@ off change the rrfs doc to make it clear you didnt change shit.
I don't really understand the thought process behind some of the changes to character stats. Balthier definitely doesn't feel like he should have the highest vitality or be the slowest, that feels way more fitting for Basch. Fran would logically have the highest speed too, she is literally a rabbit. Balthier's stats are also just really trash, he seems objectively weaker than everyone else.
More subjectively, I think Ashe fits better as having good strength and magick to fit a Bushi or Redmage playstyle, especially since none of the other party members fill that niche statwise. Balthier or Vaan would fit better as the middle of the road character in my opinion. Vaan because the protagonist usually fills that roll and Balthier because it would fit his character, especially since he doesn't really come off as specializing in anything in particular.
Also unrelated but the Masamune being changed to 1-handed sucks because it uses ugly 1 handed sword animations.
Im just nitpicking though, the mod is great so far.
Balthier casts First Aid regardless of whether or not he has a gambit set up for it. Is that intended or am I looking at possible mod conflicts that need sorting?
Hey guys. I can't run this mod. I install it without errors, I checked the updates, both from Vortex and the mod, I checked the game's mod manager and it is in the latest version and Vortex installs the mod without errors but it has no effect on the game. It's as if I hadn't installed anything. I've already uninstalled and installed vortex, I've already checked the integrity of the game's base files, anyway, I don't know what's happening, this mod isn't working.
I am having the exact same issue. I hope someone can figure out what this issue actually is. I have tried literally everything I can think of to make this thing work, and it just refuses.
I had the same problem and found the fix. The new version of Vortex doesn't download or indicate that an external loader is needed. Just a small red "1" from the "alert" menu pointed that out. Install that, and you're good to go
Hi. I too have encountered this problem. Here is the site https://easytube.pro/ to make it more convenient for you to watch the guides. It is very easy to use, downloads videos quickly. I recommend it.
hi fantastic mod! but i have a question. i'm unsure if this is a bug or not but I've been using fire on the toads in Giza plains (rains) which are weak to fire but somehow the damage from the spell is absurdly low (like 70 damage when frans normal attack is like 300) i'm just wondering if theirs some sort of issue with this. the damage values on all other critters I've come across thus far seem perfectly fine its just this one instance on these toads thats bothering me. even when the oil procs she still ends up doing less then half the damage of her normal attack to them which seems....unintentional :D i haven't tried the newest version of your mod just yet though if you already addressed this somehow ignore me :D ill be updating the version asap. but thanks for your effort on this mod its drastically needed to make this game a much more enjoyable experience! :D and i love what you've done with the struggle boards. it could just be a situation where the toads for some odd reason have high magick defenses, or maybe i just suck go figure :D
Hello! Thanks for the post, and I'm glad you're enjoying it! There's a couple of things that could be going on here. The first thing to keep in mind is that Giza (Rains) is awful for Fire. The rain makes Fire abilities do less damage, and if you're using a Bow instead of a Staff on Fran, chances are that your Magick isn't quite as high as it could be. Also, Fire/Thunder/Blizzard (level 1) also have very low base power, so at a certain part in the game they just start being far less effective because of enemy Resistance. When I'm home from work, I'll check the enemy's Resistance to see if there's a bug with them, but I think the biggest thing that's hurting you is that Fire is a level 1 spell, and it's raining.
If Fran is an Archer, try Burning Bow & Fire Arrows combo. If Fran is a Mage, try equipping her with a Flame Staff and the best +magick equipment that you have. I feel Eternal has a point when it comes to the weather influencing spells in particular ways.
:O thanks guys i'm pretty confident i just suck ;) but thanks for your very helpful responses! i actually had no idea weather played into damage formulas in this game. i never really had a reason to pay close attention to actual game mechanics before because the game was just too damn easy. now that has obviously changed :D lmao. i guess thats a testament to how bad this game needed a mod like this :D

Check out this great video by Talanath. His steps differ a bit from the Readme's, but the end result is the same. Hopefully this helps!

I dont get why Iv read through all these posts, and you swear the diamond armlet almost always gives you the rare item, it clearly doesnt.
