with reshade 6.0.1 half of the addons can not be complied and these are marked as red lines on details window in reshade thus it is now unuseable
    it is sorted now
one thing worth to mention, there is around 30-35% drop of FPS once reshade applied correctly

Dude installing Reshade deletes all saves and game settings each time I quit the game. I tried everything like making folders read only etc.  :((

After playing around a bit more with the preset, I noticed there is an issue with the MagicBloom and AmbientLight shaders.

They seems to be affecting not only the environment, but also UI elements, which looks really jarring. I've read online it's possible to create a mask for the UI to prevent those issues, but that's a bit beyond my current abilities.

Do you have any idea on how this can be accomplished?

EDIT: I figured it out and implemented it myself after a few hours

Here is a link to a custom shader I found and edited a bit, which filters out the effects of the bloom:
    https://pastebin.com/YLK7KmQQ
To use it, name it BloomMask.fx and place it in the folder reshade-shaders/Shaders

It works kinda like the UImask shader, in which it adds a PreBloom and PostBloom effect. If you put the MagicBloom and AmbientLight in between those two, then it won't apply their effect to the UI elements.

This effect works with a custom image I made of the UI elements. This only works for 1920x1080, as that's my screen resolution. Here is the image link:
    https://imgur.com/a/KjrnQhH
Name the image BloomMask.fx and place it in the folder reshade-shaders/Textures
This is not a perfect solution, as i've cut the bloom effects out of the static as well as dynamic UI elements, but having those glow when in the dark looked way weider to me than the alternative.
To reduce the weird visual effects of this workaround, I've made a version that only messes with static UI elements + flashlight

And another one for exclusively the static elements:

To understand what I'm talking about, here is the visual example:
Reshade preset without edits (notice UI glowing, illuminating dark, immersion-breaking):

    UI after edits (no glow):

Feel free to work this into your preset if you wish. I had never tinkered with Reshade to this extent, but alas, here it is

I actually quite like that glow in the dark, but I am glad you found a way to disable it.

Oh man, this reshade is amazing! The game looks much cleaner and the lighting is much more realistic and immersive. It's really a night and day difference.

For anyone wondering how to get this to work, I installed the Reshade 5.9.2 Addon version and just loaded the effects off the .txt file. The regular version did not seem to work.

Though I think some of the effects are a bit excessive, both in the visual and performance department. I was tinkering a bit with your preset and a few effects either mess a bit too much with the intended feel of the lighting or are way too demanding to keep a steady 60 fps (and I have a preety beefy rig).

I'd personally advise turning off the following effects:
    - HDR - makes everything too dark
    - FilmicPass - really dislike this visual effect; makes the image look deep fried imo
    - HighpassSharp - could not spot the difference tbh
    - Ambientlight - makes light nicer, but makes lighted areas much too bright compared to vanilla
    - SMAA - adds too much blur for the antialiasing it provides; try looking at a brick wall with it on and off and see all the jitter
    - GaussianBlur - adds a TON of blur and drastically drops the FPS; just not worth it AT ALL for the MASSIVE performance loss and the visual improvement is debatable

Other than that, I like all the other effects and they come together really nicely to improve the lighting, atmosphere and clarity. It somehow even makes the textures look better. Really nice work!

i got the 1.08 version, is it compatible?
My game looks the same as your screenshot. Does this mod improve the visuals, the textures?

I re-ran the platinum collection as well as updated reshade to 5.9.2 which had no issues running my reshade patch.

I would suggest ensuring if you have reshade installed. To use DirectX 9 as your rendering API as well as installing all plugins. There are certain plugins that are not compiling which I am not using for my reshade patch so its safe to ignore this.

Could you explain what is going on? Just to clarify. Are you installing all default plugins for ReShade?

For anyone still coming here in 2022- install is easy.

Extract the download somewhere you will easily find it.
    Install reshade setup.
launch reshade setup and select F.E.A.R. (FEAR .EXE)
    Select DirectX 9. (not 10/11/12)
    Select install reshade
Where is says "Select Preset to Install" navigate to and select the extracted file (wg-fear-reshade_v1_7)
Keep clicking next and then finish.

Done. Use "home" or "insert" on your keyboard to access settings.

Howdy from the future. I want to thank you for your help here on providing accurate information. Sadly with so much going on in my life, I was not able to fix or further work on the mod. But I may revamp the mod in the future and change a ton more. Kudos again for helping out the community while I was away all this time!
