Just my opinion, not a complaint. But if this is supposed to be more like a realistic rural America, then the Resistance would have more Vietnam leftovers and Law Enforcement weapons But no Russian-made weapons.
Just like in reality, a resistance group would have leftovers from an older war they were involved in. Where several decades have passed to allow for the weapons to trickle back into the country via the black market. But you would not count Operation Enduring Freedom or Desert Storm, as the military was more secure during these times and not many weapons from these periods made their way to the states. But the Vietnam War and WWII (where the MG42 came from) on the other had were such big disorganized messes, lots of stuff came back and found themselves in the hands of private civilians. Also, included in that inventory would be anything from their police departments (like the MP5) and anything they traditionally used for hunting.
So the AK-47 should not be available to the Resistance, but they should have all the Vietnam (DLC) and hunting weapons in the game, and the MP5 (police). The M249 was not used until Desert Storm, so it would be unlikely they would have this as well. But obviously you are trying to maintain a balance, so maybe that's optional. I guess you can hypothetically say they got it from their local National Guard groups.
Let's move on..... As in reality again, an intruding enemy on the other hand, would most likely have imports from all over the world, backed by their black market counterparts and illegal operations funding. So the Peggies would probably have access to everything. It's good that you gave them the SVD as that is Russian, so they would use that. But I would take the MP5s away from the Peggies and leave them to the Resistance.
Everything else in your list seems pretty logical. Good job. I was only trying to help you out with the "realistic" part.
The reason behind both sides having AKs is that I've used the American gun hobby community as a reference - so, so many "generic" AK-style rifles. Since the Whitetails are formed before the PEG-takeover, I'm picturing them modifying AKs into full auto in secret and trading them to people they know. They did modify their AR-Cs and made a signature AK...
I'm thinking about adding the MG42 back into the game since it could very well be a MG3... But the Peggies have too much firepower.
I'm kind of disappointed by the system that some Vietnam guns aren't fully scripted to appear in the main game. Vietnam AKs and M500s for example will glitch out if they're looted from modern NPCs.
I see the resistance being split between 3 real groups when it comes to weapons - hunters, preppers and veterans/family of veterans suggesting that their weaponry would be split between old military surplus and kept service weapons as well as civilian firearms though you do have to remember that the jail is held by the resistance and would likely have some tactical firearms albeit older ones due to it being a rural county. As for the AKs I am a Montanan (granted not very rural) and I know several individuals who own legal semi autos of both modern AKs and the classic 47 and 74, not sure I know enough of them to warrant them appearing every couple NPCs. I see the vast majority of peggies being equipped with cheaper easier to obtain mass produced weapons along side family heirlooms and civilian firearms as well with the Chosen having no expense spared on them due to them being THE Chosen of the Project at Eden's Gate, more expensive modern and high tech firearms.
These arent random terrorists these peggies live in montana so do the resistance. They can and probably did just buy all their guns in america, legally. The peggies were just normal super religious people who acted a bit culty before all that started. They aren't an "intruding enemy" their families have lived in Montana for generations, did you even play the game? Have you ever been to a range or gun store? AKs are one of the easiest guns to find, "Should not be available." Resistance group using weapons from previous wars. They arent even resistance fighters, they are recruiting some and killing others, they don't care about bringing down the govt, they're just preparing for the bombs to drop. Unbelievable. More people in America own automatic weapons than hunting rifles anyways, thats why people want them banned cause they are so prevalent in the real world. Your sense of whats realistic is based on stereotypes and a vast misunderstanding of the game in general. They're pissed off Americans not jihadi extremists. Hilarious.
