Version 1.1.0 was just released, which expands targeting and companion command range, gives fleeing higher priority, and includes other bug fixes. Here is the changelog which goes into the whole scope of this update.
A hotfix (v1.1.1) was released soon afterwards which fixes an issue characters in towns couldn't be targeted to view their names and had no talk icon above their heads.

the overhead icons for NPCs goes away. In towns and anywhere so you have to refer to your mini map to see who you can talk to. Makes the aerodome a bit rough and luckily i past it already but the Arcadia quest is probably a nightmare with this on lol.
You cannot create a bug report in the bug section as 95% of the bugs reported are user error and I don't want that page to be filled with wrong information. I move the related posts there myself if necessary.
I have confirmed the issue and also released a hotfix now. Thanks for reporting it.
