You won't find any society, reign or even a internet forum that does not have rules. And by breaking the rules, you'll get punished. We got banned from paradise, and worse yet, we got disconnected from the life itself.
We broke the rules, but God fixed it, so that you can repent and start a new life. He paid the penalty on the Calvary. Remarkable love for the rebels that hate Him to give a free chance. Hardly an hypocrite gives His own life for His enemies.
PS. It wasn't an apple, but even if would have been, how foolish was it to choose an apple over paradise that has no death, no suffering nor want? Yes, people are still fools and choose foolish things over the righteousness, goodness and virtues.
