    Vortex Mod Manager Compatibility Notice
After testing out Vortex, I decided it added a lot of extra crud to a relatively simple process already done with Draklab Mod Loader (DML).  For me personally, I'll stick with DML for the time being.  I plan to make some Vortex-compatible mod versions when time permits.

I've updated the compatibility instructions to be both more clear and more precise in how to accomplish the goal. Special thanks to Luke aka Luke#2686 on Discord for their assistance in testing things out to make sure they work properly with Vortex.

I've included images where appropriate to help with the process.
Before doing any steps, be sure the FF12 game is COMPLETELY closed alongside exiting out of Vortex iself entirely.

    • Identify the mod you want to download.

    • Go to 'Preview File Contents' to see the directory structure of the mod in question.

    • In the example, you want to extract the mod 'here' instead of extracting to a seperate additional folder. Using the example above, rename the 'Daedalus' mod folder above to read 'ff12data' instead.
    • Your resulting file structure should look like this now

    • Put all of that above into a new .zip file and name it whatever you want (ideally matching the name of the mod itself to keep things organized).
    • Load it up into Vortex and it should now take effect in-game. Enjoy!
I only provide technical support and help with MY mods, but if anyone needs general non-technical FF12 help then feel free to poke me on my FreshGaming Discord if you require any assistance.

If you're the one that joined my Discord server, I already created a custom version of the mod that satisfies these needs (removes black bars in cutscenes, also removes black bars in all menu/UI bits).

All of the Cutscenes Unleashed & files are commented, but if I ever update them I'll be sure to clarify the file comments so people feel ok with modifying a bit on their own too.

If anyone wants it, feel free to join up on my Discord server for the file at the moment.  I'll drop the file here when I get around to doing so later on sometime.  Soon (TM).

There should be a modding utility still up on Nexus that allows you to select that skin and apply it to any greatsword weapon.  Please get in touch with me on Discord so that I can get you some direct assistance with that.

Been busy for 4th of July preparations and celebrations this weekend so I'll respond when I can. :)

    April 2023 Update
    Time flies, doesn't it?  :)

Many things I wanted to do have been unable to be done due to a variety of factors.  World-ending plagues notwithstanding, I've suffered some personal IRL issues outside of my control that have made life in general far more of a high-priority over modding.  I haven't even touched FF12 in over a year so it has been on a lowest-priority for me for the forseeable future.

So basically once I can get my desktop up and running again (long story but yeah, RIP) I can pull the files from my old drive and then get some much-needed maintenance done including Vortex-compatible repacked versions.  I will do what I can on my end and mark them as 'Beta' until enough testing/feedback is done so that I know they work properly before marking them as a 'Release' version.

My current priorities as I said are IRL.  Other stuff including Nexus will have to wait for the time being.  As always if anyone needs urgent assistance with any of my mods, get in touch with me on Discord.  My contact info should be on the main mod page.

I haven't forgotten my list of things to do.
-Vortex Compatibility = once I get stuff back up and running to recover files I'll plan to have this done before end of this year
-Documentation = this may take a bit but I'll make a solid effort this year to get this done
-Specific Mod Updates = maybe this year, this is definitely a lowest-priority thing for me to do as other mods are much better at changing things now

As always, feedback is key not just for me but many other modders as well.  We don't know what people want unless they communicate it.  I know you all have phones (heh) and Nexus Accounts if you are downloading mods anyways.  Use said account to drop a note or send a PM via the Nexus forums.  It is a bit of a clunky system but it does work!  :)

Would I be correct in assuming the mods here should now be installed with vortex instead of draklab's mod loader? A comment on draklab's mod loader page claims that vortex should be used instead due to draklab "being inferior in every way" and the ff12-vbf.exe file on drak being outdated. Honestly all I really want is your black bar removal for cutscenes, I haven't really decided if I want to add any other FF12 mod (here or elsewhere) as I've never actually played it.

I keep putting Nexus on the back-burner due to more pressing IRL concerns at the moment.  My sincere apologies for the delay on updates.

I did post a 'Vortex Mod Compatibility' Notice (sticked post at the top) that should suffice for getting any of my mods (minus the FOV changer) to work in Vortex.  When I had last attempted to use Vortex years ago near when it launched, I found the process cumbersome and obtuse for my liking.

Please let me know if the Vortex Mod Compatibility notice process works for your situation.
I lack the current time to do testing personally on my end.  I haven't even touched FF12 in well over a year so I sincerely hope that Vortex has improved their process significantly since the earlier days.

If you'd like personal assistance, reach me on my Discord server mentioned in the stickied post above.  Thanks!

Oh, its fine, I've modded bethesda games before and some of the mod authors there don't ever reply, so it's great when the mod author replies. Truth be told, I find vortex annoying to use myself since the UI feels like its designed like windows 8 which I loathed. I exclusively use MO2 for modding bethesda games.

I got vortex and It did work however, the annoying black bars in cutscenes are gone, so thanks! It did require me to download additional files in order to mod FF12 ( This loader and This LUA loader) - which honestly felt like draklab loader with extra steps - but a few people on the draklab mod page seem to recommend vortex over it so I'll follow their advice.

Hi!  I'm glad that you got things working!

Yeah it seems that Vortex is hit or miss depending on whom you want to ask.  There is a bit of extra configuration for Vortex that turns people like myself away from it.  The LUA Loader you mentioned is a required part for Vortex to work.  The other link you posted was to a 'Cactite Vaan' mod which I'm not sure is what you intended.

DrakLab requires a bit of setup and organization (specific mod files in a specific folder directory in a specific order), but once you have that it works really well with no fuss or extra stuff required; similar to how many prefer to perform actions using scripting and command line.
Using Vortex is similar to those who want a fancy GUI and have everything just handled for them without having to type any commands or really worry about specifics.
Both have their benefits and drawbacks.  Me being a 'power user' I prefer the former while many prefer the latter.  It really just comes down to personal preference IMHO.

      Hello and thanks for commenting!

In order to troubleshoot this issue, I need to know specifically which mod(s) you have used from my Daedalus Mega ModPak as well as any other mods (not created by me) which you may be using.  Mod intercompatibility is often difficult to ascertain without specific testing.  What I can say is that on the download page for mods you can see exactly which game files are being modified by my mods.  Any other mods that modify those same files will conflict with my mods without some significant workarounds.

To my knowledge, I'm not aware of any of my mods causing issues with job changing or any specific NPCs.  I suspect this may potentially be something outside my purview, but I require more detailed information to reach a conclusive viewpoint.

My FOV Changer, as noted before, is an external program run alongside the game rather than a core 'mod' for the game itself so it shouldn't interfere with any FF12 mod if ran alongside it.

I see you posted on the 20th of November and I apologize for that.  Thanksgiving Holiday plus the YearEnd Holiday stuff has kept me busy in the interim along with other IRL priorities.  If you require a more immediate response, please contact me on Discord.  Just send a message to me on Discord at Daedalus007#6878 and mention that you're contacting from Nexus regarding an FF12 mod issue.

I hope you are enjoying the game.  Cheers!  :)

Hi, thanks for posting!  Seems I've gotten a surge of new posters with the Halloween spooky time :)
I can assist with this if you reach out to me as it involves a bit more than a single post can do.
The best place to reach me is on Discord (Daedalus007#6878 @ FreshGaming Discord) if you need a more immediate/timely response, but you can also post here if you are ok waiting a bit for me to check back in.

Update Jan 8 2023:  I was contacted by this user on Discord and assisted them with their modding needs.

Yes there is a way to do so.  My memory is a bit fuzzy but it involves messing around with values that are edited by my existing Cutscenes Unleashed mods; I am happy to help with getting this working for you.  The best place to reach me is on Discord (Daedalus007#6878 @ FreshGaming Discord) if you need a more immediate/timely response, but you can also post here if you are ok waiting a bit for me to check back in.

For the love of god, could someone please tell me how to install this mod? Why isn't there any kind of explanation in the description page?

I'm no newbie when it comes to modding but this one drives me insane. No Vortex shenanigans please, I don't like it and won't use it. A manual install I can handle.

    Thanks in advance.

Pardon the (almost month-long) late response.  I don't check Nexus as often as I used to and am mostly on Discord.
As explained in my January 2022 stickied post above, I have to redo a lot of documentation to more clearly explain how to install things.

If you want to forgo the 'Vortex' method, I would recommend using 'DrakLab Mod Loader' as it will allow you to enable/disable mods while keeping track of changes to the VBF file itself.  Still always helpful to make a backup of the VBF file just in case.

Every mod should come with a readme that explains and details how to install it and what changes it does (some older mods don't mention changes but I'll happily provide this info if needed until I update the documentation).  Since this page is for the 'Mega ModPak' of all my mods under one home, it would help if I got more details on exactly what mod you're trying to install.  The best place to reach me is on Discord (Daedalus007#6878 @ FreshGaming Discord) if you need a more immediate/timely response, but you can also post here if you are ok waiting a bit for me to check back in.  If you do send me a random friend request, be sure you specify in your initial post that you're from Nexus Mods seeking tech assistance for this ModPak.

    January 2022 Update

    --Intro--
New year, new modding!  In barely 3 years, the state of FF12 modding has gone through a massive set of changes.  I am still both humbled and honored when seeing how many people still find my mods useful and are willing to download/use them despite other alternatives from other authors being made available.
Rather than set myself a deadline that I may (more than likely) miss, I feel it is better to do a general sense of potential future updates instead.

    --Aspects--
Priority:  Vortex Compatibility.  Currently the mods are 'vortex compatible' (aside from my FOV Changer utility) but need to be extracted and then re-archived in a specific way.  This is going to be my first priority for most of my existing mods that I don't plan to update.

Secondary:  Documentation.  Many of my mods have outdated/incomplete documentation, specifically the 'Equipment Mod' and a few others.  I've also since changed my Discord username from Daedalus#6878 to Daedalus007#6878 and some of my older mods have yet to reflect this change.  Documentation also includes updating/adding to my articles as well as adding additional mod images to better reflect the variety and capacity of the 'Daedalus Mega ModPak' which has grown to be a core pillar of FF12 modding (often included in some other mods without any attribution).

Tertiary:  Specific Mod Updates.  These will be sporadic, but the main ones on the list will be a redo of my license board mods.  I want to re-add every tech that I had previously removed (like Poach) so as to allow for a wider variety of playstyles similar to the original.  Then, I want to make a set of 'no changes' boards that only rearrange licenses for each job but do not add nor remove any licenses whatsoever.  Because of how fractured the FF12 modding community has become (egos notwithstanding), I feel it is best to spread knowledge by word of mouth instead of depending on other factors.

    --Outro--
I still firmly believe that it should be up to the end-user to use whatever mods they are comfortable with (or even forgo them entirely if so desired).  I will endeavor do to my best in this regard towards the three aspects outlined above.  Beyond that, I feel that FF12 as a game would honestly do best in a 'game engine remake' of sorts.  However, other Japanese RPGs have already taken the bar and raised it signfiicantly higher since the Playstation 2 days of FF12's initial release.  Even fully-online fully-multiplayer games like Phantasy Star Online 2 have done far more than FF12 ever could.  Beyond what I have mentioned, my modding days for FF12 are basically completed.

I've abandoned my years-old 'hardcore mod' ideas as other mods like the fantastic 'Struggle for Freedom' mod by Eternal248 have done almost everything I wanted to do and then some alongside years of careful tweaking, balancing, and bugtesting.  I have seen many 'rebalancing' and 'difficulty' mods.  However, the work of Eternal248's, in my humble opinion, is of the highest quality and well worth your time!  For those looking for visual upgrades, there are fantastic 'Enhanced Texture' mods by the awesome Skopin!

Ok so in the top image i've highlighted the correct one that you would want to download for your needs.
Under 'Optional Files' it is the one called 'BarlessParty and Cutscenes Unleashed UI Mod'.

If you require further technical assistance, it would be a good idea to join up on my Discord server and ask me directly so I can provide live 1 on 1 support.  Thank you!
