i am having trouble with this mod, its not showing up at all ingame. someone i talked to who mods said it could be because the mod doesnt have a .dds file for the texture.
The way I made this mod, it doesn't replace or add any .dds files. All I did was direct the model to a different file path so it could utilize a different existing texture. In this case, another color underarmor simply sitting unused in the game files.
When you say it doesn't show up, do you mean that it still shows the original orange underarmor, or does it show you some kind of error/purple mess? Which version did you install? Did you use baka to install it? If you used the .ba2 file, are you sure you added the .ba2 to your Fallout76Custom.ini? Let me know and I'll try and help you troubleshoot.
i installed the olive .ba2 version with the mod manager yeah it stills shows the original orange version. i was suppose to test not using the mod manager and just putting it in the data folder and custom ini but never got around to it so i will test in the morning to see if that works if it doesnt ill use the baka version. ill let you know how it goes when i wake up
Would you be willing to replace the current BoS Fatigues (they're called the BoS Scribe Outfit in-game) with the special Red/White variant worn by Knight Captain Cade in F4?
Do you mean the outfit he is wearing here?: https://www.google.com/search?q=fallout+4+knight+captain+cade&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS833US833&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjU7_ngmKfjAhUTbs0KHeRQCdkQ_AUIEigD&biw=1920&bih=937#imgrc=f7g4Yq0vqCRD0M:
How comfortable would you feel about using FO4 mesh replacements with different material entries instead of swapping the actually textures? It would play better with future texture mods for the BoS Underarmor and Bomber Jacket (aka KnightLancer).
Honestly, I have virtually zero experience with making mods, so I'm not entirely sure what you're saying. Please forgive me for asking some likely stupid questions. From what I can tell, a mesh is essentially a 3D model, correct? The point you are making is that instead of simply replacing the original orange suit texture entirely, I use a mesh that is configured to simply utilize the black suit texture instead of replacing it entirely.
Does that sound about right? If not PLEASE correct me, like I said, I'm new at this, but I am eager to learn!
That's correct. In a program like Nifskope or Outfit Studio (it comes with BodySlide install), you can "tell" a mesh to "look" for a different material file. Material files hold important data like lighting and shading information for the object and they also list the filepath for the textures that the object "wants". On my Proto Vault Suit (the FO76 mod) description page, I give some easy to follow instructions on how to do the swap, providing you have and know how to use the programs. At some point, all of us mod authors will eventually learn to use these programs.
ADDED: in your case you would find the meshes\armor\knightlancer\foutfit.nif and select the underarmor portion of the mesh and following my instruction on the Proto page, you would change materials\armor\knightunderarmor\knightbody.bgsm to materials\armor\knightunderarmor\knightbodyBlack.bgsm for the black undersuit, for example.
Thanks a ton for the info! I went ahead and modified the mesh files as you said. Just gotta test them out and then I'll post them here!
Out of curiosity (mostly since it's been driving me absolutely mental), do you happen to know why Maxson's Coat and the Minutemen General outfit both have gloves, yet don't appear to have either mesh files or textures corresponding to them? The Knight Underarmor has gloves, and a .nif and a .dds files corresponding to JUST the gloves. In short, I've been trying to find a way to add the gloves back to the outfit in 76, but I've been going nuts hunting down files. Those two outfits are the only two I've come across so far that don't have the glove files stored in the same folder and I can't figure out why that is or where the files are.
You could always import the gloves and the outfit at the same time into Outfit Studio. Then export both pieces as 1 mesh to the name of the outfit. Now you have an outfit with gloves. I will take a look at the FO76 archives to see where the glove files might be, if any exist.
Thanks for the tip! I actually think I found the gloves Maxson used. I couldn’t find them originally because they’re located under meshes for residents! Currently working on combining the meshes.
So I've combined and exported the meshes and it looks good, except when I equip brass knuckles in first person. There is some major clipping that I can't seem to get rid of. It isn't present in 3rd person either. Any idea if there is a custom mesh for when I character makes a fist?
Well, apparently if an outfit has physics (such as the tail of the battlecoat), it can't currently be properly imported into 76 the way that I am doing it. Shame. Regardless, thank you very much for the info! I really appreciated all the help!
Truth be told I didn’t even consider the battlecoat. Doesn’t the coat use the black officer underarmor? I can definitely look into swapping it for the orange or green underarmor if those are your preference. Shouldn’t be too hard.

If so, then yes!
