Played through this entire mod. I have to say this was an ambitious project; To try and emulate a survival scenario in NYC based loosely on the film 'I am Legend' which is based on two previous films which were based on a short story.

    (The Last Man on Earth -1964 ? Science fiction film/Thriller ? 1h 28m
"The survivor (Vincent Price) of a global epidemic battles a race of zombie vampires in an adaptation of Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend.")

I love the genre, the milieu, everything it has to offer. Here are some (hopefully) objective criticisms about this mod:

    1. The scope is far too large. It's impossible to fit even a chunk of Manhattan into a FC4 mod and have it properly polished and made to appear as though it were abandoned without tons and tons of other design people.

    2. The incorporation of stores kind of destroys the concept of being alone and trying to survive in an unforgiving wasteland of a former metropolis. If any are still alive, they are hostile scavengers, nearly as mad or unilaterally infected. If that's the genre you want to capture.

    3. Naming the protagonist John Snow, which is not actually how his name is spelled in "A Game of Thrones" (which is tangential), seems lazy and frankly it takes the player out of the experience of being immersed in a virtual reality where panic and survival are everything. Immersion and good story telling, including namesake and voice work, is what will capture players.

    4. Some false advertising in that each mission will show you some entropic detail about your world "as it crumbles". There isn't actually a lot of delivery in that apart from the obvious destruction of the landscape. Let's see something more subtle. The slow decay of your reinforced safe houses, allies that become distrustful toward you because water and meds are scarce. Everyone is scared and hungry and barely able to work together.

    5. Zombies. This is a long dead (forgive the expression) genre at this point. It's not 2011, Zombie games really aren't captivating anymore, no one cares much. It's stale.
Even 'smart' Zombies is just a foregone platform and another cheap way to sell a story and include mindless action sequences. Try instead, intelligent former humans who will set traps for you (i.e. the mannequin in the Will Smith film). Or scavengers who will raid your safe houses, some constant threat to anything you thought was safe. Make the action feel absolutely DESPERATE. Like every bullet counts and most of the time running away is the only option to stay alive. Shooting in general would alert any conscious thing to your presence. Keep quiet.

That being said. I think you did a great job on capturing a sense of urgency and again, as ambitious as this project was, you made a nice homage without being overtly derivative.
This is merely the opinion of one man and certainly has no bearing on how other people perceive things despite any previous statement that was overgeneralizing. Also, I hope this is taken as constructive and not as any kind of insult or BS post. Merely observation from a consummate gamer and lover of good stories.

    Cheers!
Keep it up and make us something even more beautiful and engaging next time.

Noticed this mod on another popular modding site. It has piqued my interest, but I am trying to complete my game first, before I can try this big mod. I hope this mod is still actively being worked upon. I would really love to see it completed. Kudos given to farcryuniverse. Knowing how tough FC modding is, here's my sincere thanks for persevering with your fantastic modding efforts, and keep going - you have some ardent fans! I've seen the trailer, and mod looks great already. Well done so far, and all the best.

Little confused with installation. It says BOTH user maps, but I only have one. I also do not have any files above user maps. When I load up FC4, it just crashes.

Thanks Guys, I've been working on it since the Game Released in November, Here's a few extra Details:

    - There are Safe Zones in which you can visit! One or 2 of them can be used to fend off the Enemies, Medical Syringes will be placed inside each Safe zone so you can replenish health, along with Ammo too.

    - There's going to be missions added Post-Release of the mod, the initial release date brings the Free-Roam version of the mod, which will allow you to do whatever you want. Missions will be added within the first few weeks after release.

    - There are other survivors, one mission will be a timed mission where you must reach the survivors in a certain time, followed by the next mission which will involve defending the area which the survivors are in from waves of the undead.

    - There will be some on duty guards at Posts outside the Safe zones, so you will be able to sit back and watch them do their work.

    - I did try to see if I could get the tiger from the Shangri La missions in the main game to follow me around as my companion (as it would give a greater feel of companionship like the movie did) but I was unable to pull it off. Dunia Engine is VERY restricted in terms of modding, and there's little that can actually be done.

    - There are vehicles scattered across the City which work, however, it's not the easiest place to drive around, having said that it is possible, But these vehicles are the ones you see in the base game with no modifications (as stated Dunia is restricted)

    - Defending your base may be a unscripted event as the AI do move around freely, although there's a mission where the contamination has spread within some of the Safe Zones due to an internal survivor that's been bitten. Your job will be to clear out the "Danger Zones" to make them safe again.

    - I really do wish the Engine was easier to mod to make that possible, however it's not so Moving bases is a No

    - There are other surviving groups actually! In Fact there's two main surviving groups in the Mini Storyline, both caught in a feud which means killing one another to gather extra resources. Other than that there are sole survivors in the city who will either leave you alone, or try to kill you.

With the I AM LEGEND mod I am bringing to the table:-

    - Danger no matter on the time of day
    - A Mini Storyline which intends to hook the player in on a set list of missions.
    - Open World city like you've never seen it in a FPS with over 40 buildings to enter and explore
    - A short Cutscene video to play before Each and every mission with Custom made character voices and (hopefully) enticing scripts.
    - Characters who will draw you into the story even more, and again (hopefully) bringing you into the story so it feels a little less like Far Cry.
    - A very interesting Setting which Brings the Jungle into the city itself, with plenty of places to go, and things to do.
    - Lots of Looting opportunities, Hidden Objects to find, Corpses to loot and animals to skin.
    - A fully accessible shop to get rid of the loot in exchange for cash
    - Full Weapon Customization within the shops
    - Safe Houses spread across the city so you can hide away from the danger and stock up on supplies.
    - A secret area hidden within the City which will grant access to an arsenal of weapons.
    - Finally an experience which I hope you all enjoy, resulting to finding the mod Unique and enticing.

Last thing to say now to you all is:- 6 days until the initial release of the Open World and not long after, over 10 different story based missions.

      How are the missions coming?

Also some Q's (if you don't mind me asking):

Do the missions string together in any way (share ammo, progress, etc) or are they stand alone?

How about the zombies? Were you able to actually create something zombie-ish? I know for Dead Cry they used the Citraboss Minions and the few "zombie" maps I've seen for FC4 utilize the Shangrala demons.

I had some ideas on how to do really decent human zombies, but it require adding to the editor mod and I'm not sure I have the graphic chops to pull it off...

Thanks and keep up the good work!

The missions are progressing slowly, there's quite a bit of work to go still, but haven't had enough time off to get my head down, got time off over the next few days to progress a bit.

      No problem with answering questions

Missions are based on a Small Storyline, however they don't share ammo, but I will be trying to give an arsenal of weapons at the start of each mission based off what were available in the previous missions along with a few new ones, so i'd say it's a bit of both.

Unfortunately I've only got a limited knowledge of modding Far Cry, so the core game will be the same, no modifications to characters or anything like that. Dead Cry did have work down on custom zombies by re-texturing the look of characters, I did seek advice from the main creator of that mod, but he's too busy working on his indie game. So in answer to that question, I'm using ShangriLa Demons and will be adding the ShangriLa Dogs into it also.

Once the Mod is released, It's all fine to modify yourself! and if anyone modifies it and want's it to be added into the final mod all they need to do is message me, I can add it in there, Change up the credits and add names to all who help improve the mod.

Thanks for the questions, Keep your eyes out on here for more updates

I've had a few comments on different sites regarding the name of the character, it doesn't really matter too much, but I've changed it anyway, new name is now Blaine Parker

    Looking forward to this mod.

Just a few cents from me:
Zombie survival scenario will never be interesting without
    - base/safe zone: a place where to sleep/rest/treat serious wound, good if it could be fortified.
    - other survivors: It will be challenging to try to save survivors.
    - base defense: either base/safe zone are fortified or assign some survivors on guard's duty.
    - companion: other survivor may follow to fight or to gather supplies. in an apocalyptic scenario, working together will increase the survival chance.
    - vehicles: there might be still some vehicles that still have gas in it and can be used. it's a city anyway.
    - modified vehicle: vehicles can be fortified/modded to improve it's durability esp against zombie.
    - defending base: ocassionally zombie will attack or try to breach the base/safe zone, so player and available survivors should defend it.
    - move base/safe zone: when a better base/safe zone found, probably because it near water source, it will be good if someone can decide to move the base. moving base will require all survivors either to walk their way or using vehicle which may attract zombie attention thus someone need to gun them on the way.
    - other survivors groups: there might be other group of survivors staying in their base camp. trading is possible.
    - bandits/free looters: you can elaborate this on your own.

    more to come...
