A fix for MXAO ghosting/shadow penetration has been created by shijian452. Please update to the newest version of the mod and read the updated description to incorporate it.
Edit: they’ve just provided a slightly easier way. I’ll update the directions when I get some time, but the current directions still work. You can also just follow their GI mask instructions instead, making sure to copy the files to the correct areas (as outlined in my instructions).
How can I increase brightness? This mod looks really nice but it's too dark for me. I don't want to increase my monitor brightness, only in-game, whether with ReShade settings or editing a file because there's no slider setting by default.
Hi, does the latest fix address the issue with MXAO drawing a sharp contour around objects with a fake alpha blended "flare/glow", such as the metallic street lights?
Hi - I’m not quite sure what you’re referring to, could you either message me with a picture of the issue or upload it to the user files section of the mod?
You're also welcome to tinker with the MXAO and bloom parameters in ReShade to see if you can fix it - I’ll happily credit you if you’re able to find a way!
My plan for next steps is to play around with a combination of the Fallout76Custom.ini file to see if I can get better results - you might have some luck in there as well.
i figured it out, in the mxao section go down to preprocessor definitions and in the mxao smooth section its default at 0, set it to 1 or 2 and it removes the sharp edges you are referring to
I had the same issue, I tried the suggested fix posted by Delfinition and got some strange black bars on the screen as a result. Reverting the setting to 0 removes the banding effect. See linked screenshots for an example.
Any idea why I get some black flashing bits in the sky when I use this? I love the reshade but it makes it so hard to use when every time i look in a certain direction im getting weird black lines flashing
had issue in-game with the shadows , so i tried the fix and now, the game doesn't launch at all. I try a files verification with steam but steam didn't find any issue. I have the error 0xc0000142.
When i launch the tools, at first windows stopped the application, arguing about security issue. You add the fact it's an chinese app not really translated, and now my game doesn't launching ? I don't like that.
Reshade Addon failed. I have a special dxgi.dll for sfse. Reshade said this file it wasn't it's dxgi and failed install. Now what? Edit: I just made a backup of SFE dxgi and reinstalled reshade. It works. ..... very dark. NPCs are in heavy shadows. Notes Papers can barely be read. Very dark as well.
Hello, so I'm having an issue. The Xbox Gamepass version of the game works fine with this reshade preset but the Steam version has a major bug with MAXO. It basically deletes fog and makes everything super dark while that effect is on. I can't seem to fix it, even taking the files from the Xbox version and pasting them into the Steam version doesn't seem to work.

Hi, I do not have the Steam version so I'm unable to advise. I'll move this to the bugs section in hopes someone else can help! Are you sure it's MXAO - it goes away when MXAO is disabled alone in ReShade?
So I fixed it, I ended up just copying all the files and replacing everything from the Game Pass to Steam. It now just works like normal. I'm wondering if maybe Reshade didn't install right. If anyone else runs into this issue I'd say to just do that and sorry if that doesn't fix it.
This issue can be fixed on the Steam version by going to ReShade > Home > Edit global preprocessor definitions > RESHADE_DEPTH_INPUT_IS_REVERSED and change it from 1 to 0.
I have an issue i have a big oval shape covering the middle of my screen while in power armor, i tries using the GI mask fix, but it does not help, i made sure i have the correct effect loading order and mxao is in the middle of before and after.
I haven't run into this issue and am unsure on how to fix it, so I'll move this comment to the 'bugs' page and see if others are able to find a fix at some point.
you can turn off the Power Armor hud in the settings to give you the Non-PA hud OR try installing the Power Armor HoloHud mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout76/mods/257). I suspect it might be the vignette in the power armor having it's transparency messed with making the oval much more opaque but that's just a guess. It might or it might not solve it.
Dark enough to often require flashlights, but not pitch black. I find them to be realistically dark for moonlit nights. But this all depends on the contrast and gamma of your screen, so I'd welcome you to tinker with the contrast settings a bit to find what works for you.
I love this addon, the shades are amazing. I tried to do the ghosting fix but there is no option for ultra wide at 2560x1080 for the monitor I'm using. Afraid to do a different resolution and jack up my game. Any recommendations or should I just deal with the ghosting?
You may want to ask this in the fix's mod page, try running at a different resolution with the corresponding mask, or you can make a UI_Detect mask for yourself. The process involves the "UI_Detect" ReShade module, and basically consists of screenshotting each of the UI pages, selecting pixel colors and locations specific to those UI areas, and putting those into the config file for UI_Detect. When UI_Detect senses those pixel colors in those areas, it disables the corresponding effects. Hence why different masks and settings are required for different resolutions. Full instructions can be found here (and in UI_Detect's config file).
If you go through the process and get it working let me know! We can upload your fix and credit you.
I was able to fix this by blocking shadow penetration on ability cards and maps by detecting the unique coordinates and pixel colors of the specific screen in the reshade, and automatically turning off filters with GI when you switch to the map and ability screens.
The method is to use the UI_Delete filter. The three pages of the map, ability card, and season have some UI elements with fixed positions and unchanged colors. By customizing different detection coordinates for different resolutions, you can block the shadow penetration of these three interfaces. I uploaded the mod, but it seems to be under review.

If I fix it I'll reply to the bug.
